Colleague cutting nails at their desk at work....

55Sainz · 22/04/2024 09:30

Colleague keeps cutting their nails with nail clippers at their desk every week. Clips onto their desk then brushes them onto the floor. I'd say there is a time and a place at home to do that, not at your desk at work!

Would IBU to ask our manager to tell them to stop it, as clearly my disgusted looks at them are not resonating....

YABU - Leave them alone
YANBU - Yuck! Speak to the manager!

Edited to add - Colleague is cutting their finger nails.

Finger or toe?

MyCatsAreFuckwits · 22/04/2024 09:32

🤮 Yup, speak to manger

KimberleyClark · 22/04/2024 09:34

Unacceptable.

BaconCozzers · 22/04/2024 09:34

Ugh. Yeah, say something directly or speak to the manager, whichever you prefer.

Finger nails.

Revolting.

I would tell them straight that it's absolutely disgusting.

If they argue then I would put in a complaint to your manager.

KimberleyClark · 22/04/2024 09:36

The very least they could do is brush the clippings into a bin rather than the floor.

KreedKafer · 22/04/2024 09:38

I could live with someone clipping their nails at their desk (although I certainly think it’s an odd choice on their part) but brushing the clippings on to the floor is appalling. ‘Don’t leave bits of yourself on the floor of the office’ feels like a fairly basic rule to me.

MrsClatterbuck · 22/04/2024 09:39

I thought that you were going to say brush them into the bin but THE FLOOR. That is totally gross. Cutting them in full view and then brushing onto the floor. Poor cleaners who have to clean up after them.
Why don't they cut them into the bin at least not that this is acceptable either at an office desk.
I would definitely bring it up with Manager.
Would be great if one if the cleaners went to Management and complained someone's nail clippings are on the floor every week.

Bramshott · 22/04/2024 09:39

I don't have a problem with people clipping their nails (whereas filing them - urgghhhh makes my skin crawl!) but I'd feel compelled to ask them to clip them into a tissue and wrap them before throwing away.

Darby3785 · 22/04/2024 09:40

There is definitely a time and a place for your beauty regime and its not at work!

Could you speak to your colleague before involving the manager? It might be a better approach at first, then if there is any comeback you can then I would speak with your manager regarding it.

nzeire · 22/04/2024 09:42

Oh
my
god

that is REVOLTING

No chance of me approaching them first. I have had previous issues with them over their attitude towards me. They are very aggressive in their approach and I'm not putting myself in that position.

I'm assuming you don't work at a nail salon 😂 and suggesting you never consider it!

KrisAkabusi · 22/04/2024 09:43

Nothing wrong with them cutting their fingernails, but they need to put them in the bin afterwards.

No, but there is a time and a place, and your desk at work is not one of them!

I really don't see a problem with someone cutting their nails at work. I've not done it myself, but don't see an issue. It would barely register with me that someone was doing it. The same as the thread last week about people brushing their hair at work. Some people were outraged and disgusted, I would barely notice.

DrJoanAllenby · 22/04/2024 10:27

Like anything it will progress further if not held in check.

If you let your colleague continue and they are female you'll look up one day and find her bleaching her anus whilst on the phone to a customer.

If your colleague is male you'll hear his chair squeaking as he's knocking one out whilst catching up on his emails.

There is never any need to carry out personal grooming at your desk other than perhaps runs a brush quickly through your hair as you get up to leave.

FrannieGallops · 22/04/2024 10:30

I don’t know if clipping fingernails is ‘disgusting’ but it’s really uncouth to do it at your desk and to brush them onto the floor.

Justrolledmyeyesoutloud · 22/04/2024 10:41

Rank!!

CleftChin · 22/04/2024 10:43

I had a colleague do that - and he did include toes. A quiet word was had and he stopped.

Brushing them off onto the floor is particularly horrible.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 22/04/2024 10:58

YANBU, your colleague is disgusting.

I've also seen people do this on public transport.

Grim.

dimllaishebiaith · 22/04/2024 11:05

I can understand clipping a nail quickly if its broken and left a jagged edge thats catching on things, or filing it

But regularly clipping your nails and leaving the nail clippings over the floor for the cleaner to clean up after you is grim

CatamaranViper · 22/04/2024 11:12

It's massively disrespectful to the cleaners for a start. Who just throws rubbish on the floor and expects others to sort it out? Our cleaner (at work) would refuse to clean under his desk or complain to his manager.
