We are going to Gran Canaria in just under two weeks and i have checked the weather it's showing between 24 degrees and 26 degrees only
This week it's high 30s and I'm gutted
I can't help but feel a bit sad now that we have missed the red hot weather.
I tried explaining to partner how I feel but he thinks I'm being stupid and ridiculous
Which I probably am
I'm in Newcastle now and it's like 8 degrees and raining
I just love when it's red hot
Aibu ?

Weather forecasts are taken in the shade (this is true, I'm married to a climate scientist who knows these things!). If it says 26, it'll be closer to 30 degrees in the sun. Sounds perfect to me. High 30s is uncomfortable (in my opinion).

poppym12 · 09/04/2024 17:37

😂 maybe you'll have to join the locals in the puffa jacket and scarf wearing.

Seriously, mid 20s is perfect in the Canaries. The strength of the sun will make it feel hot, UV index will be very high most days. I find that when there are rogue temperatures like 30+ it's usually caused by a calima - I don't find that pleasant at all.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 09/04/2024 18:41

You may not mean to sound ungrateful OP but come on. 2 holidays abroad in warm - hot not cool weather when loads of people can't even afford a holiday in this country makes you sound very ungrateful. Try thinking about the positive position you are in instead of moaning

Whiskers4 · 09/04/2024 18:46

For us that'd be a perfect temperature. Warm enough to potter around/sunbathe without getting too burnt or frazzled. Seriously, you're really lucky to be going to Gran Canaria, look forward to and enjoy.

shuffleofftobuffalo · 09/04/2024 18:50

I'm away at the moment and it's been between 21 and 26, bloody lovely getaway from the terrible cold crappy rain at home. It's not rained at all. One day it was windy and it was a lovely warm wind. You'll have a lovely time!

It's too early in the season at the moment to guarantee the red hot weather though.

Rhodes will still be hot in September.

Favouritefruits · 09/04/2024 18:52

24-26 is an average temperature for April/may if you wanted hotter why didn’t you book for August? 24-26 is lovely and warm

MiltonNorthern · 09/04/2024 18:59

YABU!!!
I was there last week and it was beautiful and perfect weather. I thought you were going to say it was raining!!

HanaJane · 09/04/2024 19:05

Lots of people would happily go in your place OP! Try to think of the positives, the weather will be lovely compared to the UK and it won't be too hot to walk around

Ace56 · 09/04/2024 19:07

Always a bit of a risk to go in April. Sorry, but if you wanted guaranteed scorching weather you should have gone in July/August. It’ll be nicer than the UK anyway!

TiberiusFlam · 09/04/2024 19:08

Honestly this has happened to me so many times. I’ve been this close to cancelling holidays because the weather looked shit.
They’ve all been fabulous and I’ve had a great time. A rainy Cornish holiday is one of the best we’ve had as a family.
Slovenia in the freezing cold and driving rain last year was a bit shit, but we still had fun.
Just stop looking at the weather and go and enjoy.
I will also try and take my own advice later this year!

Bjorkdidit · 09/04/2024 19:16

YABU to be fretting about a weather forecast 2 weeks in advance, it's just not accurate and could change a dozen times between now and then.

We were in Gran Canaria about a month ago. Weather apps said 21 to 23 but it was roasting and gloriously sunny. I swam in the sea nearly every day. I wasn't even cold when sitting outside restaurants on an evening like I normally am.

Just be glad you weren't going a couple of weeks ago. Both the Canaries and Andalucia had massive storms, now that would be gutting.

Has anyone been to Rhodes beginning of September ? What's the weather like ?
We have booked there and are now worrying it's going to be cool

You can google what the average weather has been previously to get a guide.

Sunnnybunny72 · 09/04/2024 19:18

We went two weeks ago. It was mid twenties. Glorious.

Exactly this.

Tangled123 · 09/04/2024 20:12

@pritchartcc we went to Rhodes last September. It was 30ish degrees but windy where we were beside the old town. We did a day trip down the west coast to Lindos and it was very hot and not windy.
