……across all the boards. So annoying. It’s only 4 letters, why is it so hard? And breathe….

Oh dear. Is the gender issue the only fucking pressing concern in this country ?
Personally don’t give a damn how his name is spelled. Do care about the state of public services etc or is that of no importance. And do we really believe spineless little Rishi cares either ?

I before e, except after c?

The rule I taught my dd was 'I before E ... except when it isn't'

Well he could make it so much easier by just speaking truth and sense. Then there would be far fewer undecided women voters.

Misthios · 30/04/2024 18:30

Why do people do this? Is it because they get confused with "i before e except after c" thing? Even though they will be more than familiar with the given name Keith and never would think to spell it Kieth.

As far as I am aware the leader of the opposition, and a common Scottish family name, is Keir. Kier spelled the other way is a building company.

Misthios · 30/04/2024 18:32

I do get the argument that English people struggle with unfamiliar Scottish names. Burt come on. Keith isn't unusual and Keir is practically Keith, with a different ending.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 30/04/2024 18:34

Well the word Tier doesn’t help. same pronunciation?

To add a differing pov I'm quite cheered at the prospect of Mr K Starmer becoming PM.

As you were.

To be even more pedantic - it’s Sir not Mr …

Kieran?

Kieran is no good as a reminder. It's one of those names that people like to have variations of.

I have taught Kierans, Keiran, Kierens.... God knows but there seems to be a plethora of em.

You're correct of course but I hate the honours system and never use any of those titles. I'll never call anyone Sir.

PacoJazz · 30/04/2024 18:48

Kier

Ratfan24 · 30/04/2024 18:50

I could Kier less.

Kiera/Keira are both used too. I didn't mean as a reminder, just that Kie and Kei are both used to make the same sound in names. Keir can only be learnt by rote.

OhmygodDont · 30/04/2024 18:51

I can’t help but think of that building company everytime someone write kier anyway 😂

sir kier. Ooo building company got posh 😂

KnickerlessParsons · 30/04/2024 18:52

I can't spell his name. He can't explain what makes me a female woman so 🤷🏼‍♀️

Wow I find it strange that no one so far cares about misspelling his name! Interesting.

It's probably more that you're coming across as such a drama llama about it?

If misspelled names make you this stressed, the internet is really not for you.

Great post @Alfreddoeblin

The gender issue is focused on heavily here, because there's a swathe of not-so-secret Tories who identify with the Conservative party because it is the party of 'winners', people who have bought homes, and who have professional jobs. It's an identity thing rather than a policies thing.

They are of course completely fed up with Rishi, Boris, Liz and the merry go round of selfish PMs of late served up by the Tories....but they also can't reconcile themselves to do the political equivalent of hand in their Waitrose card and start browsing the aisles in Morrisons.

So they focus on anything, just anything, which allows them to justifiably reject Labour - on the basis that there always would be something, and they've found it.

Is it a hill we should die on, in order to keep the Tories in? To be discussed...

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 30/04/2024 18:57

Spot on, and let's not forget it's Liza with 'Z'.

Nope. I know lifelong Labour voters who don't know how to vote in the next election. I've always voted Labour or further left. I'm low income working class and I've leafleted for a socialist party in the past. If I do mark the Labour box it will be solely to get the Tories out this time.

KnickerlessParsons · 30/04/2024 19:23

Oh dear. Is the gender issue the only fucking pressing concern in this country

It's not the only issue pressing concern, but it's the only real point of difference between the two main parties for me.

There's a finite amount of money. Even Keir/Kier has said that if Labour win there won't be a lot they can do for the first few years in office.

I have no strong opinions about whether we spend the finite pot on the NHS, education, defence, benefits, the roads, whatever. We can only rob Peter to pay Paul anyway unless we all pay more taxes - either in income tax or by buying stuff.
So yes, a parties views on how to define a woman, whether trans women should be in women only spaces, compete against women in sport etc could well be the deciding factor when I choose who to vote for.

Gleepbleepable · 30/04/2024 19:28

redfacebigdisgrace · 30/04/2024 18:03

Well me obviously. 🙄 and given he’s likely to be the new PM it would be good to get his name right.

We only have his word that's his name, it could be anything.

redfacebigdisgrace · 30/04/2024 19:32
