Ocado crap when ill

Falsedawn · 25/04/2024 10:29

I had an op last Xmas and ordered ocado.

I made it downstairs 6am to open door. They put the bags on the doormat just inside, so I could not close door and it was less than freezing outside.

Man was an utter cock and refused to move the bags so I ended up having to wake my 9 yo son to help.

Anyway, I've just left hospital again and need a delivery - is any supermarket kind and will bring to the kitchen?

I’ve been getting Ocado for years and they always ask where I want the shopping. Sounds like you were unfortunate with your driver.

Merrow · 25/04/2024 10:31

I don't think they're allowed to to be honest. I've had drivers be very apologetic about it as I've often opened the door while holding a sleeping baby, but I can understand why it's safer for everyone involved that the driver stays outside the house.

Merrow · 25/04/2024 10:33

And having seen the reply above, maybe I've just not had luck with drivers!

BobbyBiscuits · 25/04/2024 10:34

Tesco always bring it in and semi put it away for my mum. Sainsbury's man brought them in, but laughed when she tried to direct him as to where they go. So they all went on the table.
I've never ordered a big order from ocado but their fish and meat were both rotten once!

ButItHasCheese · 25/04/2024 10:38

I thought post covid it was standard to leave at the door (unless the driver felt obliging?)

gkdf · 25/04/2024 10:40

Waitrose will bring into your kitchen/place of choice. They had stopped during covid but they'll come in again now.

OpusGiemuJavlo · 25/04/2024 10:45

Sainsburys and waitrose will gladly bring into the kitchen.

If you contact ocado customer services they may be able to arrange a delivery into the kitchen. this article describes that they were trialling a roll-out of delivery beyond the front door in December 2022.

Bumblingbee101 · 25/04/2024 10:46

Sainsburys are great :)

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 25/04/2024 10:48

Tesco drivers sometimes offer, but I never take them up on it. So at least you know they're allowed to.

I think you can put a note on your order for the driver too, if you wanted to give them advance notice of your need.

ringoffiire · 25/04/2024 11:01

Waitrose are the best by far.

Dbirk · 25/04/2024 11:02

Ocado always brings them in for us. I think you've had bad luck.

Remagirl · 25/04/2024 11:08

Tescos will bring it in. Ours are great and were brilliant when I was in a similar position.

Flossflower · 25/04/2024 11:10

I have been using Ocado for over 10 years. They always put the bags inside the door as that is where I ask them to put them.
Why on earth are you choosing to get your shopping at 6am. They have hourly slots. In 10 years they have delivered outside the hour about a dozen times. Once they notified me that they were running about an hour late and I rang them up because I was going out. They rang the driver and he rearranged so they delivered to me out of turn.

XiCi · 25/04/2024 11:10

Ocado have always asked where I'd like the bags so I think you must have been really unlucky. Definitely order from somewhere that packs in bags- ocado, waitrose, morrisons. The others you have to unpack every item yourself from a crate and its a pita at the best of times never mind after an operation

Maglian · 25/04/2024 11:14

Ocado are by far the best for this IME. I think you just got really unlucky.

Talipesmum · 25/04/2024 11:14

I’ve never needed anyone to bring the shopping in for me but if your last experience was a 6am Xmas time delivery, the driver may have been particularly stressed and over stretched, so trying again at a more humane time of day at a less busy time may have better results.

Sainsbury’s stuff arrives in big crates so that might be harder for you if they do refuse to come in. My MIL has a Sainsbury’s delivery and they bring the crates into the room for her but it’s only a few steps into the room and she’s a tiny bird like 87 year old so it’s really obvious she needs help.

Challengedbutenlightened · 25/04/2024 11:23

Ocado have always asked me where I want my shopping brought to…they are much better than anyone else and example: Easter weekend I ordered half a leg of lamb only to find it wasn’t receipted - no bother from me I’ll use my chicken instead they sent me a £25 voucher for the inconvenience. I then get a call to say the actually found my lamb and they would deliver it within the next couple of hours no charge for the delivery or lamb. it was the area manager on an Easter Sunday, it turned out to be a £33 whole leg of lamb and I kept the voucher.

i think you had bad luck OP

ATerrorofLeftovers · 25/04/2024 11:31

Just had an Ocado delivery 10 minutes ago and the driver offered to bring it in to the kitchen. I thought that was standard, as they usually do. I think you must have been unlucky that one time.

bloom19 · 25/04/2024 11:36

You were unlucky, I'd complain with ocado. They can make sure you never have them in the future. I've had to do it once.

Falsedawn · 25/04/2024 11:46

I complained at the time they just said sorry.

Ridiculous to suggest it was my fault for getting a 6am delivery 🙄

I'll do Waitrose, thanks all

Waitrose

User1979289 · 25/04/2024 11:49

My DGM has a note on her Morrisons account and a woman comes and every week and she actually puts it all away for her. DGM is over 100 and a truely exceptional woman in every way so it could just be the driver in a bit in love with her, or maybe Morrisons are amazing. I am not sure.

orangeleopard · 25/04/2024 11:53

Im disabled and usually get a weekly Tesco order, they’re fantastic and bring it in and unload it onto my kitchen counter.

Once a month/every few months I get an Ocado shop and I hate their format. They literally just chuck all the bags in my hallway or outside my front door and I have to struggle to bring it in myself - which is almost impossible with the lifting and carrying it up off the floor. They always seem to be in a rush and just want to dump it rather than asking questions or helping. It’s crazy how shops vary with their process and treatment of disabled people/people struggling.

I really wasn’t suggesting it was your fault - apologies if it came across like that. I think that with a lot of delivery companies, the drivers are supposed to drop at the door, but will come into the house to help if they have time, or are in a good mood, or are nice. So given it may have been a busy and stressful time for the driver (6am xmas delivery sounds like the start of a long and busy shift) they may have not been inclined to help, but they might be at a less busy or stressful time.
