I wany to go on holiday to occidental jandia mar hotel eith my children and husband but I'm put off by it saying on the beaches there's lots of nudists. Is this true and is lanzarote better if I don't want to see nudists?

There are in some areas. We inadvertently booked a self catering apartment in El Cotillo. Son aged 8 was very amused because they were mostly elderly. It's not every beach btw just certain ones.

Invisimamma · 20/04/2024 18:57

I've been a few times and never seen nudists. I suppose like any European destination you might come across it though, just go to another part of the beach 🤷‍♀️.

KeinLiebeslied54321 · 20/04/2024 20:33

It was a long time ago when we went to Fuerteventura, but the reps did mention that there were nudist beaches in some areas. There were also plenty of non-nudist beaches too though. I'm sure you could maybe Google and/or double check with the reps when you're there, so not to stray into nudist areas! Fuerteventura is popular with British and German tourists, and Germans have traditionally had a much more open view about public nudity than Brits (especially those from the former DDR).

Wrapmelon · 20/04/2024 22:02

If you worry about nudists, Lanzarote might be better I think.
We were at a 'non nudist' beach in Fuertaventura, but it was next to a nudist one, so not very different as being on that beach 😄, just a flag marking the border, same bits visable.
This was almost 20 years ago, though

TheFormidableMrsC · 20/04/2024 22:15

I went there some years ago now. Took 8 yo to see the volcanic rock pools and saw a vast amount of balls and penis. No women. Just naked men. Was a short visit 😆

liquoricetorpedoes · 20/04/2024 22:25

We have stayed at the sister hotel (just slightly down the hill) a number of times and know the beach fairly well. You will see people nude but it really isn’t a big deal, more people have costumes on, there’s a real mix.

It’s a lovely beach, with a nature reserve but it’s a fairly steep walk back up the hill to the hotel.

RespiceFinemKarma · 20/04/2024 22:30

A friend and I walked around there by accident about 15yrs ago - the men all pop up like meerkats. Usually 40+ and with a hopeful twinkle in their eye(s)

Shuggie1234 · 20/04/2024 22:33

Was there about 12 years ago and there was a small section of the beach that was for nudists. It was separate and signposted so easy to avoid

Growlybear83 · 20/04/2024 22:35

We've stayed at El Cotillo many times and most of the beaches by the lagoons are nudist friendly. No-one gives them a second glance and I've certainly never seen anyone with a 'hopeful twinkle in their eyes'!

pinkdaffodill · 20/04/2024 22:44

Flag beach is full of naked Germans Grin

katebushh · 20/04/2024 23:02

I went last year and didn't see any.

PutOnYourRedShoesAndLetsDance · 20/04/2024 23:10

Just got back from Fueterventura last month.. go a couple of times a year.. the beaches are vast so you might see occasional one or two but it's not like loads of nudists packed in together.
Same in Lanzarote ( Lanzarote actually has a naturist village.. even the shops/ bars are naturist) but its not in the holiday makers resorts.
We are going to Lanzarote this week.
In Jan we saw one topless woman.
We take my nine year old Grandson.. he never seems to notice any .. and if he did.. he would just take it in his stride..

TheHateIsNotGood · 20/04/2024 23:10

No idea about now, but my recollection of Fuerteventura beaches from the 1980s was - windy sandstorms, you were lucky to get your head out never mind any genitalia or other body parts.

But I did notice that, sandstorms permitting, it was totally ok to get your kit off, let it all hang out, and no one gave a shit.

I'm sure things have changed since then.

VWT5 · 20/04/2024 23:29

You won’t really be troubled in that Jandia location.
Children honestly seem totally oblivious to the naturists in Fuerteventura, IME and over past 2 months and more.
It’s only Brit adults who seem to be hung up on it being a problem.
Yes, some of us might be like Meercats….but definitely never a twinkle in our eye.
All of the naturists I have come across have without exception been nice people, kind, interesting and respectful. People who have lived through stuff, plenty with physical scars who are celebrating just being alive.

Anotherparkingthread · 20/04/2024 23:41

I went a few years ago, both me and partner were naked on the beach most days. Saw lots of other naked people too, though we were very young compared to most of them.

Very respectful everybody keeps a distance, no staring etc. Not all beaches are nudist beaches.

Did see a woman with her husband and young children who looked extremely shocked when she saw me laying around naked in the sun, I think she thought I was sunbathing topless and after a second she sort of compsoed herself, then looked even more shocked when when a plump old man gleefully walked passed giving her a nod with his little todger blowing in the wind.

It's very very very windy there!

Motomum23 · 21/04/2024 07:23

It is legal to be nude on any beach in Spain so even a 'nin nudist' beach might find the occasional Bare bum... that being said they usually keep themselves to themselves and its not that noticeable. It's not a nudist resort like vera playa on mainland... that wad full of nude builders and nudes in the cafes! 🫣🤣

exomoon · 21/04/2024 07:29

Yes, it’s true. I had no idea and took my prudish Asian mum on a day trip to Jandia.

We went back to Corralejo sharpish.

DustyLee123 · 21/04/2024 07:31

I saw a naked man running down the shore line on a beach that’s not nudist.
I felt sorry for him as he had nothing to show off about!
There were many topless German women in the hotel, and I spotted a naked man on his balcony.

VestibuleVirgin · 21/04/2024 07:34

God forbid you or your children see anyone naked!

Gannon19 · 21/04/2024 08:27

I've put a post on here about if there are lots of nudists at the beach in fuerteventura. It seems to be that there are. Does anyone know if it is a bit less at lanzarote near h10 princess. Each to there own I just don't want itvtoo much with my children.. my preference. Thank you in advance

What makes you think he was showing off or needed your pity?

Of course it's your choice.
As it is we didn't see any naked folk at all on Fuerteventura while we were there, and the nudist beaches existed then. We wouldn't have been bothered if we had but I get that some folk would be.

Are you sure this is actually a true recollection?

amidsummernightsdream · 21/04/2024 09:09

I remember being on holiday there as a child 30 years ago. My dad and I were walking to El Cotillo and had to walk across a couple of nudist beaches on the way. He just told me to look the other way. I thought it was a bit odd at the time but didnt think much of it at all.

I dont think there was anything like that in corellejo. It’s a very family friendly place. Certainly woukdnt put me off going with kids. You can certainly avoid the nudest beaches but there’s really no harm in them.

We stayed at another resort but when we visited Corallejo for the day we were advised to stay on the main beach and not wander too far either side if we didn't want to see nudists. That was a while back though. Callete de Fueste (spelling?) is a man made beach but apparently there are no nudists there.
