To be annoyed there are never any bras in my size?

I hate going bra shopping as they rarely seem to have any of the smaller size bras (34A/AA) and if they do it's just an odd one at the back of a rail or something.

I already feel embarrassed about my lack of boobs so doesn't help that I often walk away empty handed! I usually have to try them on as I find that I'm a different size in some shops so online isn't really an option.

Where should I shop?! AIBU to think shops should cater for smaller sizes? Fed up of feeling like a child!

@belfastjun try Bravissimo, they don’t measure, they will bring bras to try on and fit you from there, you know when you are wearing the right one, and the fitter will check it’s a good fit. Makes a huge difference to your shape when you are wearing a well fitted bra. And I bet the size you think you are, will change, mine did!

stayathomer · 15/04/2024 07:47

EBearhug
ah that was awful of them to say. Hugs x

stayathomer · 15/04/2024 07:48

Ps don’t know if la senza is in the uk, when they were in Ireland they served me well with pretty bras!!! So sad when they left

greengreyblue · 15/04/2024 07:49

Are bras subject to vat? They’re so expensive. Surely if they are that should be changed as the tampon tax did.

Hello twin! Impossible to find them in this size.

Yup... and for me it's closer to 38AA or 38AAA....
I will admit that I gave up a l9ng time ago and wear the padded bra tops from Primark that come as a 3 pack for £12.
Bra fitter tried to convince me that a 34A would be fine.... 🙄🤔 .... I could barely breathe and was so uncomfortable

Interesting! I was measured at M&S. Not sure which places are recommend for accurate measurements?

Can I suggest you go to a decent lingerie shop and be properly fitted? M and S were sadly little help the last time I went looking. An independent shop will measure and size you properly. I've worn 34 A all my adult life (size 12, small boobs) but am in fact a 32B as suggested above but only in some styles. Annoying but true. Now I keep a record and order on line when I need a new bra.

To get a rough idea you could measure under tour bust fairly tightly and that would give your back size. Measure around the fullest part of your bust and the difference between the 2 measurements will give a cup size. E.g. 1 inch = A , 2 inches = B, etc

This thread has been a real eye opener! I've worn 36A for years and am around a size 10 (sometimes 8). Just measured myself and I'm a shade over 32 inches under the bust and around 37 at the fullest. I think I'll go bra shopping on my day off this week!

BirthdayRainbow · 15/04/2024 07:57

I feel the same but I'm an F or G cup. When I mentioned to the assistant there were no bras in my size she said "we can't stock every size". I was incredulous. It has a huge department. Why the fuck not?!

M and s are shite. Honestly please visit anywhere else
I'm 32J now. M and s tried to put me in a 38 bra. Bravissimo all the way but they're more for larger cup sizes. I bet you're not the size m and s said.

If you are a size 10 you're probably 32 back.

I feel like I need a day where I can just go shopping, get fitted and try on different ones until I find the right fit. I also need to sort myself out with some new clothes and find a pair of jeans that actually fit me! I always have my little one with me though so it's so hard to find time.

I am pretty flat chested, but in my bra buying days I went to bravissimo. The had me as a 30 d. I was thrilled to be a d cup 😂. I actually preferred to wear a 32cnas it was less restricted round the rib cage.
one of my daughters eventually went to be fitted there. She has much bigger boobs than me( not hard) . I convinced her there would be no measuring involved. She is thrilled and is spending ( imo) perhaps too much money there!

Lota · 15/04/2024 08:23

I’m using Pepper and get them shipped over from the US. After 30 years, I finally feel good in a bra. No gaping and actually comfortable to wear.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 15/04/2024 08:46

I don't know why bra manufacturers stick to the 'middle sizes'. Anyone with a small back/big boob or big back/small boob is completely ignored!

In every pop up advert for bras there are teams and teams of comments for women asking for better sizing... followed by the 'response' from the advertiser 'we'll pass your comments to the team'... but of course nothing ever happens.

The latest trend for soft bralettes sounds great, but again... nothing for any sizes except 'the middle'. Lemonade I'm looking at you! (Plus... all the adverts show young models with pert boobs. They are going to regret those unsupportive bralettes when they get older...)

BirthdayRainbow · 15/04/2024 08:48

I came on to say I'm always measured as 34 underneath but feel I'd never be able to breathe in that size. I have asthma so feel conscious of that. Pre kids I was 32DD. I have been wearing 36G as my boobs are full. Last month I was in AS and the lovely lady said I was small across the back which was a surprise as I'm sure I'm overweight.

Now the shock. I just measured underneath and I'm 32. Across boobs I'm 37. Now I have no idea what bra to get! I have lost some weight but can't believe 4inches worth.

BirthdayRainbow · 15/04/2024 08:52

Near enough snap @TruffleSnuffle ! Lmk how you get on.

at least you can wear bralettes, crop tops or nothing(ohh how i would love to wear nothing)

i(and many others) don't have that option

try being a 42N cup(natural no surgery)
i own 1 bra
that ive had for years and i had to get that specially made from America

im not a "fat" person either just have massive boobs

i was a C cup at 9 and by 13 a G
by early 20s a J and it was my second baby in 2010 that did it he was a giant baby(29 inches and 11lb11oz) and i went massive in pregnancy went to P cup and been a N cup ever since

no amount of weigh loss does any difference and NHS wont help with reduction as it dont cause enough medical problems

Here
She's really helpful if you email her too with measurements
Prices are polish zloty

Am I the only one who actually hates any sort of wired bra, even if it is the correct measurement? I have to wear non-wired and non-padded, and it's getting harder and harder to find decently constructed bras without these things - BHS was my 'go to', but those are all sadly fallen apart now and BHS is no more. We don't live near a lot of shops but I often end up in Primark underwear section when we are near one - they probably cater for the smaller sizes better (sorry ladies with smaller back measurements but bigger cups), so if you are quite flat it's worth a look.
I do realise it is important to get measured too though, so please don't shoot me down in flames for mentioning a place that doesn't measure!

Spencer0220 · 15/04/2024 09:10

This thread has given me the confidence to try bras again.

Just have to get my husband to help me measure now. I wouldn't go in store because of my disabilities, I'd much prefer to try at home.

I'm big chested and so uncomfortable in sports bras.

BobnLen · 15/04/2024 09:15

I just measured because I always have a job getting bras the right size, I measured just under 35 under bust and 38 over, bras are a mixture of 34c and d, 34 d is probably best fit but a bit tight so I use a bra extender so not to waste the bras, 36b is comfortable but slightly small in the cup, I think 36c will be too big though as I seem between sizes. I am tall and big boned, size 14, 70kg, hence the quite large underbust measurement.

Hedgehoghairy · 15/04/2024 09:16

KeinLiebeslied54321 - I am the same and M & S have some very comfy ones at the moment. I like the Flexifit nonwired minimisers - now I am wearing the right size they are great. Just don't get M&S to measure you!

Although having just read how to do it, I'm not sure it's going to work. I don't have any kind of bra other than a flimsy sports bra I got from eBay

Opposite end of the spectrum (40C) but admit there have definitely been an increase in larger sizes in the last few years, before it was harder to find anything above 38, and if you did it jumped to 40DD or something.
Now don't get me started about size 43 (9) shoes!

Your back measurement was 34 inches when you were 14 years old and then it was still 34 inches at 27?

Get thee a measuring tape!

It was, yeah. I was already my adult height and development level by age thirteen or so, and until I got pregnant, I weighed pretty much the same for thirteen years. I could still wear trousers from freshman year of high school (age fourteen) when I was in law school. I had a custom-made wedding dress at 26, so I definitely had a measuring tape.

And now I’m overweight.
