Messy neighbours

Hi need to rant….Where we live we have a shared entrance and stairway with neighbours then our entrance doors are opposite each other there is a small square of hallway between us. I have an issue that the neighbours clutter the hallway and stairs with all their crap . On the small square hallway they have one of those builders buckets filled with crap like dirty shoes umbrellas etc they also have a scooter, tent , more umbrellas, jump start kit which hardly leaves any room when we come out of the door .Then going up the stairs they have about 6 sets of dirty shoes covered in mud. To add insult they have added a thick folded up gymnastics matt at the bottom which slightly blocks you getting out the main door but it’s doable. Now ive had so many polite conversations leading to arguments with her about this told her its a fire hazard/ health and safety not to mention it looks so trampy it’s embarrassing when i have visitors it cant even be cleaned properly it makes me so angry its the entrance to my home. She won’t listen i don’t know what else to do.

Fire brigade came out and after 2 days hallway clear🎉🎉🎉🎉

Yay! Hopefully, they've now got the message.

WonderingWanda · 05/05/2024 20:25

Take it all to the charity shop, if she wants to prevent it being stolen she can keep it inside her flat.

Londonrach1 · 05/05/2024 20:28

Contact the fire department and ask for a building inspection...contact the management company and ask them to carry out a fire risk on the communal areas...

Hartley99 · 05/05/2024 23:23

I sympathise. But it’s much worse to have a noisy neighbour. Right now I can hear the screeching and backfiring of my idiot neighbour’s car. He has one of those cars with a modified exhaust, so it sounds like fireworks going off when he revs the engine. At least you can escape the mess. I can’t escape his noise.

Yay. Well done for seeing this through. Selfish people should be accountable for their selfish actions!

Ridiculous. Sounds like at this point she's doing it purposely to wind you up!

she definitely is but they have wrote to her as a warning and they came and took photos too. She can end up with a fine for breaking the lease terms and conditions

Good I hope she does get fined.

She actually could have her flat repossessed for breaching the covenants in the lease (although this would usually be for more extreme behaviour than this)!

Definitely pop into your local fire station, perhaps with a tin of biscuits, and have a concerned needing advice kind of chat.

Is this Pontypandy?? Ffs 🤣

Shoes have started to appear back on the stairs she must be so thick as to not understand what the fire officer said 😡

Pick them up and throw them outside. Every time.

OutlawZeroHours · 18/05/2024 08:49

Tbh I think a bucket for umbrellas, muddy boots etc is quite a good idea by the door. The muddy shoes - could they fit those slim plastic IKEA shoe drawer things up the wall and keep them there instead? Maybe if they just organise their stuff better you could compromise? Having lived many moons ago in a first floor flat with no storage or outside space beyond a 3 foot by 1 foot balconette, I can appreciate that it would be nice to have places to keep these things.

But if you really can't stand it and they won't respond to requests to clear it why don't you also start leaving stuff in the "square"? The stairs pretty much are their busines. Then when they complain say "what if we both agree to keep the area clear?"
Out of interest who decorates / cleans the area? What does it say in the lease? Can you demarcate your bit through different rugs, painting the walls etc?

Nothing should be left. It probably says that in the lease, it does in mine
I can't leave a wet umbrella on my door handle let alone a shoe drawer

It all becomes obstacles in a dark smoky situation of a fire

we are not allowed anything on the landing or stairs and whats on the stairs affects us as we share the stairs and they have stuff all up the stairs. They have had 2 visits and a letter from the fire brigade now and it will be taken further if they dont clear it.
