Hi need to rant….Where we live we have a shared entrance and stairway with neighbours then our entrance doors are opposite each other there is a small square of hallway between us. I have an issue that the neighbours clutter the hallway and stairs with all their crap . On the small square hallway they have one of those builders buckets filled with crap like dirty shoes umbrellas etc they also have a scooter, tent , more umbrellas, jump start kit which hardly leaves any room when we come out of the door .Then going up the stairs they have about 6 sets of dirty shoes covered in mud. To add insult they have added a thick folded up gymnastics matt at the bottom which slightly blocks you getting out the main door but it’s doable. Now ive had so many polite conversations leading to arguments with her about this told her its a fire hazard/ health and safety not to mention it looks so trampy it’s embarrassing when i have visitors it cant even be cleaned properly it makes me so angry its the entrance to my home. She won’t listen i don’t know what else to do.

That's good. At least you've got that to look forward to

I think she thinks as they own and we rent they can do whatever the hell they want to do .

Yep, I knew she was one of those.

I hate those people. My neighbour's think that rather than it being first come first served, they are entitled to more space to park their four cars than we are because they own and we rent. We all pay the same bloody council tax, so piss off.

If the block is council is your landlord illegally sub letting to you?

What time do you finish work? We need an update after you've torn her a new one for shutting the door on your son

user1471538283 · 15/04/2024 18:40

As others have said this is a serious fire risk and you need support for it to be resolved asap. Even if she owns her apartment she doesn't own the communal areas. When I rented a ground floor apartment I made a point of leaving nothing outside as we all had to get in and out.

Locking your son out is unacceptable. Whatever her imaginary issues with you he's a child and vulnerable.

Honestly I don't know what's wrong with some people.

I was so angry i called the local fire brigade and they asked for pictures and are going to carry out a “spot check “ on local flats with communal areas. She’s an absolute idiot .

Ask fire brigade to come out and do a fire safety check of hallway and talk to your neighbours

Are you both opposite each other on the first floor or ground floor ? I would throw all the shoes off the stairs blocking her door
Failing that you could put itching powder in the shoes !

Ourlittletalks · 15/04/2024 19:08

OP, I urge you to contact your local fire brigade. As someone who was in a similar situation last year (we had 4 entrances at the top of an outdoor concrete stairs, and the neighbour to my left would leave all of her shoes/coal bucket/coal/sticks/ kids toys etc along the steps. Asked her to move them several times and she ignored the request), we actually had a house fire. What should have been an easy escape (straight out the door and down the stairs) turned into an obstacle course with two adults, a toddler, and our dog. We were rushing so much that my partner at the time tripped on the steps outside, and when the fire brigade arrived they kicked all of her belongings down the stairs because it was taking so long for them to walk around all of the items. What wasn’t ruined by being dropped down 20+ steps was destroyed by the aftermath of the fire so she learned her lesson but it could have ended much worse.

love this idea!! Laughed out loud and woke the dog up!👏👏

Go for it, OP, she sounds nuts and entitled, you must be wishing your days away, to get away from them!
If she does clear the crap and then it creeps back - most likely it will- remember all these great ideas and do them ALL as your goodbye present to her!!
Horrible witch😡

1st floor opposite each other they take up practically that whole space .

Doone22 · 15/04/2024 20:03

There will either be a service company or a freeholder to whom you all pay maintenance or services or ground rent. It's their legal responsibility.

They definitely exist.
The landlord must know who bit is as well they're just being lazy.

JoBoJoBo · 15/04/2024 22:54

Butterfly212 · 15/04/2024 19:28

You could put up a low expandable fence and divide the area between the flats. That way you get your own area. Also open the window when there is a storm and let the rain in on the crap lol.

Report it to your factor its a fire risk ours would letter then remove anything not cleared.

Volpini · 16/04/2024 07:34

Butterfly212 · 12/04/2024 14:59

Amazing thank you

When it comes down to it, even though she owns her flat, her rights regarding the communal areas are not very much different to yours.
i know this as I once owned a leasehold flat in a large communal building with no managing company… it was a nightmare and I definitely lived with other people in that building who were scruffy scumbags so I hear you. It seems like there is a managing company in this situation so - as they probably charge a lot for doing bugger all - I would def be on them like a car bonnet.

Your landlord should also be doing something about this. I can tell you with absolute certainty that the leasehold agreement will state that leaseholders should not store items in the communal area. Take pictures and send them to him stating that it’s making the building unsafe/ fire hazard/ unsightly, also.

OldMM · 16/04/2024 16:02

Report to the Fire Safety Officer in Fire Service.

kitsuneghost · 16/04/2024 16:06

pile it all up in front of her entrance door
and repeat until she gets the message

Whatifthehokeycokey · 16/04/2024 16:29

Owning the flat makes no difference. She owns the flat as a leasehold, she doesn't own the building 😬.
