To think I'm not autistic?

AIBU to think that if I was autistic it would've been noticed during the many years I was in therapy as a teen?

I think I'm autistic but doubting myself because how could so many professionals miss it?

Update; I'm diagnosed autistic 🤣

Congratulations! 💐

Great news OP Flowers

Research suggests that women tend to get diagnosed with personality disorders rather than autism (as per PPs). The diagnostic criteria are almost indistinguishable.

Hope it helps you @meadowhouse , both in terms of understanding yourself and in advocating for what you need (from another late diagnosed autistic person, two years on from diagnosis!)

I spent 30 years being put on every single anti depressant possible, and only when my doctor said there was nothing else to try ,did he start asking questions about my family.
When I said I had two children with a diagnosis of autism and ADHD ,he said well we will start there then .
3 years later I received a diagnosis of autism, and also told after the assessment I met the criteria for ADHD .
I was 50 when I was diagnosed

Update; I'm diagnosed autistic 🤣

How do you feel about it

My sister, in her 30s, is the one of the most obviously (high functioning) autistic people you could meet. It's noticeable as soon as you walk into a room and see her.

Throughout her teenage years and early 20s, no one ever suggested it. It just wasn't a common diagnosis until much more recently.

I was diagnosed with depression at 13. Medicated until mid 30’s, they never really worked so stopped taking them. Then spent the next 10 years or so being the same but taking meds on and off. 3 years ago I had a revelation (a daughter with audhd)
i can safely say I am not depressed, I just now understand myself for what it was that was affecting me.
All the signs were there, I saw multiple psychiatrists, drs, counsellors, not one of them spotted it and all the signs we now recognise as female presentation of asd were there shouting away!

Have you found a way to manage any low mood or anxiety related to ASD? Or is it just self acceptance and being kinder to yourself?

But that happens all the time? There are many undiagnosed adults, especially women.

Edit - spotted your update!🙂
