Do you have a Sunday night routine that sets you up for the week?

Do you have any routines on Sundays or Sunday nights that sets you up well for the week? I’m not a fan of Mondays and would love to wake up feeling more refreshed and less stressed for the week ahead!

Like a few other PP I’ve done it the opposite way and use the week to set up my weekend- so jobs/cleaning/chores done and then I’m out and about and it feels like more of a break at the weekend. I also made a firm commitment to stop catching up on work at the weekends (from Jan) and these two things have been transformational.

wash Ds2’s hair (happens twice a week)

whilst Ds2 is in the bath, I file my nails, put hand cream and clear nail varnish on

we all watch something on tv together 8-9pm

before that, I do a big tidy up, vacuum through the downstairs (this takes 6 minutes as that’s the length of the extended run Dyson), do lunchbox for the following day

and then when we’ve watched the programme 8-9pm, the children go to bed and I sit down straightaway rather than potter and faff

No DC

I like to do a big clean, batch cook, prep for lunches for the week and have an "everything" shower Grin
Try to exercise too as I know it helps me sleep

I didn't need to batch cook today so I did
Egg mayo for lunches
Chopped up salad stuff
Cleaned everything
Laundry
Changed bedding
Exercised
Had a bath, shaved legs, washed hair

We have a few staple things most Sundays when kids are in school (I have 3 DC, all primary age)

Homework finished, showers, school uniforms ironed, cat litter trays changed (also changed fully mid week and any nasties cleaned out as and when), rubbish and recycling put out front, food shopping delivered.

Of course we sometimes have plans on Sunday's so not all jobs get done.

I never feel organised or on top of things though. Monday's (and mornings in general) are still pretty full on.

Check which days DH is away/at home
Meal plan and shop
Book exercise classes for the week
Have a look at the week ahead work wise
Hassle DD to get semi organised for her week ahead

I just get miserable from about 4pm. Today however, inspired by this thread I made a cake and have changed my bed so at least my sleep will be in a nice clean bed

I’m of an age where the Antique Roadshow theme gives me some kind of Pavlovian reaction and I must have a bath.

ManyManyBiscuits · 14/04/2024 21:21

I go to Hot Yoga and do a relaxing, stretchy class.

Get stuff for the kids' packed lunches and hoover the house and clean bathroom. Makes me feel half organised and ready for Monday.

MyOtherHusbandIsAWash · 14/04/2024 21:26

I don’t do it any more due to location and kids but we used to do pub quiz at our lovely local pub with friends. Sunday was gourmet burger n quiz, and it was lots of fun! Anything fun I think is helpful, preferably out of the house if feasible.

EmpressSoleil · 14/04/2024 21:28

Not helpful I know, but for me this is absolutely one of the best things about wfh. No Sunday evening dread!

When I used to work in a office, Sundays tended to be filled with housework and sorting myself out for the week ahead. It never felt like a day off.

Had I been more organised, and less knackered, I think it would have been better to try and get all that stuff done on a Saturday morning and have the rest of the wkend free but I never managed it.

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 14/04/2024 21:31

My 12yo does what she calls a Sunday reset & everything shower. Basically tidying her room then shower and all the bits.

Given she is possible adhd and very disorganised and messy I'm very grateful to tik tok for making this a thing!

silentpool · 14/04/2024 22:24

I do some meal prep and make some things that will be building blocks for quick meals during the week, such as roasted veg, salad dressings etc. I try to WFH on a Mon to make it less painful though.

Used to do a big weekly shop on Sundays but work nearer a cheaper supermarket so do that after work on Mondays now.

I hate Sundays, all of the inevitable happens

Have a roast in a pub somewhere
Wave dp off for the week. He works away during the week

Do some light chores still full of lovely yorkies for anything too strenuous

Have a long bath with a g&t

Later on in the evening have a light supper of olives , cheese and ham.

Basically this happens 😁

Motherrr · 14/04/2024 22:57

Before kids we used to have a glass of wine whilst cooking dinner which made it feel less sunday-evening-ish (that feeling when you know Monday is looming) and more like friday/sat night

But now... Read messages, do house jobs, go to bed and hope for an uninterrupted night of sleep 😴😄

Cherrysoup · 14/04/2024 22:59

Do packed lunches, bath, set out clothes for the morning. A bath is my go to to set up/get rid of the week before.
