To think I’m going to be sat in my baby’s room this time tomorrow and she’ll still be awake

One hour. Dear god.

Yep, babies do that. Gets worse as they get older believe me!

Wait till "it's light outside, it's not my bedtime yet!" Or coming down the stairs 5 million times in one night:

ffffsssss · 20/04/2024 20:02

Yeah thanks for that

Oh my DS was just like this when he was a baby. I feel you OP. Literally no words of advice.

I just hope your DC gets better quicker than he did!

He's 20 now and I can't get him out of bed 🙄

ffffsssss · 20/04/2024 20:04

Thanks. Sorry didn’t mean to be so moody, it’s been a horrible bedtime.

My DD was the same. The record was 4h when she was around 9 months old. Around the same time she managed a 24h period where she had 3 half hour naps, that was it. Hell on earth. It does get better OP, she's 3 now and mostly sleeps through.

Peonies12 · 20/04/2024 20:05

Why? Just leave. I’ve never stayed in the room with mine.

ffffsssss · 20/04/2024 20:06

Good for you.

how old is your baby?I’ve got a sleep resistant one. He’s primary school now and still struggles. Has weighted blanket/eye mask etc..

Thislittlekitten · 20/04/2024 20:07

My firstborn was like this. It feels like torture at times. I remember crying to a friend who had children asking if they ever slept!

It does pass. I know it’s sounds rubbish at this point but it will.

To be fair it’s sort of self induced on my part, she’d fall asleep straightaway in my arms but then wake when transferred, so it’s tempting to just do that but I know it’s not the answer. It’s killing my back, the other child was a pain and I’m so hungry 😭

Most of us have been there.

Flapjack in pocket, really trashy easy to read chick lit book and a pair of glasses with lights on the side. A couple of big floor cushions next to their crib. DH can wake you up when he goes to bed.

Thanks, every time I moved she cried 🤣

She’s asleep I think. Sent DH to check as I’m scared to!

How old is she?

princessbeetroot · 20/04/2024 20:15

Yeah I've been there OP, many times. Solidarity. Decent pair of wireless headphones and a podcast was all that got me through it. And try and eat before you put them to bed.

I'm currently lying next to a seven year old because sometimes they still want their mum even when they're not babies. I'd rather be that comfort than just leave them to it because it's easier for me. It does get better thought but it's bloody torture while it lasts.

@ffffsssss

why did you send him to check?

she was either sleeping not, but she wasn't crying so why not just leave her to get herself off to sleep??

I heard a phantom baby.

Get a monitor and then you won't need to go back in to check!

ffffsssss · 20/04/2024 20:21

I hate monitors though, they stress me out. And the noise carries on them so you hear wails intensified.

Op I think most of us will have been in a similar situation at some point it's bloody tough, well done for getting through tonight 💪🏻

NerdWhoEatsMedlar · 20/04/2024 20:24

I heard a phantom baby.

You need a night off.
Either sign up to a once a week bedtime class: knitting, Tai Chi, axe throwing... whatever; or just feck off with your girl friends for a one off. Paranoia is setting in.

Seenandheard · 20/04/2024 20:24

I have attatched a little piece of advice that made me chuckle when my kids were young, right from this website. They are now 6 and 4 and sleep beautifully. Stay strong!

This. You're making a rid for your own back.

50Fifty · 20/04/2024 20:34

I'm sitting in a darkened room with my almost 4 year old whilst he fidgets and tries to think of excuses to talk. I've been here for 1.5hrs! I made a rod for my own back by staying with him, singing until he fell asleep... BIG mistake!! I also had to rock him to sleep until he was 2!!!! I didn't make the same one with DS2.

patchworkpal · 20/04/2024 20:38

I know it's cliche but one day they won't need you to fall and asleep but that will be because all the groundwork you're putting in now. Making them feel safe and loved. Take care
