Testing for Covid then staying in…what’s the deal?

Bellballbune · 25/04/2024 06:58

I haven’t been feeling well for a couple of days, so out of curiosity I did a Covid test and it was positive - never had it before.

So, once I feel better can I go out - or am I still obliged to stay in? Most people I know aren’t even testing.

7 days from your first day of symptoms at least.

BeaRF75 · 25/04/2024 09:57

Nobody has tested for Covid for about 3 years, so throw the tests away and carry on with life as normal. There are no rules at all. It really isn't a thing!

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 25/04/2024 09:59

If you feel well you go about your day.
If you feel unwell you stay at home.

Windsofchange99 · 25/04/2024 10:08

Nobody cares anymore. Me included. Almost everyone I know has tested positive at some point or other and they're all still alive and well. At first we all thought we were going to die or kill other people by passing it on, but there's no more danger of killing someone with covid than flu. Just go about your business.

That's just not true though is it? You can stop testing and caring and forget about it but thousands can't. Check your privilege!

Covid tests are proven not fit for purpose. They turn positive with Fanta etc. I'd assume its just a cold and go out when ready. Keep hygienic of course but that should be taken as read.

Exactly. Also, it's 2024 - do we "test" for any other minor illnesses before leaving the house? Just use your common sense 2019 style.

Greenfinch7 · 25/04/2024 10:14

I stay away from people or wear a mask until completely 100 % better.

All the ones I used said you shouldn't use the test after eating or drinking.

It's not surprising you get false results if you're incapable of reading/following instructions.

It’s not 2021 any more.

Only 7? Thats appalling. Think of the grannies you could be killing with your willy nilly spreading of germs! You have blood on your hands!

Check your own privilege, many people have no option but to go to work with covid as they won't get paid, maybe subject to disciplinary proceedings if they stay home etc.

Absolute rubbish

  1. If you feel really unwell stay at home
  2. If you feel fairly ok and need to go shopping/ go to work/ take the kids to school then go
@OpusGiemuJavlo said it really well I think. We’re 4 years on and things have changed. Why are we are we still discussing the effectiveness of Covid tests, we’re over that! I don’t even know what clinically vulnerable means any more , I get the vaccinations still , am I ? My daughter has cancer . We just all live life

At first we really were at genuine risk of killing people/making them very seriously ill/overwhelming the NHS. COVID 19 was way more dangerous than flu in the first few waves.

Four years on, by a combination of vaccines and natural immunity from repeated infection, it's not nearly such a big deal, and we can just behave like we would with any other potentially nasty bug that we don't want to inflict on other people.

But that doesn't mean that we were wrong to be much more careful in 2020/early 2021 when it was properly dangerous to more vulnerable people.

Fanta breaks the test, it does not give a positive result.
Lots of things don't work when not used properly.

I agree with the rest of your post though.

This is one of the most batshit posts I’ve ever read on MN. She was feeling unwell. She didn’t test with Fanta. She tested (presumably) with her snot.

Do you also put your hands over your ears and say La La La when people tell you there’s no Father Christmas?

hourstokill · 25/04/2024 12:10

With our work... if we are not well they give you a covid test to take.. and then if you are well enough you can stay at work!

Which is ridiculous.. but this is now the world we live in.

If you feel well then carry on as normal , you did the test cos you didn't feel well... just do what you would normally do if you don't feel well

I think we will have to agree to disagree on this.
Also, during the first lockdown I drove past my local hospital to see approximately 30 Nurses and Doctors on the grass outside being filmed learning a choreographed dance routine. It certainly didn't look anything like the scenes we were seeing on the news each night of hospitals being over run. I was disgusted. I lost my job because of all the lockdowns. My Mum was stuck in her home after losing my Dad a month prior. Boris and co were having parties. I will always always believe this was a huge huge lie.

I mean... this is^ a thread about someone testing so not nobody 😂 ^
^
I test when I think I might have it. I was using the free ones still but I had that 40 day flu recently and did buy some thinking it was Covid. Some people are still mad for covid - and some people don't want you near them with any illness since Covid.^

My neighbour was in charge of a Covid ward and said it was pretty much empty. This was during 'the height'

Yeah i bet she did ,
Why do you think they would lie to us ?
What did they possibly have to gain from that ?
Anecdotally my son was in intensive care last year ( not covid ) and I was asking the staff about what it was like during covid and theu all said they had never seen anything like ,it ,and what a terrible time it was but I guess you would think they were all lying too.
