Ocado crap when ill

Falsedawn · 25/04/2024 10:29

I had an op last Xmas and ordered ocado.

I made it downstairs 6am to open door. They put the bags on the doormat just inside, so I could not close door and it was less than freezing outside.

Man was an utter cock and refused to move the bags so I ended up having to wake my 9 yo son to help.

Anyway, I've just left hospital again and need a delivery - is any supermarket kind and will bring to the kitchen?

@Falsedawn

This was in the final order confirmation from my Waitrose order delivered this week

Help with unpacking your shopping

Please note the following:
• Our drivers can now bring your groceries into your home or to a location of your choice.
• If you prefer, you can take crates into your home or unpack them into your own reusable bags on your doorstep. Please let your driver know when they arrive with your delivery and they'll be happy to help you.
• We're unable to deliver to garages, porches or sheds because we can't leave an order unattended.

Sorry you had an unhelpful driver - you do get the very occasional one who's unhelpful from whatever shop I think. 🌹

sanogo · 25/04/2024 12:32

I used to work for Ocado as a driver

As a driver you are meant to ask the customer if they want the shopping bringing in to the kitchen

Unless Covid changed things?

BoohooWoohoo · 25/04/2024 12:36

I don’t use Ocado but have used some of the others and there’s usually a section where you can add notes like you’d like your shopping brought into the kitchen.

therealcookiemonster · 25/04/2024 13:16

OP did you call ocado and complain following your experience? they are supposed to put the wherever you request.

waitrose is a good shout but I find the selection in ocado much better

LumpyandBumps · 25/04/2024 13:36

My son works for Asda and sometimes mentions taking shopping inside and unloading onto worktop etc. He has notes on the delivery sheet when it is needed.
I think the couple of instances where drivers put things away are individual drivers going above and beyond though. There isn’t much time scheduled for each delivery.

mumda · 25/04/2024 14:27

Some of the morrisons people offer.

MrsMitford3 · 25/04/2024 14:31

Personally I have given up on waitrose deliveries-despite loving them because the sheer number of substitutions makes it a fairly useless service. I always have to go out anyway.

I will echo others in saying I think you have been very unlucky.
I don't want them to come into the house but they will put in front hall or anywhere I ask.

Good luck with your op.

MrsMitford3 · 25/04/2024 14:33

Just to add I think you can put any request like this on your delivery notes with Ocado

redbluegreenyellowbrown · 25/04/2024 14:34

Ive used ocado for over a decade and they always (except in covid times) bring stuff right into my kitchen.

I used them after my major abdominal surgary and said please could they put stuff on my island unit as i couldnt lift anything and it was no trouble at all.

I suggest ocado, say you need help when they arrive and im sure they will help you

lateatwork · 25/04/2024 14:39

Huh? I have had delivery from Sainsbury's, Tesco and Asda and not one single driver has offered to help. It's in crates that they pile up on the doorstep and then I lug them up the stairs whilst they sit on my stoop watching me.

ConsistentlyElectrifiedElves · 25/04/2024 14:43

We find the Waitrose drivers to be the nicest and happiest of them all.

That said, we've only ever had an issue with one Ocado driver. They normally ask where we want the shopping and have, when it's been cold and raining, made sure to put the shopping out of the way of the door, even if it just means moving it over slightly.

I would say give them another try but I agree it's probably not worth risking it given you won't be able to move it easily if they don't agree. Definitely try Waitrose.

Growlybear83 · 25/04/2024 14:47

Ocado drivers will always bring my shopping in to the room of my choice. They only stopped bringing it in during the pandemic.

ohthejoys21 · 25/04/2024 15:33

Ocado used to bring it into the kitchen before Covid. They're not keen to start coming into the house again so I'd love to know if it's part of their job description or at their descetion.

Blackcats7 · 25/04/2024 15:39

I’m really surprised because having tried and binned other supermarkets for endless substitutions and rude (even frankly bizarre) delivery people I stick with Ocado now as they are head and shoulders above the rest.
I’m disabled and it is a great help to have food in bags and the drivers are always extremely nice and helpful.
For contrast from other supermarkets I have had one driver rudely ask me what is wrong with me because I am wearing a mask and on crutches, and a totally bonkers one tell me (out of nowhere) that covid was all a hoax and that he had one vaccination but it made all his hair fall out so he wouldn’t be having anymore. He saw me eyeing his full head of hair doubtfully so piped up again to say defensively well it’s grown back now.

TheChosenTwo · 25/04/2024 15:58

Since Covid no one has ever offered to bring mine in, before covid I always asked them to leave it inside the door (I’m able bodied and can carry the crates myself so didn’t need them to do it).
had ocado for about 10 years, stopped last year as I was fed up with them still using plastic bags and now get Tesco.
What do Tesco do if they bring it in for you? Wait in your kitchen while you tip the crates out? Normally the delivery person waits by my door and I take the crates through and tip them into the side for speed before going back and putting it all away.

Falsedawn · 25/04/2024 11:46

I complained at the time they just said sorry.

Ridiculous to suggest it was my fault for getting a 6am delivery 🙄

You were the one that said you had to wake your son up!
I hope your neighbours were already up.

I only had to wake my son up to shut the front door!
I have a very long drive neighbours have no idea what's coming to my house, but nice of you to think of them.
