Court summons for a parking ticket - but I don't have the logbook for the car

I bought a second hand car in Jan. Sent the new keeper slip off on the way home and thought no more of it. Despite me writing to the DVLA multiple times, spending hours on the phone with them and even paying the £25 for a replacement log book, I still don't have it and as far as I can tell the car isn't in my name despite the DVLA insisting the log book has been sent out and it is!

Overstayed slightly (literally 12 mins!) in a car park in Feb - because I had an accident in store - and the previous owner is getting hounded by the parking company. She's just messaged me and said she now has a court summons for the parking ticket.

I have no idea what else to do. I feel like no one at the dvla is understanding the problem and to be honest I'm fucking scared stiff by the idea of a court summons. Never been in trouble in my life!

Will ring the DVLA again on Tue and will write to them again but what else can I do? I don't have any of the parking ticket details!

Hang on you're scrapping the car over this? Um. Why?

Not because of this - I had a pre mot done yesterday and it needs loads of work. It's an 18 year old car so not unexpected, but also not worth throwing loads of money at!

She needs to prove she wasn't driving the car. Then you will get a ticket which you need to pay. But there's literally a section for that on the original ticket. You shouldn't have to deal with this now as it's not your fault she's let it go on so long

It's a private company car park. Will contact the shop and see if they can do anything!

Yes, do this. If you overstayed because you had an accident in store, the shop is likely to willingly cancel the ticket.

If they don't and it's a chain, the next step would be to contact customer services at head office.

Last thing they want is your sad face in the tabloids telling the world how unsympathetic they were over the issue. Especially if the accident was their fault, eg if you tripped over something in the shop.

No reason - it came back unopened!

(I'm assuming it reached them but maybe it didn't? Not really sure what happened, just that I came home and the envelope was in my post box 😬)

In that case I would’ve suggested sending one again, but given your update there’s not much point.

It might not actually be that easy for her to prove that she wasn’t in the shop and as the RK it’s up to her to deal with it.

I would send it off again but I have come to hate the damn thing and just want rid now. And spending (wasting?!) £25 on a car I'm selling for £200 when the scrap man isnt bothered just seems daft tbh!

You do realise that if she names you as the driver, you selling the car on won't make any difference?
It will still be your parking invoice?

I do.

I'm not saying it won't, but I also don't want to keep paying tax and insurance on a old car with a failed MOT.

Also every time I look at it, I get annoyed with how everything has gone and how long she's been lying to me!
