If someone liked watching Eastenders most nights, would this put you off dating them?

OP posts:
MississippiAF · 27/04/2024 06:48

Oh no way, hard pass.

qwertyqwertyqwertyqwerty · 27/04/2024 06:52

What specifically is your issue?

Would you have the same issue with The Archers? I know loads of men who listen to that.

MrWarmth · 27/04/2024 06:54

How dare he, send that lad to the tower.

On a serious note, it's EastEnders. Pretty harmless and iconic British TV show. If he was watching Emmerdale, that would be a red flag. That would mean he's a wrongun who doesn't mind adverts.

Beezknees · 27/04/2024 07:02

If he just liked watching Eastenders? No of course not.

If everything we did had to revolve around Eastenders schedule and he didn't want to go out in case he missed it then yes.

NewMe2024 · 27/04/2024 07:10

I have a high intensity job and watch Made in Chelsea like a fiend. I agree that’s it’s because I want to switch my brain off / pretend there are no complex issues in the world for a while. I’d give it time before letting a new partner know about it though 😂

YourSnugHazelTraybake · 27/04/2024 07:15

I wouldn't. It ended up being a contributing factor in a previous relationship breakdown. Ex partner watched easterners and Corrie every time they were on, I can't stand soaps, and whilst I was happy to go off and do my own thing leaving him to watch, he'd then get pissed that we weren't having enough time together.

knitnerd90 · 27/04/2024 07:15

My husband watched Eastenders when we got married, though not religiously. Why? He spent years watching it with his gran who loved the soaps. It was nostalgia really. Didn't bother me a bit.

Amx · 27/04/2024 07:17

Yep. Instant ick.

W'bruvvas.

W'Mitchos.

So handsome!!! I miss watching EastEnders😭

Toooldtoworry · 27/04/2024 07:29

I 'watch' EastEnders and HollyOaks. I have a job that requires a lot of brain power, so both allow me to completely switch off. Although when I say 'watch' I usually mean its background noise whilst I flick through personal emails/etc.

SoozyWoozy5 · 27/04/2024 07:32

Yes, would put me off too, unfortunately

Peachy2005 · 27/04/2024 08:39

My DH has always watched it since before we met, usually on catch up at weekends. He used to watch Fair City too back then but thankfully gave that up - that was way worse! I still slag him off about it at times but generally don’t tell others he does, lest they judge him 😂

By osmosis I’ve picked up a fair bit over the 30 years by sometimes being in the same room. It really is foul, all the lies and cheating (and murder) and general scumminess. Everyone seems to end up sleeping with everyone at some point and the children all seem to grow up to be the lovers of the already full-grown adults. I do wonder if there are impressionable young people who would think it’s okay in real life to behave like this.

i think it’s a habit and a bit of escapism for some people and I wouldn’t let it put you off this person unless they show signs of thinking any of what goes on is ok in real life.

mydogisthebest · 27/04/2024 08:43

Well I would not date a man who watched that crap. Other soaps wouldn't really bother me but Eastenders is just so awful

CottonbudQueen · 27/04/2024 09:00

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 One is allowed a few guilty pleasures lol, but if he tried to work the show into any of our conversations, I'd leave the room.

mamahg · 27/04/2024 09:04

😂😂😂😂😂 when I met my partner I used to HATE soaps and would laugh whenever he watched Eastenders (the only soap he watches). We've been together 7 years now and I have now become obsessed with it too.

If you don't like to watch it then that's fair but if he likes it then why shouldn't he watch some harmless soap for 30 minutes 4x a week? 😅

cuckyplunt · 27/04/2024 06:21

As long as he doesn’t insist on watching on Christmas Day!

Whoah there , Christmas Day Eastenders in the Post Christmas Dinner slump on the sofa is a highlight .
No matter what has gone wrong on Christmas Day I loook forward to the fact the 'Stenders have had a worse day .
I know , I know Grief Vampire Blush

TOWIE would be my Bridge Too Far

Createausername1970 · 27/04/2024 09:06

I am not a soap watcher BUT I got caught up in the EE Christmas storyline and now watch it regularly at the moment. It will pass, and I will have my early evenings back.

But it wouldn't worry me as far as a prospective boyfriend goes. My DH loves Border force, Oak Island, Forged in Fire and I love a bloody good murder/thriller. So we put up with each other's preferences. Usually, the one who isn't as interested makes the tea and does the dishwasher.

Does he shout "Gerr Outta Mah Pub " before you leave ?

Definitely a red flag

Sent from my iphon

😁

LoveWine123 · 27/04/2024 09:14

I watch murder documentaries. My DH must be living in terror every day.

Topofthemountain · 27/04/2024 09:17

It could be worse he could watch YouTube videos of people washing cars and then make you watch the "really interesting bit"

Maybe punishment for me rearranging our first date 23 years ago so I could watch Eurovision.

Offredismysister · 27/04/2024 09:18

CountFucula · 27/04/2024 06:18

Does he like a cheese and pickle sandwich?

Basic 🤣

I watch them too, maybe in light of my previous post he should also be very afraid.

BobnLen · 27/04/2024 09:19

It's better than some of the drivel that Netflix churns out.
