Sex sells

Shall we have someone tits out then by the bread counter?

I’m no pearl clutcher but as someone growing up in the 60s/70s this type of advertising annoys the f*ck out of me.

I’m not ‘cool’ enough to think it’s ok.

CurlewKate · 28/04/2024 17:36

@ButWhatAboutTheBees "Like we are womening wrong"

It's impossible to "woman wrong". It is possible not to know how hard it was to stop women being universally treated in advertising and the media in general as sex objects because it happened a long time ago. And how easy it would be to lose the progress we have made.

"Womening wrong" is a well used phrase on MN to mean "not following the expected narrative"

Men and women are sexualised to advertise things and have both for years.

There are A LOT worse things on ebay! You can buy lollipops which have been sucked (listings have appropriate photos), tights which have allegedly been worn by air stewardesses (with sexy photos), used/dirty underwear, and all sorts of other questionable things to satisfy the predilections of men. I used to report them occasionally, but I can't be bothered now.

If I was looking for a sucked lollipop or a used pair of knickers I'd be expecting to see a dodgy listing but not for a home safe to store valuables.

I grew up in the 70s so I've seen plenty of this shit; page 3, Pirelli calendars, the cardboard packaging for the nuts in the pub.

It's me buying it and not DH so if they want to sell it to women why isn't there a young fit bloke in a thong? Oh yeah..... I forgot..... misogyny.

I know. But I have never seen anyone saying "You're womaning wrong" I have only heard it used by women who are rejecting a feminist narrative, and are happy to sign up to a misogynist mindset, so feel that others have said it to them.

And yes, I also know that women and men, but usually women have been sexualised in advertising. That's no reason to perpetuate it, surely?

CalmConfident · 28/04/2024 18:11

I got roasted on here a few years ago for being exasperated with Halfords children’s bikes naming conventions. Told I was making a fuss….still bugs me 🤬

CantBelieveNaive · 28/04/2024 18:12

Clicked on seller feedback and sent this 🥴

To think the photo on this eBay listing is inappropriate?
walnutcoffee · 28/04/2024 18:32

Looks a bit like the sort of poster my son would have in his room when he was 16.
Tbh i take no notice of things online.

@MichaelatheMechanic So do you usually dislike the way foreign and eastern countries cultures and sales practices differ from your own. Do you generally dislike the chinese cultural norms ect, because that is quite a xenephobic display there.

You obviously spent long enough on that ebay listing to reaslise they were a chinese seller, listing like most eastern sellers do on auction and sales sites like Ali express, Yahoo auctions, Mercari, Rakuten Rakuma, ect. That is what global selling is like, so maybe rather than trying to enforce your xenphobic views and western values on to eastern countries and listing practrices you dont like, you should do like most other normal buyers do and scroll on by if you dont like it.

for me I see no issue in that listing. Its not for me to force my values upon them. That add is hurting no one its pretty common practice on most world wide sales sites.

Edited

Wow @orchiddottyback you don't get it at all. Using women's bodies to sell is not ok. It never really was but we put up with it as it was the "norm" but we are no longer in the 1970s and women are now valued as humans, not objects.
It has nothing to do with culture and everything to do with the view of women for the male gaze.
What year were you born and are you male? It's a strange POV for a woman's app.

It's a very effective ad.

And women are happily feeding these predelictions snd happily making money from it. Sadly sex sells

But how else would buyers know that women will want to shag them if they buy the super manly product

I don't want to shag manly men.

I want Daisy Duke's oversized spanner.
It will help with those men shk only think about shagging.

I agree OP, it is awful and so very sad that so many on here don't see it as a problem.

People pay for unwashed shreddies?

My laundry must be worth a fortune.

PlipPlopChoo · 28/04/2024 19:07

Cannot see the problem. Maybe bum jealousy.

Voodoohoodoyoudo · 28/04/2024 19:09

Because essentially most men are simple creatures and will probably buy it because of that picture. As an ex pole dancer I know how their little pea brains work 🤣

Polishedshoesalways · 28/04/2024 19:37

You can simply refuse to order from this company.

You can make a complaint to both eBay and the company

Polishedshoesalways · 28/04/2024 19:44

I find it disgusting and objectifying too op.

I'm not a prude. Just don't see what the gap betweeen Daisy Duke's legs has got to do with a safe box....

I used to work with a few men some of the discussions they used to have wouldn't be acceptable these days as I was 16 when I started there on a YTS placement. They used to call lady part's your box because you put things in it basically.
