No I am not jealous as I don't want to look like her, want her job, her kids, house, brain or husband or even money. I'm also 20 years younger.

AIBU for thinking that she hasn't all that much of substance to offer so she relies on shocks, attention seeking stunts that she calls "cheeky"?

Some of you out there must love Mand, so let me know what you think and if you think I'm being a Mean Girl.

Amanda Holden pulls her zip down as star goes braless in jaw-dropping dress

Amanda Holden had fans demanding to know how she maintains such youthful looks, as she showcased her phenomenal physique in yet another sexy dress this morning.

Exactly what is the point of your post ?
If we all agreed with you would you feel happier? 🤔

Read it again, and you might get the point of the post. I have not asked for anyone to agree with me, never mind "all".

Judgemental that's all I see.
You don't actually know her only what you see on TV and in newspapers.
Far more to be irritated by in life than AH.

I am with OP. Vacuous woman.

I think you're reacting in the way a lot of women do to an older woman who doesn't stay in the lane you expect her to. Countless women in the public eye behave in similar ways, yet the older ones tend to cause the most 'irritation'. I think Amanda, (and Madonna and Carol Vordeman et al) disgust you not because of what they do, but because they are older. Age frightens and repels you because you know its coming for you too, and it's easier for you to deal with that if older women help you by making themselves as invisible as possible. I'm no fan of Amanda, but if the woman were 33 rather than 53, i bet you'd barely notice her, never mind feel compelled to start a thread about how unbearable she is.

Oh behave, she’s only 53.

Plenty of 50+ women on TV, this isn’t the 1970s. You talk like she’s 80.

I happen to like Holden - she’s fun, silly, entertaining, wears great clothes etc.

PollySolo · 17/04/2024 16:19

I appreciate your point in general, and have no strong feelings about Amanda Holden, but do you not think that AH, Carol Vorderman et al are in fact actually keeping firmly in the Older Celebrity Woman lane in terms of self-presentation? It would be far more out of lane these days to rock a grey perm, unshaven pits and a sensible Per Una outfit.

I think there's a difference between straying from the norm, as in what many women of their age now actually look and behave like, and straying from their lane, which is what people think they should by rights look and behave like. Women with grey perms wearing clothes associated with middle age do not get scrutinised and criticised for their appearance or accused of 'attention seeking', nor are they typically the subject of this sort of thread, unless they actually do and say things that are controversial. AH barely says a word of note, good or bad, yet here people are finding her 'unbearable' based on her self presentation.

OP referenced her age. There was a similar thread recently about her dancing at her daughters party which was full of references to her behaviour and clothing choices and how 'sad' it was 'at her age'. You might think 'only 53' but there's plenty of people seem to feel it needs a mention.

PostItInABook · 17/04/2024 16:48

I find it really bizarre that people generate opinions about celebrities like they know them personally. It’s so weird.

FriedGold · 17/04/2024 15:59

I was totally indifferent to Amanda Holden, but recently watched her in the programme with Alan Carr where they renovate a €1 home in Italy. They were really funny, down to earth and likeable on it. Give it a watch and see if it changes your opinion at all!

Same!

I wasn't a fan before that show but she seemed very nice in that.

Her idea of fashion/decor isn't rhetorical same as mine but that's no reason for me to take offence or dislike the woman.

I referenced her age simply in contrast to my own to stall off the "are you jealous you don't look like her at the same age" comments that may have ensued. Not because I think her behaviour is stupid for a woman of 53. I think it's stupid for a woman of my age or of 23. I also happen to think it stupid behaviour for a man, too.

Same here! Wasn't sure what to expect from the programme but they were great together, really funny & I liked her.
As for the photos, well she's keeping herself visible for her career - networking on line. Pretty brave given all the derogatory comments people make, especially about her age.
I've just turned 52 so I'm only a year younger & have really let myself go to be honest but I'm thinking 'if you've got it, flaunt it!'

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 17/04/2024 16:55

I don’t understand why she uses these tactics when she has a truly amazing singing voice. It seems such a waste to not make a career out of that but each to their own I suppose.

Summerdew · 17/04/2024 16:56

I love her, I think she looks like great fun. She can laugh at herself and is open about having to work hard for her figure. I also think she looks absolutely terrific in what she wears, I’m jealous, I’d love to look like that. She’s had some awful life experiences, as have a lot of people but she doesn’t complain about them and she seems to work hard for what she’s got.

MsLuxLisbon · 17/04/2024 16:57

YANBU. Can't stand her, she always comes across as so vain and attention seeking.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 17/04/2024 16:59

I don't like her, never have. Nothing to do with her age.

MsLuxLisbon · 17/04/2024 17:00

That said, she does have a lovely singing voice. She is a poor actress, though. I don't know why she didn't pursue singing rather than acting.

neverendingcold · 17/04/2024 17:01

Leave Vorders out of it

ABwithAnItch · 17/04/2024 17:06

I’m 51 and actually really admire her. I think she looks amazing. I would love to know what her routines are, if she’s on HRT, her skincare regime, etc. I could not care less about her looking sexy or trying to gain attention. younger women do it all the time so why can’t she? some people just really like attention and it doesn’t bother me at all. Watching her on shows where she acts more natural, like that Italy one with her and Alan Carr…. she comes across as quite down to earth. Really struggle with women putting down other women for no good reason. Let her be herself.

MrsCrumPinnett · 17/04/2024 17:08

They do when they appear on tv. Am thinking of the vicious personal criticism Mary Beard has had about her appearance (older than AH, obviously, but has been presenting TV programmes since she was in her 50s), and recently, happening to Google the historian/presenter Bettany Hughes because I was trying to remember a series, I came across entire Reddits dedicated to her weight and whether men ‘still would’.

I don’t in the least blame any woman in the public eye for obeying the ‘rules’, obviously. (I’ve had some foul personal remarks about my appearance and dress on student response questionnaires, which was a real knock to my confidence when I was younger — am 2 years younger than Amanda Holden.) Nor do I see self-presentation as an aspect of personality. What someone looks like doesn’t make them ‘unbearable’ unless they’ve got a Hitler facial tattoo or something.

TinselSniffer · 17/04/2024 17:15

I've always liked her since she was in The Grimleys. I think she seems good fun and her figure is amazing, I'd show it off too!

cerisepanther73 · 17/04/2024 17:18

@BillieTheFish

She obviously 🙄 has not got anything else going for her
Other than her a bit ubove average looks and her figure and showing off her figure to all and sundry men
for the ego kicks boost and top of her earnings power to entertainment punters..

That's it really

Nothing else about her,

You don't have to have any talent to get far in showbiz L.o.l 🤣 really.

cerisepanther73 · 17/04/2024 17:19

Like a performing g seal 🦭

AutumnCrow · 17/04/2024 17:19

It's the fact that a woman journalist has been reduced to writing prose like this for the Express that I find 'unbearable':

'Amanda Holden pulled down the zip on her designer dress to briefly reveal a glimpse of her braless bosom, before mischievously grinning and zipping her dress back up again. The Britain's Got Talent judge is usually uncompromisingly glamorous as she prepares for each morning's Heart FM radio show, and today was no exception.'

Or maybe they get AI to write it, and attach a woman's name to it to make it seem less misogynistic and sexist. Which is of course misogynist and sexist - so I imagine we'll be seeing a lot more of it.

cerisepanther73 · 17/04/2024 17:20

Actually i have to have a re 🤔 think on that,

Sea 🌊 lions having more going for them..
