Colleague cutting nails at their desk at work....

Colleague keeps cutting their nails with nail clippers at their desk every week. Clips onto their desk then brushes them onto the floor. I'd say there is a time and a place at home to do that, not at your desk at work!

Would IBU to ask our manager to tell them to stop it, as clearly my disgusted looks at them are not resonating....

YABU - Leave them alone
YANBU - Yuck! Speak to the manager!

Edited to add - Colleague is cutting their finger nails.

There is an adult who was clearly never told as a child to think about others. Totally selfish and disgusting behaviour. Self grooming is not appropriate in an open office during work time. YANBU.

Quite why one would need to clip nails at work is a mystery, but if at work is an absolute necessity then surely they should be made to use the toilets?!

Yuck. Tell line manager

I would not give a shiny shit

LlynTegid · 24/04/2024 18:39

If straight into a bin, maybe OK. Given they are unapproachable, then talk to their manager.

Probably too far a stretch to claim a health and safety issue.

DecoratingDiva · 24/04/2024 19:03

I would have no issue with them clipping their nails (fingers only) but brushing the bits onto the floor is disgraceful.

I would speak with your manager only if you were confident it would not somehow come back on you.

Every week, wow they grow fast.

Why are you hiding this person's sex?

Why are you hiding this person's sex?

How's it relevant?

I'm assuming you don't work at a nail salon 😂 and suggesting you never consider it!

Nail salons don’t brush their nail clippings on to the floor, though

IamaRevenant · 24/04/2024 19:39

Grim.

I used to have a colleague who would bite their fingernails and spit them onto the desk before brushing them off.

Seriously turned my stomach.

tarheelbaby · 24/04/2024 19:40

All grooming and personal maintenance should be done in private. Report this to your manager so s/he can tell to your colleague what his/her parents didn't explain. If your colleague is aggressive that is all the more reason to let your manager address this.

(even hair brushing, topping up make-up (much less applying it - why do people do this on a crowded train?); dealing with a jagged corner should ideally be done in the 'loo also.)

louderthan · 24/04/2024 19:43

I do that occasionally if I realise my nails have got a bit too long or one is splitting but I do it straight into the bin. Brushing them onto the floor feels so disrespectful to everyone else.
