For thinking Ring doorbell is rubbish?!

Has anyone else had this, I have a ring doorbell, something happened this morning that I need a record of but it's not on there, it's completely missing. The doorbell doesn't show me leaving only coming back. What's the point of it? I can't get a significant piece of information.

Someone in my local area had a laptop nicked from their car the other night, which their Ring completely failed to pick up on.

My first question was, why was your laptop on show in your car? But I understand that everyone makes careless mistakes sometimes.
Secondly, expecting a doorbell to pick up on everything is a fools errand. They are DOORBELLS. As my DH would say, don't get a Ring, as they just advertise that you've got stuff worth stealing. I'm inclined to agree with him.

It turns out that what MOST people REALLY want, when it comes to the crunch, is CCTV. In which case, get that.

It has other times of me leaving today on there just not this one an hour is missing

That would suggest that your wifi went down around that time? Can be caused by poor service provider or power-cuts (our electric keeps tripping so we lose broadband/wifi and then it takes ages for it to all recalibrate.) Ring is only as reliable as your wifi connectivity, unfortunately.

Ring doorbells are amazing, because they record all local crimes in minute detail so that you can pass footage to the police and have perpetrators arrested immediately. Only on Mumsnet.

Mine seems to miss things - nothing to do with MN and everything to do with how often it takes to recalibrate itself before it picks up the next event.

I live in a terrace and my neighbour using it to stalk and I'm getting photos of what we si called done ..delivery guy from 5 doors up stopped between our houses and I told a photo saying tell him to move ..I was working and no where near and not my delivery. I hate and I mean it hate ring doorbells. I wish the whole hate net work will stop. If anyone has a bright idea please. We going to move due to ring doorbell and the cat poo but that's another story.

We had friends who had similar issues with theirs so we had a cctv installed instead.

@Desperatelyneedabreak has this only started happening recently? Mine used to pick everything up but since I last charged it, suddenly it’s doing as you describe, picking up people coming in, but not going out or vice versa

YANBU OP, I have noted this with our Ring doorbell too. Sometimes it misses people coming in or out, or sometimes it misses someone coming down the drive.

Also, I find the record time ridiculously short.....let's say I've been recorded driving down my drive to park, it'll sometimes end there before I'm out of my car, other times it records me all the way I to the house having sat outside for a few minutes.

Sometimes it records a van coming on to the drive and that's it, even though someone then got out and came to the door and delivered something, it really bloody irritates me!

Unfortunately my husband bought it and the house alarm so we have to maintain the subscription till the alarm bit breaks!! Then I will Def be replacing with the Eufy that you can just pop an SD card into!

Ours catches most things but occasionally misses the odd thing. It’s your wifi signal not the door bell. We love ours.
