To hate unrealisic Vinted sellers?

Ok hate is a strong word but still

I am quite active on Vinted, with a toddler I am used to buying and selling a lot of items fairly frequently, I always price to sell, usually pitching items £1 or so less than the cheapest other listing of the same or similar item, I’ve never had an item listed for more than 48 hours.

Now DD is getting older and her size isn’t changing as much I’m now looking at nicer items to buy on the platform, and I’m just so surprised about how unrealistic some sellers are.

Example, I had a Ralph Lauren summer dress favourited for a while, it’s been listed for 17 months, I offered £3 less than asking and it’s been rejected. I am always tempted to message them asking if they understand the concept of an item only being worth what someone is willing to pay. Imagine having an item for sale for nearly a year and a half and not thinking to yourself ‘maybe it’s priced too high’

Then you have the people charging more than the item is even selling for new! And it’s not an antique or rare item, a pair of leggings etc.

Same. I think some have a bee in their bonnets about never accepting offers. Which is ridiculous. I’ve been watching some boots for almost a year. They are never going to sell but the person won’t accept any offers on them. I just keep winding the seller up by offering lower and lower every few months

Yes! I’ve done the same with a pair of kids shoes, they’re on for more than the shoes are new atm and they just will not budge - so I just wind them up a bit every few months.

It’s baffling how thick some people can be

I haven’t used Vinted but I regularly make offers on eBay and most of the sellers now decline without saying why and don’t send a counter offer, or let the offer expire over 48 hours. Maybe these people don’t really want to get the item sold at all?

I sell and I’m happy to be flexible with people to make the sale.

Elphame · 01/05/2024 10:41

I can't get wound up about it.

I've had a few offers on my items on Vinted and a load of abuse from one when I declined her £30 offer on a £50 item. She came back 30 mins later to say she'd have it at full price but in those 30 mins it had sold at full price.

To say she was not pleased is a bit of an understatement.

Akamai · 01/05/2024 10:47

YABU. I hate that eBay and Vinted buyers are becoming so entitled. She doesn't have to sell at a price YOU want.

I had some Spanx leggings for sale, new without tags. I put them for sale on both Vinted and eBay and on Vinted I got offers for £20 and then a couple of months later someone offered £65 on eBay, which I accepted.

Why should I sell for less to please a buyer?!

I suppose what the OP is referring to is that these people aren’t selling their items.

When something has been listed for so many months it’s clearly over priced.

I had it recently, an Anne geddes toy, on eBay most were going for £9-£12, on Vinted someone was selling for £22. The exact same toy, same year, same condition. I prefer using my Vinted balance for purchases so made an offer on there and it was rejected, even though it had been for sale for nearly 2 years!

I don’t hate these people, as I think that’s a bit much but I do think they’re a bit silly/unintelligent

Treaclescourer · 01/05/2024 10:50

YANBU op, I do think hate it a bit ott but I see where your frustration is coming from.

Its like you want to give them the MN ‘head wobble’ as it’s just a bit silly

Mcvitieschoccybiscuit · 01/05/2024 10:55

it works both ways. I was once selling a bundle of about 6 T-shirts all immaculate some still even had tags (£12/ £15 ish mark) but my DD had grown out of them. I only put them on for £4 to get rid of them quickly and within 1hr someone offered me £3. Id not seen it because I was back at work at that point. An hour later she sent me a snotty message saying she was worried about buying from me because I’d not responded and I couldn’t be trusted to post them???

Another sent me a message about some shoes (something like are they are a generous fit). In the time it took me to reply someone else had bought them and she sent me a message saying how her daughter was devastated and it was my fault for not responding to her???

NotSmallButFunSize · 01/05/2024 11:00

Agree - also something specific annoying me currently is I have offered on some joggers and followed up with a message and the seller has vanished off the face of the earth. Take your items off then if you can't even be bothered to look at your notifications! Do you want to sell them or not?!

Bramblecrumble22 · 01/05/2024 11:04

It's a lot of effort to pack and post items for a small amount of money. I think people want to hold onto items too, and have a sentimental value they are willing to sell for, a bit of a horder.

Precipice · 01/05/2024 11:05

Do you understand that the seller also has a price at which they're willing to sell? Beneath a certain price, they're not selling the item, because it won't be worth it to them to print off the label, package it up and take it to post.

Not everyone's in a rush. After I've listed something, it costs me nothing to keep it listed for ages. I don't have masses and masses of things to declutter, so I'm not concerned about the space.

Vastlyoverrated · 01/05/2024 11:05

I find the same on Gumtree, though. There's lots of sellers who bought something like a sofa two years ago, it probably is immaculate, but it's not worth half of the original price, is it, because no-one wants to pay that for someone else's two year old sofa! They just relist and relist. I don't even offer on them because they are always insulted by your low offer, even though no-one is buying their item! The whole concept of 'priced to sell' is an interesting one! I am guilty of it sometimes...

MotherWol · 01/05/2024 11:24

I've sold a few things through Vinted recently; I tend to list at a price that is fair and realistic, in line with similar items. I'll give things a week at full price before considering offers; if I see that an item has been favourited by a high number of people I won't respond to offers because I'm confident that it'll sell at the asking price. I'm not out to make a fortune, but I'm not going to faff about posting stuff for a quid.

If you like something, and you can see it's already on 20+ people's favourite list, don't waste time making an offer, just buy it before someone else does. Same goes for if it's only just been added - the chances are that someone will buy it at asking price and you'll miss out.

ABirdsEyeView · 01/05/2024 13:18

A seller might prefer to keep something or even give it away to charity, than feel they are having the piss taken by a cheeky offer. No one is obliged to sell their stuff at a price they don't consider fair or reasonable.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 01/05/2024 13:22

It works both ways imo - sometimes I price something fairly and then receive a raft of silly offers for it.

It’s a marketplace, people can attempt to buy and sell at whatever price point they see fit.

OdeToBarney · 01/05/2024 13:23

It goes both ways. I'm not selling something that was originally priced reasonably, taking into account RRP, how much it's been used, and listed with a selling price of other similar items, for much less than I've listed it for. Equally, I'm not buying your kid's second hand shoes listed in very good condition but are actually scuffed to fuck and listed for more than clarks currently have them on sale for....

Deludamol · 01/05/2024 13:23

Yeah I had one just recently. The item is priced at £60. It's something not many people would be able to find a use for because it's specific to go with something pretty rare. It's been listed for about six months without selling.

I'm on a low income so I asked the seller if they'd be willing to let it go any cheaper. They offered me £1 off! I could lose a pound coin and not notice! I just wished them good luck with it.

booktokbear · 01/05/2024 13:33

Most of my items are low priced, say £3, to accept offers just isn't worth the effort. I'd rather give it to charity.

WhereIsMyLight · 01/05/2024 13:33

With some stuff, particularly the clothes that I particularly loved my DC wearing, then I price slightly higher. I’m not in a hurry to sell them. I still price fairly, I think the highest price I’ve ever listed an item was £5 (love 2 dream sleepbags which sold within about 2 hours). Usually people also agree those outfits are cute and pay the slightly higher price. If they’ve been on for a while, I’ll consider dropping the price.

When we moved everything was priced to sell and sell quickly. Where I was storing listed items was in the way. Now, listed item aren’t in the way, they’re in the wardrobe in the spare room. Very much out of sight, out of mind. I have some items that are £2-3 at the moment that have been on about 6 weeks but I’m not in a hurry to sell them. I’ve got some more bits to add soon so that’ll attract some new viewers and maybe they’ll get bundles. I have good discounts on my bundles and I am open to sensible offers. The items aren’t bothering me and I’d rather my total sale equal a couple of pounds, as it makes it more worth it to me at the minute.

This.

In my experience, things tend to end up finding the right buyer eventually. I've had items listed for a year or more, that ended up selling for the full asking price. Not everyone is in a hurry to sell.

BusyMintCrab · 01/05/2024 13:37

Sorry but as a seller I get annoyed when people offer a few £ under the listed price. Just pay the £3! 🤣

OhmygodDont · 01/05/2024 13:38

I’ve found a few things on both vinted and eBay priced higher than I can buy them brand new which is mind boggling. Ds love a particular brand 🙄 so I’ve been searching for deals regularly and I purchased a hoody £56 brand spanking new. EBay £88 vinted £95 😂

Must say I did have an offer accepted on vinted tho offered £17 on a £20 top.

What I hate is when people send an offer you accept and then they don’t buy it like wtf

I just did that. But by offering £3 less is basically covered the postage and buyer protection fee 🤷🏻‍♀️

Agreed.

I do have a tub sat in a cupboard that just has my vinted listings in it. It’s not in my way I actually forget about it till I get a sale. Feels like passive income randomly these days
