Trying to lose some weight… been trying to be good but not sure and never know how to count calories etc.

Today I had:

breakfast/lunch:

  • 2 oat coffees in the morning
  • Greek yogurt with walnuts and honey
  • an apple and about 5-6 strawberries
  • 1 cereal bar 78kcal one

dinner:

  • 1 glass of rose
  • goat cheese about a third so ~50g
  • mixed leaf salad
  • 4-6 plum tomatoes
  • walnuts
  • dressing (bit of drizzle)
pudding:
  • 1x strawberry Actimel
  • 30-35g dark chocolate

any thoughts? TIA

It’s not enough food. It’s counter productive to starve yourself- you’ll slow down your metabolism and it will affect your hormones.

Breakfast looks ok but I’d switch out the cereal bar and up the nuts/seeds in the Greek yoghurt.

You need more protein and carbs at lunch and dinner (where is dinner?).

That would feed me for at least a week but I'd add a massive salad to it.

and a mumsnet chicken

RedRobyn2021 · 02/05/2024 13:04

That is definitely not enough food IMO maybe for one day but not every day

I did slimming world a few years ago and it worked well for me, but now I know more about UPF I don't agree with everything they push being "low fat"

RedRobyn2021 · 02/05/2024 13:05

Agree about the cereal bar. They're not good for you. Like previous poster said, nuts and seeds would be good

KreedKafer · 02/05/2024 13:12

It's not a huge quantity of food by volume but it's mostly foods that are pretty calorie-dense, like nuts, honey, cheese, Greek yogurt, chocolate, wine, etc. You're basically just picking at things that are high in calories and won't fill you up. You're basically living on dairy, sugar and a few nuts.

You need to eat proper meals. Protein, wholegrain carbs, lots of veg. Fish and lean meat if you eat those things. Eggs, pulses, tofu etc if you don't.

She doesn’t need weight to fall off though.

But she wants it to. 🤷‍♀️

It's not a lot of actual food but the calories could be high for that amount and it might not better swapping stuff around.

Whilst some things aren't the best (like the wine) we are human and we want to be able to have something we like, life would be miserable if we lived only on stuff that was good for us. Just be mindul that you don't overdo it (too often, sometimes we need a good eating/drinking session!)

I find it easier to follow a calorie tracker and stick to x amount of calories. I've noticed that if I have eggs for breakfast I get hungry later and I'm less likely to reach for a biscuit. If I have porridge I factor in that I'll be hungry and have a mid morning snack.

I struggle to run without eating but I can lift weights without having breakfast and if I eat later in the morning I can get away with 2 meals vs 3.

I get that you are a healthy weight but could do with losing a tiny bit more and still be healthy. It's also worth noting that exercise can really shape your body too so you can look smaller but still be the same weight or even heavier.

Just be careful not to eat too little or lose too much because neither will be good for you long term.

I also recommended using MyFitnessPal or another app to count calories

I would lose weight if I ate your diet Grin

unsync · 02/05/2024 16:12

MyNetDiary app is really good for food logging. If you input your stats it will tell you how much you should be eating to gain, maintain or lose.

It sounds sweet, light and sad tbh.

I'm a healthy weight and I eat a lot more dense food. A salad for me is avocado, olives, grain, tomatoes, cucumber, hummus, cheese, peppers, something hot like butternut squash, seeds on top, something leafy (the mumsnet massive salad), butter beans.

I do skip breakfast or lunch but the other two meals are dense, like a yoghurt, oats, flax and chia, almonds etc or a sweet jacket potato and beans.

Food is nourishment, it should make you happy. You don't sound happy, you sound sad 😔

Thanks all. I’m not quite sure what I am doing but I haven’t been feeling great in my skin and stepped on the scale this morning.

I’m 5’7 and nearly 10 stone. Ideally I’d like to lose a stone to go back to my slimmer self.

i know I’m not fat or overweight but I had some issues with my weight as a teen and scared that it might happen again.

Not to drip feed but I have been living on my own for 6 months. Before that o was in a relationship and cooking healthy food for 2 is so much easier than when you live on your own - at least that’s what it feels like.

I think you need to batch cook meals for the week because your on your own, even if its just dinners. I am struggling as well with losing a couple of stones (menopause) I don't do calorie counting or weigh myself ( I don't think it's healthy for mh). Porridge and fruit for breakfast, lunch- salad baked potato dinner chilli, lots of water in between and get up every hour and run up and down the stairs. I am guilty of getting in from work and just sitting watching TV but am trying to move more.
Good luck x
