Manchester Co Op Arena Standing Area Under 16's

DilysDilemna · 30/04/2024 23:10

We have bought tickets to see Olivia Rodrigo this coming Saturday at Manchester Co Op Arena. When we look at the small print it says that under 16's are not allowed in the standing area. DD is 13.

What the hell do we do? I know it's a new venue so there might not be many people with experience of this problem but ... argh.

I would have thought most of her fan base was under 16?

OP posts:

over & out for me on this site...it's changed from when I started reading 4 years ago, kind & helpful advice to just nasty now....

Pot meet kettle. OP was concerned and asked a question and you posted a diatribe about her parenting.

@DilysDilemna hope you can get refunded! Sorry your daughter is missing out but maybe you can get seated tickets for a rescheduled show. Olivia Rodrigo music is too young for me but she’s very talented and I know some people see her as a good role model for young women.

I’m getting twitchy about my Killers tickets for June.

Glad it's not just me! Surely whatever it is will be sorted in the next 7 weeks

I’ve got Eagles tickets in 4 weeks, am hoping they’ll have it sorted by then.😡

They aren't going to ask to see her passport so if she can pass for 16 you might have to say she's 16 and be ready argue it out if you need to.

I can understand why they would do this. Standing at concerts can be scary.

I’ve had to produce passports for mine for proof before and I’ve seen people in tears turned away.

ALovelyCupOfNameChange · 01/05/2024 22:10

Ops just seen the update.

i hope your dd is not too disappointed

mitogoshi · 01/05/2024 22:14

It's pretty standard for standing to be restricted. I know it is for Taylor Swift too. If you look at venue rules in the future it should state things like this

I'm genuinely curious about what you considered either kind or helpful about your previous post, and how you considered it to be advice?

It was just judgemental and nasty from my reading of it.

But I'm sure mn will limp along without you 🤷

whynotwhatknot · 01/05/2024 22:51

cant belive they let people turn up tonigt then cancel it just a comeplte fuck up

Seriously,OP, I'd be double checking those tickets if I were you. I've seen 3 different sets of Take That fans mention in forums that they were turned away from the O2 over the weekend because their tickets bought on Viagogo are fake.
Fingers crossed the show goes ahead but its looking very doubtful.

Take That themselves have put out message now saying that their only resell site is Twickets (I think) presumably because of the Viagogo issues

Absolutely gobsmacked you would think this is an appropriate concert for your 13 year old daughter & her friend who isn't even 13 🙄

Some of her lyrics on her songs are beyond what they should be listening to....

Just my opinion...but it feels like everything goes right now to please our kids 😟

How old are your children? I agree with you about the lyrics but try telling a 13 yo not to like a musician.

MojoJojo71 · 01/05/2024 21:01

Oh shit! DD has been looking forward to this since Christmas 😭

Not seeing the joke. What a delight you are.

whiteboardking · 01/05/2024 23:18

MEN arena I'm sure doesn't allow under 16 standing either. It's pretty standard. Much higher risk of them overheating, getting crushed etc
I used to work in venue mgt.
I think the new arena traffic is going to be horrendous. Bad enough already. Obv significant venue safety issues too hence gig cancellations

I’m confused, MojoJojo71 isn’t laughing. The emoji is a crying emoji, not a laughing one (unless I’ve missed something else 🤔).

Youarenotseriouspeople · 01/05/2024 23:30

Manchester AO arena is 14 and over for standing. Same when i took my DD to the Etihad to see Coldplay last year. Moot point now the gigs are not going ahead tho. What a shambles.

Trainersocksandbootsarenotagoodcombo · 01/05/2024 23:34

@HeartandSeoul thank you for pointing that out and @MojoJojo71 apologies. Clearly I need better specs.

So fed up. What a shit show.

Trainersocksandbootsarenotagoodcombo · 01/05/2024 23:36

Not looking forward to telling DD tomorrow. She loves Olivia Rodrigo. Why oh why did I book Manchester instead of any of the other venues. Mainly because it was a Saturday over a bank holiday weekend.

Trainersocksandbootsarenotagoodcombo · 01/05/2024 23:42

Also everyone apologies last night I was using DH's desktop because we were discussing best course of action for Saturday. I'm now using my own log in/laptop hence the change of name. It's Confusing.

FixTheBone · 02/05/2024 19:32

Given the reason its been cancelled, probably for the best, if falling metal had killed a teenager, or anyone else on the opening night it would have been awful.

Real question is why they only planned 3 days from the test even to the opening act, and why they absolutely rammed the schedule from the very start.

Ive missed Black Keys, my daughter is missing rodrigo, im not at all confident on it being open for the rescheduled black keys gig on 15th may, or weezer in june, which is when im hearing the earliest opening date is likely to be.

Pedallleur · 02/05/2024 20:03

It's postponed atm. Viagogo are not good. Read the stories. Assume end of May for opening. Olivia may reschedule but at another arena nearby. A lot of money is involved and no one wants to be out of pocket. Act, promoters or fans

MuscariFan · 02/05/2024 20:12

Keane cancelled and Take That moving to AO Arena.

What a mess.

The Eagles have their own issues if you look at You Tube but I'm sure it will be enjoyable. Bear in mind Don Henley isn't singing.

whynotwhatknot · 01/05/2024 22:51

A piece of the air ventilation (I believe) fell just before the gig was about to start.

MojoJojo71 · 03/05/2024 09:11

Well as predicted DD was devastated. Coach and hotel non refundable so we are off for a couple of days in Manchester regardless. I’ve promised her a shopping trip to the Trafford centre so I’ve a feeling making up for missing Olivia is going to cost me 💰💰💰

Anything good on at the theatres?

MojoJojo71 · 03/05/2024 10:20

@ALovelyCupOfNameChange the wizard of Oz is on but we’ve already got tickets for our local theatre for that later in the year.
