For thinking Ring doorbell is rubbish?!

Has anyone else had this, I have a ring doorbell, something happened this morning that I need a record of but it's not on there, it's completely missing. The doorbell doesn't show me leaving only coming back. What's the point of it? I can't get a significant piece of information.

It will depend on your settings as well - depending on how sensitively you have it set, it might not detect everything. Ours also only record for a short time - so if several things happen in quick succession, it doesn't keep recording, just shows the first 10 seconds or whatever.
I've also found that ours often misses DH when he comes home at night. No idea why - just have had times where I hear the door go, and no sign of him arriving home on the Ring!

Mine doesn't see my postman come to my door. I think its reflective jackets that affect it

Ooh, that might explain why DH can sneak past it (he cycles, so is in a reflective jacket..)

Ladyprehensile · 26/04/2024 13:59

I found mine so tedious and missing data etc, and I resented paying the stupid £ fee increase so I’ve removed it. Utter waste of money.

Youcannotbeseriousreally · 26/04/2024 14:02

We have an Arlo as part of our alarm system. Seems very good and reliable.

Fidgety31 · 26/04/2024 14:27

You should try increasing the motion sensitivity

CarInsurance · 26/04/2024 14:31

I didn't want to be paying monthly subscription so I got one of these and it works so well I have bought them for other family members. No subscription, clear footage that you can see from phone and record onto other devices, uses a memory card. Also has voice changer so whoever is there thinks you are a man (!) and you can communicate immediately with anyone outside. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B09H2T18WD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Isn’t it normal to have strangers knock on your door? I don’t understand what the issue is - presumably there’s no sign of any damage or break in, so how would any footage be useful?
It seems to me that ring doorbells create more insecurity rather than any useful function

Sweetheart7 · 26/04/2024 14:33

TinkerTiger · 26/04/2024 12:30

I've seen footage of people leaving their homes, perhaps it's an issue with yours?

This. OP have you set it up properly? RING have a very good helpline and they will take you through step by step.

I had a local man stalking me. He was caught on camera at my door for over an hour which finally made the police caution him.

Well there's no point waiting for a break in is there? You never know what would happen.... why does any where have cameras if that's the case? What a silly statement.

Settings issues. RING even detect the cars driving by on my road I had to turn the settings sensitivity down as it was going off constantly.

DistinguishedSocialCommentator · 26/04/2024 14:38

we have ring and Yale security sytems. What I have noted is that it depends on the quality of your internet connection
One of our kids and his family live in our road about 20 doors away and they get alerts within a second. Ours on the other hand is hit and miss. We've even installed a wireless amplifier but made no difference

We've also reset it a few times as well as the internet - no difference

It wasn't a break in I had a man turn up at my address from online claiming I did something to him that I haven't done and I don't know who he is never seen him before in my life.

Desperatelyneedabreak · 26/04/2024 14:55

To add before I left there was some banging around outside and I assumed it was the care taker but I think it may have been him but the footage isn't there

Someone turned up from online?

How close to the street is your doorbell. We dont have a drive so if someone walks past and then I leave v shortly afterwards it won't pick me up.

EnglishBluebell · 26/04/2024 15:03

Mine is amazing! But you do need to have the sensitivity right up if you need to rely on it as a security camera. Remember it is just a video door bell. Ring sell security cameras as well. They wouldn't if the doorbell was meant to double as a sufficient security camera

EnglishBluebell · 26/04/2024 15:06

Those of us who are disabled find the Ring doorbell life changing

Get a proper camera

I came out of my house and someone was parked outside he then drove towards me and claimed I had been "slagging him off on Facebook" I have no idea who he is nor have I ever "slagged anyone off" on fb

coldcallerbaiter · 26/04/2024 16:08

Mine is not a ring but it is a cctv and it is far away from Wi-Fi that has hub indoors, as I have big gardens. It picks up almost every event, 90% but sometimes it does not and I assume it is a drop in Wi-Fi signal

MissConductUS · 26/04/2024 16:09

Desperatelyneedabreak · 26/04/2024 12:50

Yes unfortunately it is the battery one, there was someone outside but it didn't pick them up either.

We have the wired one, a Video Doorbell 3 Plus, and it's never failed us in three years of use.

gamerchick · 26/04/2024 16:09

Sometimes, especially when the batteries running down it does that. Or the WiFi drops out briefly. I'm moving to another type since cancelling the subscription. Greedy fuckers putting it up that much. They're trying to give the away in offers and prizes atm. Serves them right

Sounds like you need CCTV on top.

gamerchick · 26/04/2024 16:11

If it happens again press the button so it chimes. It'll record stuff then.

Oh, worrying. Get a couple of security cameras. You can get stuck on with battery ones too if you are in a hurry.
