AIBU to suggest that women seem to be the superior sex when it comes to The Apprentice TV show? *spoiler alert*

ApprenticeWinnerxoxo · 20/04/2024 07:09

Every year, they start with single sex teams. Every year, the women's team outperforms the men's, leading to the teams having to be reorganised into mixed sex teams.
For the past 5 years, the winning candidate has been female!

I struggle to believe that the contestants on the show are the best young entrepreneurs the country has to offer. They are surely picked for entertainment value alone with the odd slightly more sensible one who could reasonably be a winner. The work they produce is often on par with a school project and the £250,000 is probably just absorbed as a cost of making a hit bbc show and if it’s never seen again, that is no big loss. Saying that, I loved some of this years contestants, particularly Tre who I thought was a lovely guy and wish them success.

You might want to put a spoiler alert in the title

ManchesterBeatrice · 20/04/2024 07:19

I do agree, although the standard this year was absolutely appalling.

They should bring back the apprentice Juniors, they were much better.

AhBiscuits · 20/04/2024 07:29

I like that it came down to Gym vs Pies.

Spoiler alert!

How can you spoil something that was on 2 days ago?

Anyway - the whole thing is unrealistic.

Fair point

VestibuleVirgin · 20/04/2024 08:29

For heaven's sake, hardly a spoiler after 2 days given social media and the fact she's already out there in tv land since winning.
But to the point of post; don't kid yourself into thinking this is anything other than a manufactured, heavily edited, entertainment programme, with contestants chosen according to a set of criteria.
It says nothing about the male/female situation

LlynTegid · 20/04/2024 08:32

The BBC have form for flogging a show well past it's sell by date. This is just another example, alongside My Family, Death in Paradise, Strictly, Last of the Summer Wine and many others.

Unrepresentative of the modern largely e-commerce world.

KateDelRick · 20/04/2024 08:33

The pie man lost nearly all the tasks, didn't he?

KimberleyClark · 20/04/2024 08:35

They all seem to be people who have never received criticism of any kind in their lives and have a hyper inflated idea of their own abilities.

Actually I disagree with that. I mean, the whole thing is nonsense obviously but I rewatched the final 5 from last year, all women with ridiculous, frivolous ideas for sweet and hair "businesses" with absolute zero grasp of the most basic business concepts, except one, and she won. At least this year all of the final five had viable businesses and plans that won't a total joke.
What they do week to week is so heavily edited and orchestrated, with a lot of factors limiting their performance that we don't see like time limits on communication, no access to research etc, all so it's more entertaining. The high point this year was Noor insisting her appalling ad was "very good" when L Sugar had panned it.

KateDelRick · 20/04/2024 08:59

I think last year was all about eyelashes and desserts. This year, slightly better.
I do wish someone would come up with something more useful and practical, but maybe those people wouldn't go on the Apprentice.

Bluevelvetsofa · 20/04/2024 09:13

The online pie site crashed because of all the orders, so Phil won’t be complaining. His pie shops are local to us and they are very good. I’ve mentioned them to friends in other parts of the country, who buy them online, so he’s probably done quite well out of it, despite ring on the losing team.

PrincessFionaCharming · 20/04/2024 09:14

I mean it’s not much of an accolade really, is it?

SevenSeasOfRhye · 20/04/2024 09:14

What about Tre - his plan was ludicrous.

skipit8103 · 20/04/2024 09:15

The word “superior” is not relevant to either gender on the Apprentice. It’s more a case of which is less inferior than the other and it’s too hard to call

And Steve gave up on his business idea as soon as he was fired. Seemed weird that some of them hadn't even really started their businesses yet.

sandrie · 20/04/2024 09:28

I hadn't watched the final episode yet!

I'm also not convinced, in recent years, that the standard of these 'entrepreneurs' is very high. Last year was particularly poor, with more than one candidate who dropped their businesses after the show had ended (one had a sweet business, immediately dropped, the sort of thing you see frequently see on Facebook, with everyday sweets from wholesalers, arranged in bags and boxes, by theme or colour.) The Apprentice was clearly used to increase their exposure on social media.

BibbleandSqwauk · 20/04/2024 11:09

I think Tre was actually onto something he just hadn't taken the idea far enough yet. As a candidate in the process he was one of the more effective ones in the tasks. My DD and I loved Flo, just for her general intelligence and calmness compared to some of the others.

There was a similar idea on Dragons' Den a few weeks ago where the business owners were in production and sale of the product - they still got nowhere with the Dragons as there was no scientific evidence to support its being effective. Until there is a proper clinical trial, no product like that is going to be anything more than just another supplement amongst zillions of supplements.

Because there are thousands of people who don't watch live tv

At what point would it be ok to mention who won The Apprentice this year?

Would it be ok to mention who won Celebrity Race Across the World? It ended a few months ago

PrincessFionaCharming · 20/04/2024 12:26

If it has already been on live tv, it’s fair game for discussion and it’s up to you to do what you can to avoid spoilers after that point.

you know, like avoiding threads with “The Apprentice” in the title.

🙄

CurlewKate · 20/04/2024 12:57

@SandysMam "Tre who I thought was a lovely guy and wish them success."

But who had a business plan with no figures in it, and a product he had no idea how to manufacture or distribute.
