Do you have a Sunday night routine that sets you up for the week?

Do you have any routines on Sundays or Sunday nights that sets you up well for the week? I’m not a fan of Mondays and would love to wake up feeling more refreshed and less stressed for the week ahead!

OP posts:

Really boring stuff - batch cook something for the DC’s lunch boxes (pitta pizzas, pinwheels etc), ironing DS’s school
shirts, showers and hair washes. Not fun but starts the week as we mean to go on.

orangeleopard · 14/04/2024 16:47

I do my cleaning every Sunday and change bedding every Sunday - it makes me feel so much better with a clean home and bed. Also prep vitamins for the week and write on my whiteboard what’s going on for the upcoming week. I also write a mini list of things I need to do such as phone calls. It just makes it easier that when it comes to down to doing it that it’s all there. I love being prepared for the upcoming week and it leaves less to do during the week.

Cry quietly into my pillow while I contemplate another week of the grind?

MidnightPatrol · 14/04/2024 16:56

No.

I feel like Monday-Friday are routine from the moment I wake up until I go to bed, so creating more routine at the weekend is not desirable.

My parents and in-laws all keep hinting st a weekly Sunday FaceTime / zoom with the kids and I just can’t bear the thought of a scheduled Sunday activity, even if I appreciate why they want to do it.

Beatrixslobber · 14/04/2024 17:02

Only in that I write my plan for the week eg where I need to be and what I need to take plus any goals for the week (for home and work), pack my work bag and gym bag and lay my clothes out ready for the morning.

I don’t have young children so obviously it’s much easier. I also love my job and don’t mind Mondays so I’m probably not what you were looking for! 😂

This.

I do a quick Hoover through after dinner and do a deep condition of my hair plus a face mask. Bit random but makes me feel on top of a couple of things I don’t have time to do during the week.

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 14/04/2024 17:06

I moved to a shift working pattern and whilst that comes with its own challenges I love that I don't get the Sunday night back on the hamster wheel dread anymore before Monday. Unless my days off naturally end on a Sunday that is.

Candyfloss99 · 14/04/2024 17:06

I go out for a long walk in the forest or to the beach to reset.

fieldsofbutterflies · 14/04/2024 17:09

I don't have DC but I have a "Thursday routine" that I do every week that sets me up for the weekend. It means when I finish on Friday (half day) I have the entire weekend free to do whatever I fancy.

I get the food shop delivered at the same time every week and give the fridge/cupboards a quick clean/sort. I vacuum/sweep the house, clean the bathroom and get all my laundry done. Then on Fridays, I strip the bed and wash the sheets, put them back on after work and have what I call an "everything shower".

Then by 1pm, I'm done with everything except the daily jobs and I know I have 2.5 days to just do whatever I want. It also means by Sunday night I've had a really nice few days and don't feel stressed or worried about work.

DailyMailHater · 14/04/2024 17:10

We try and make sure that we are up to date on housework and life admin, ensure meals are planned and shopping done and I also look out my clothes for the week - this is normally done over Saturday and Sunday so it isn’t a massive list of things to do on a Sunday,

then I make sure I have some time on a Sunday for me/self care - walk on seafront, read my book, bath and skin care etc before settling down for the evening - Sunday evenings very chilled out just to try and relax before the week starts

goingdownfighting · 14/04/2024 17:10

Yes we do and it gets us in the frame of mind for the week. Mostly during term time.

During dinner we go through the next week. Who's doing what, when and who is doing drop offs and pick ups. Then we figure out the weeks menu from that.

Then I amend the weekly online shop while DH and the kids clear the kitchen.

Kids sort their bags and kits for the week, and do last minute homework while I do the ironing.
Then early bedtime.

We've just fallen into this routine but do notice if we don't do it.

LyndaSnellsSniff · 14/04/2024 17:14

Mostly, I just wind myself up into a whirling dervish of anxiety, panic and worry whilst looking forward to the inevitable sleepless night.

Gotta the menopause.

Sorry OP. Feeling sorry for myself as it's first day back after hols tomorrow.

decionsdecisions62 · 14/04/2024 17:17

I honestly don't treat it as anything special and I don't ever think about Monday morning until I wake up on Monday morning. I'm quite fortunate in terms of that.

Whattodo121 · 14/04/2024 17:20

Make sure all the washing is done and put out uniform and clothes for the morning. After dinner I’ll go upstairs and remake the beds, put all the washing away, have a shower and wash my hair and get into clean pjs whilst DH tidies up, puts the bins out and takes the dog for a walk. Then he brings cups of tea up and we read/chat/potter whilst DS has a bath and we all go to bed nice and early.

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 14/04/2024 17:20

I do the food shopping on a Sunday so I'm ready for the week. Then it's iron uniforms, baths and hair washing, make pack lunches and relax. I find doing that starts the week off okish 🤣

Whattodo121 · 14/04/2024 17:21

I am lucky that even though my job is really stressful (teacher) and it’s the first day back after the holidays I don’t really get Sunday night nerves. I really don’t like being busy on a Sunday though, I try and keep it as a clear day.

CranfordScones · 14/04/2024 17:26

Contemplate the meaningless nature of work, the futility of the hedonic treadmill and the melancholia induced by my existential despair.

Then read a good book.

😂🥴

LuisCarol · 14/04/2024 17:33

I play underwater hockey to distract myself from looming Mondays.

Thepeopleversuswork · 14/04/2024 17:34

I usually have to work on Sunday evening to catch up on stuff I haven’t had time to do in the week.

Thethruththewholetruth · 14/04/2024 17:51

I get all my jobs done on Thursday night, change beds, meal plan, clean the house, DH does the ironing and helps clean etc and then we know when we get home on Friday night we have done everything and can relax and do as we please, feels so much nicer. Don’t love Thursday evenings but it’s worth it for a more relaxed weekend. Still get work dread but that’s mainly as I hate my job at the moment.

rainbowbee · 14/04/2024 18:55

Ideally I meal plan and do the food shop on a Sunday. I'd also have a hair wash plus night. It's not always perfect.

ohpumpkinseeds · 14/04/2024 19:01

Yes, it's essential to how our household runs! Food shop arrives Sunday morning so I put that away and usually prep Sunday nights dinner at the same time (we don't usually have a roast, but something "homely" like cottage pie or lasagne or pie). DH strips all the beds. Get the kids clothes ready for the week, and any ad hoc things we might need for that specific weeks. Make sure all washing is put away, rooms are tidy etc.

Then we go about our day whatever we have planned. After dinner while DH gives the kids a bath and hair wash, I do a bit of an extra tidy downstairs compared to most nights and run the hoover round etc. Takes about 30 mins.

potatoschpotato · 14/04/2024 19:28

Get a little bit drunk and have a lovely dinner, fall asleep on the sofa watching a film. Not the best advice I know but it gets the last drop of enjoyment out of the weekend!
