To have driven to MILs in my dressing gown?

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 03/05/2024 22:00

I didn't even leave the car. I drove 10 minutes up the road to MILs house to deliver some Piriton to DD, she came out to meet me and grab it, and I drove 10 minutes home. I didn't want to change into a hoodie just for a quick drive (I had other clothes on, not JUST my dressing gown) DH said a dressing gown is "Not appropriate clothing for driving in" and that it was stupid because "It's all baggy" it's no baggier than a maxi dress or my favourite jump suit that has really flappy/baggy legs that I drive in a lot Confused

Was I unreasonable or he is just weird?

I’d have sent your DH if he was that bothered about your dressing gown!

Sillyjane · 03/05/2024 22:03

Personally I’d not, it’s not rally much effort to,put a hoodie on.

razorbladethroat · 03/05/2024 22:03

If I'm in my jammies there's no way I'd be getting dressed for a trip like that!

Missgemini · 03/05/2024 22:03

I guess it depends on what’s acceptable to you. I wouldn’t even walk to the end of my driveway in my dressing gown, so for me, it’s a no. But it’s your life. Who cares.

FunnysInLaJardin · 03/05/2024 22:03

I could but wouldn't. Takes 2 minutes to put some jeans and a top on

He'd been drinking otherwise he would've gone

It’s indoor-only clothes, imo. I would have put the hoodie on.

God no. I drove to a drive thru once in my pyjamas, under my coat. Wgen it was all the rage to wear pjs out.

I spent the whole time worrying I was going to break down and have to get out the car like it.

I don't know how people do it.

Sparklfairy · 03/05/2024 22:06

Its fine. People don't take as much notice of us as we think they do, and the judgy ones have self esteem issues and should be pitied

bluetopazlove · 03/05/2024 22:07

He hasn't been a parent long enough (yet)

TadpolesInPool · 03/05/2024 22:07

I read PP as saying takes 2 minutes to put some jeans and a TOP HAT on 🤦‍♀️ I need to get out more...

pizzaHeart · 03/05/2024 22:08

I wouldn’t but I wouldn’t drive in a maxi dress either.

Pigeonqueen · 03/05/2024 22:09

I’ve driven dh to work a few times wearing my Pjs and dressing gown with a massive coat over the top 🙈🤣 it was super early in the morning and there was no way I was going to rush about to get ready just to drive there and back (when I got home I could have a shower and get myself ready in my own time). It did occur to me how awkward it would be if I had an issue with the car etc but oh well…! (Dh can’t drive due to medical reasons).

StealthIguana · 03/05/2024 22:09

Anyone who noticed or cared is in need of more excitement in their lives! It's fine, you weren't even getting out the car to go into her house (even if you had, still wouldn't see the problem).

I have seen my neighbour, more than once, take the bins in wearing pyjamas. Can confirm I didn't faint in horror or give it a second thought.

eatsleepfarmrepeat · 03/05/2024 22:10

I just wouldn’t leave the house without getting dressed so for me it would be a hard no, but your husband is BU by taking issue with what you choose to wear.

fungipie · 03/05/2024 22:10

I wouldn't- but it's up to you.

SoreFeets · 03/05/2024 22:12

I’ve gone to pick DH up from a night out wearing my pyjamas and a hoody before but that was almost midnight. I wouldn’t do it during the day

lmao88 · 03/05/2024 22:13

I wouldn't, in case of a car breakdown, traffic, accident or worse...

CJ0374 · 03/05/2024 22:14

I had other clothes on, not JUST my dressing gown

What other clothes OP??? Do you mean pyjamas or day clothes? If so- why have a dressing gown on top?

No- I wouldn't do this. For the 20 secs it takes to put a jumper/day clothes on. I'd likely be caught creeping to my car by a neighbour or the postman wanting a chat, I'd might need petrol and have to get out the car, get a call part way through the journey and need to go elsewhere and mainly because I don't walk out the front door in night clothes.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 03/05/2024 22:14

ehat Do you mean by other clothes? I only put my dressing gown on over pyjamas and wouldn’t leave the house in it. Surely putting a coat of or hoody wouldn’t have taken long.
if I saw you out and about in a dressing gown I would probably assume you will ill.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 03/05/2024 22:16

I also agree with your husband about the baginess. The arms of mine are very baggy so could get caught in something in the car, I don’t think it would actually be safe to drive in it (leaving aside that going outside in it is weird)

siriusblackcat · 03/05/2024 22:16

I often go to pick DH up from the pub and drive there in my pyjamas. Not getting dressed at 11 o'clock at night, it's dark and no one sees me. Don't actually care if they do though.

I often drive my husband to the train station in the morning dressed in my oodie - over leggings or joggers - I don’t get out the car, so it’s not an issue.
