To not want to be forced to leave 5* review?

Marooney · 18/04/2024 11:33

I've had an expensive cosmetic treatment (microblading). After the first session they whatsapped me to ask me to leave a review, and I said I would after the touch-up session when the treatment would be complete.

Just had that last session, and on my way out the lady asked if I'd leave a review, and could she show me how to do it via Google maps rather than Google. No problem. But then she thrusts my phone back into my hand with 5 stars selected and motions me to sit and write it there and then. I said no thanks I'll do it in my own time and she said I might forget! Anyway she was friendly enough when I left but I'm really annoyed now. I probably won't leave any review rather than mentioning it as I'd like to return for future treatments. AIBU?

That's werid, she must really need bumping up. If you want to go back, just leave the review. .. or they might lock the door next time until you do

CreateAUsername2024 · 18/04/2024 11:38

Yanbu the idea of reviews is honesty do she has no right to assume you'd give her 5 star. I rely a lot on reviews to find beauticians and would be pissed off to think they weren't entirely genuine.

stoneyfaces · 18/04/2024 11:38

she might have just wanted you to do it whilst it was open in case you couldn’t find the section again? I think you’re overthinking this a little 🤷🏻‍♀️

It can be difficult running small businesses and clinics- reviews are incredibly important

AdultReindeer · 18/04/2024 11:39

God, no. That would piss me right off! It's pretty much falsifying reviews, not to mention super pushy.

I actually don't think I'd go back after that.

But she shouldn't have chosen the number of stars, that's up to me... and she has over 1500 reviews!!

She'd already selected 5* and wanted OP to do it in front of her, that's not ok. The only thing this would achieve from me would be no review and feeling doubts, wondering if every other good review there was gotten this way.

Best case scenario she'd get no review from me and I wouldn't want to be pressured again so probably wouldn't go back.

Awkward.

I acted as a guinea pig for a woman training in a specific field which I enjoyed but didn’t find truly beneficial. When it finished and she qualified and set up as a business she asked me to leave her a five star review which I felt very uncomfortable with. I did as asked but didn’t write anything very glowing as in all honesty I hadn’t benefited from the experience in the way she probably wanted.

aurynne · 18/04/2024 11:49

I would leave a 3 star review and add that the business owner tried to pressure me to leave a 5 star review at the end of the session, which made the whole situation awkward and uncomfortable and somehow spoiled the great experience I had had until then.

notofsoundmind · 18/04/2024 11:50

she would get one star from me for that

Edited

I know but I do really like how she did my eyebrows so would like to continue with her

Funny, pretty much the same thing happened to me in hotel lobby in South East Asia last week “write a 5 star review”, pushing for online reviews is common place here but this was next level; seems counterproductive. The only thing I’ll remember about that hotel now will be an overbearing manager.

If she did a good job, leave her a good review.

She was pushy about it, but whatever, she did a good job right?

...so continue with her. Do you think she's going to screw up your eyebrows next time if you don't leave a 5* review?

Itsalwaysthelasttime · 18/04/2024 12:03

I run a small holistic business I love getting a review, I send a request after their appointment but clearly state if you aren't the reviewing type then no worries 😊
I would hate my clients to feel any pressure.

OpusGiemuJavlo · 18/04/2024 12:03

Give her a 4 star review and say "Would have been 5star but she was so pushy and overbearing about trying to force me to leave a 5star review that it made me feel quite uncomfortable. Actual service was brilliant though."

WiddlinDiddlin · 18/04/2024 12:07

Ew, this would get my back up massively - and it seems like she already has a ton of reviews so its not going to make a huge difference either!

I have to ask people to review our 'product' at work, I only do this where the user has expressed quite a bit of delight at the product and I apologise profusely for asking. It does make a huge difference to 'the product' if they do leave a review. We also have a way of ensuring users are not asked twice and we tell them that so they know they won't be nagged.

We would not dream of pressurising people to leave a 5 star review or to do it right this second, thats outrageous!

Worth noting though - on some platforms (Etsy is one), a 5 star IS what you should leave if the service/product is as expected. If you leave less than that, the business in question suffers some sort of penalty if their 5 star % drops. This is a problem when people who ARE happy with what they got, leave say a 4 star because in their mind a 5 star is only for service above and beyond the norm.

Of course if you are not happy, don't feel as though you've got what you paid for, then don't leavea 5 star review!

Whateveer · 18/04/2024 12:10

It might have been selected on 5 stars already or you change it. Just leave a review you were clearly happy with it to want to return. Reviews can make or break a small business, don't let your stubbornness get in the way.

Maverickess · 18/04/2024 12:17

Did you actually see her select the 5 stars?
I review through Google and on there the 5 stars are is automatically highlighted and you then click to unhighlight (I'm not sure that's a word actually 🤔 but you get my drift) other sites like trip advisor work the other way around, they're blank and you highlight them by clicking.

We've had (at work) mistakes both ways round, 1 star but a glowing written review or 5 stars and a bad one. I think some people don't necessarily know how it works on each particular site.

We ask people for reviews for a bit of balance, and send links in emails to make it easier for them, so they're not spending time searching etc. A lot of people only review the bad stuff, or do it for revenge and that doesn't give an accurate view.

MorningSunshineSparkles · 18/04/2024 14:07

What’s the issue with leaving her a review if you really like what she’s done? The stars are already highlighted, you need to adjust the rating. And if you’re paying for a service that you’re that happy with you’ll be going back to use it again then surely leaving a review isn’t a big deal?

Marooney · 18/04/2024 14:28

@Whateveer @Maverickess @MorningSunshineSparkles

The stars are not highlighted by default - this is on Google maps on my Android - so she put the 5 stars herself. (I did check in case this was what had happened). This is really pushy and unprofessional in my opinion. And not that it should matter but it's not a 'small business' depending on your definition I suppose, and she has an average of 5 stars from over 1500 reviews (now we know why 😆)

IncompleteSenten · 18/04/2024 14:31

X post. 😁

I wonder how many of them are people who felt too awkward to say no.

Leaving a review is no problem at all and I'm happy to do so, but the entire concept of the review process is that it's the client's own opinion. At no point had I said to her anything like "I'd give you a 5 star review!" in which case I would have found her prompting it on my phone cheeky but funny, and gone ahead with it

Jk8 · 18/04/2024 14:33

Surely you'd just change the stars on it (& do it infront of her)
