No I am not jealous as I don't want to look like her, want her job, her kids, house, brain or husband or even money. I'm also 20 years younger.

AIBU for thinking that she hasn't all that much of substance to offer so she relies on shocks, attention seeking stunts that she calls "cheeky"?

Some of you out there must love Mand, so let me know what you think and if you think I'm being a Mean Girl.

Amanda Holden pulls her zip down as star goes braless in jaw-dropping dress

Her job is about grabbing attention and she's really good at it.

We're all different and we all make our living in different ways, why not just be pleased to see a woman succeeding? Or ignore her, if you prefer.

cerisepanther73 · 17/04/2024 17:23

What is it exactly is she famous for really in first place ? 🤔
@BillieTheFish

PutOnYourRedShoesAndLetsDance · 17/04/2024 17:23

I think she's amazing.
I follow her on Instagram.
Amazing actress/ singer. Great sense of humour.. but very compassionate.
Brilliant Mum and wife.. and yes she's stunning with an equally stunning figure.

@PutOnYourRedShoesAndLetsDance

Hi 👋 Amanda Holden or Amanda Holden's mother, or her bestie friend
🧡

Or

Blimey you are easily pleased entertainment wise 🤔

AutumnCrow · 17/04/2024 17:28

(I’ve had some foul personal remarks about my appearance and dress on student response questionnaires, which was a real knock to my confidence ...)

Bloody hell, @PollySolo, I hope you told your Head of Department? I'd have put a stop to the questionnaires if I were in charge of it.

This is why I hate that crappy casual prose about women's bodies and clothes used by the Mail and Express etc. It normalises an abnormal expression of the unwanted 'gaze', including from many young people. They think women actually need judging and that's it's ok to articulate this dysfunction quite openly.

BlancheSaysYes · 17/04/2024 17:30

She looks decades younger than her real age. I wonder what she looks like up close and personal? She's very glamorous and a complete show off, and has no problem admitting that. The problem will be when she's no longer able to cheekily flash her braless boson and she starts to look her age - if she ever does. I believe her mother is still very beautiful.

cerisepanther73 · 17/04/2024 17:32

Amanda Holden just another one famous just for who she is seeing or the kinds of clothes she wears, showing off her figure boobs ect,🙄 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱

StMarieforme · 17/04/2024 17:34

I have an irrational dislike of AH, and also Davina McCall. Can't even explain why.

cerisepanther73 · 17/04/2024 17:35

@BlancheSaysYes

Once she can't rely on her looks and her figure

She will end up going 🤪 bonkers crazy with cosmetic surgery like Michael Jackson and Maddonna and Bride of weisindstone of America
Who looks like a mix of female 🦁 lioness and human..

Beatrixslobber · 17/04/2024 17:36

I met her once, she was really nice. I had no idea who she was and haven’t seen anything that she’s been in (that I can think of) but as a person I really liked her. She was with Les Dennis who I had heard of and strongly disliked.

Elephantswillnever · 17/04/2024 17:40

I’m not overly keen on all the filler, does anyone else think it’s affected her speech. I’m sure she was on an episode of I can see your voice and sounded very odd.

theworldie · 17/04/2024 17:40

lazyarse123 · 17/04/2024 16:05

I'm with you op. Not much talent and a pure exhibitionist. She does have a good figure but how many times do we need to see it?

I can understand why people dislike her as she’s very full on however she definitely isn’t talentless. She’s a very good actress and an accomplished singer (she has a lovely voice). She was in a programme calling Cutting It when she was younger which I loved. Been in lots of theatre etc.

She’s definitely milking her fame for all its worth but I actually think she’s very tongue in cheek about it - agree she has a great sense of humour. And there’s no denying she looks very good for her age, albeit with a few tweaks here and there!

Unfortunately, my Head of Dept was the original academic patriarch, and a complete tool, who made it very clear I hadn’t been the candidate he’d wanted and tried to get me fired during my probation period. (Long and remarkably dull story.)

But I take a very robust approach with such things in relation to any younger female academics I mentor or who are in my orbit.

And absolutely agreed on the rest of your post.

She very much does not 'look decades younger than her real age'.

Bassetthoundears · 17/04/2024 18:00

Like a pp, I had never seen her in anything until I watched the Alan Carr Italian home renovation series series in which she came across very well; kind, funny, practical with huge energy. I don’t think she is vacuous at all.

I think she has a lot of pluck and is an old fashioned “trooper”. Reading her Wiki page just now; her father was an alcoholic so she didn’t have an easy, privileged start in life, so she has had to work very hard to get where she is. If you look at everything she has done, she has certainly packed a lot in, including winning an Olivier award for her theatre work.

I personally prefer a more natural style but she’s in showbizz so it’s part of her job to maintain her physical appearance and she said to Alain Carr that she used to be a gymnast so I imagine that helps!

It’s a bit disappointing when people starts threads on here simply for the purpose of saying how much they dislike a woman who is successful in her own sphere of work.

I don’t find all the revealing outfits particularly edifying, nor do I particularly approve of plastic surgery, because I think it normalises
women cutting up their healthy bodies for appearance’s sake, with all the attendant risks that carries for them, but I imagine the pressures are different when your work is in front of a camera.

Teenytinycarlady · 17/04/2024 18:02

there are plenty of women in their 50s and above who I respect for their attitude and their work

Can you list the 50 years & older female TV & radio presenters you do respect?

NeverDropYourMooncup · 17/04/2024 18:07

5128gap · 17/04/2024 16:04

I think you're reacting in the way a lot of women do to an older woman who doesn't stay in the lane you expect her to. Countless women in the public eye behave in similar ways, yet the older ones tend to cause the most 'irritation'. I think Amanda, (and Madonna and Carol Vordeman et al) disgust you not because of what they do, but because they are older. Age frightens and repels you because you know its coming for you too, and it's easier for you to deal with that if older women help you by making themselves as invisible as possible. I'm no fan of Amanda, but if the woman were 33 rather than 53, i bet you'd barely notice her, never mind feel compelled to start a thread about how unbearable she is.

Couldn't stand Vorderman from when she was hawking dodgy house buying/lifetime mortgages on daytime TV to pensioners because 'you know me, I'm clever and really good with numbers'. Couldn't stand Holden either from the outset. No idea why, just found her immensely jarring on the whole, not just for the 'look at me doing the splits' shite.

Bloody love Mary Beard, though.

honeylulu · 17/04/2024 18:07

I don't feel anything in particular about AH. If she likes a glamorous look and that's how she chooses to present herself, fair enough and good for her. I think the same about women who decide to embrace the grey or not wear make up, fair enough and good for them.

Shall we just let women get on with making their own choices? I don't see many men being called "unbearable" because of their self care choices.

shivbo2014 · 17/04/2024 18:11

Aw I love her and Jamie Theakston in the morning on my journey to work. She seems nice to me!

How many times do people need to comment on her figure, and looks? It is tiresome.

GoodnightJude1 · 17/04/2024 18:14

If I had a body like hers I’d be unzipping at every given opportunity!

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 17/04/2024 18:18

BillieTheFish · 17/04/2024 16:51

I referenced her age simply in contrast to my own to stall off the "are you jealous you don't look like her at the same age" comments that may have ensued. Not because I think her behaviour is stupid for a woman of 53. I think it's stupid for a woman of my age or of 23. I also happen to think it stupid behaviour for a man, too.

No, you wrote a thread to disparage this woman because that's what you wanted to do. You can't keep your bile to yourself and it has everything to do with this a) being a woman, b) her age and c) her behaviour and your perception of it. Where is all your vehemence against Christian Bale? Alec Baldwin?

I don't watch anybody in any chat show or celebrity programme but Amanda Holden was in Cutting It, one of my favourite dramas, she did a decent job with a nominal script. I haven't seen her in anything else.

I totally agree with 5218gap, people like you are buying into the media portrayal; it's a bit thick-witted to do that. Stop reading about people you don't like and definitely stop posting about them because every time you mention them, you give them publicity. Why do that if they're so abhorrent to you?

Or, post about them if you like and be prepared for responses telling you that you're being discriminatory and unfair.

PTSDBarbiegirl · 17/04/2024 19:00

It's how she earns money, from brands she's endorsing and from the newspaper, it'll circulate on her social media making her sites more attractive to advertisers and sponsors. She's always been really good at this, doubt she'd get slagged if she was 25 so stop the pearl clutching!!

Youzaname · 17/04/2024 19:03

That picture looks nothing like her. At least to me. I always find it fascinating how some pictures can make some people look nothing like themselves.

Allofaflutter · 17/04/2024 19:18

My fav over 50 woman is Sandi Toksvig.
