Afternoon tea is a rip off largely aimed at ripping women off

Somebody suggested this to me and I’ve never thought of it that way.

You don’t get very men going for afternoon tea do you? The Mark up on afternoon tea is absolutely enormous aside from staffing and cost of the building and stuff- it must be money for old rope for the businesses concerned. Specially the ones that charge over 50 quid ahead.

Are we being conned by the whole afternoon tea debacle?

(yes cake is nice I get that)

@ShadesofPoachedSmoke I hear the royals are opening up Bakmoral for £150 for afternoon tea, the cheeky fuckers 😂

It's £100.00 to tour and then £40.00 extra if you want afternoon tea.

Absolutely wouldn't pay for the tour but would have a go at the afternoon tea. £40.00 is less than you pay in some hotels in London and well this is Balmoral. I imagine you can only get tea if you've done the tour though😂.

Perhaps they've seen the writing on the wall and realise they have to fund themselves a bit more and reduce what the tax payer pays - there's enough threads on here about how much they cost us

@Iwanttobeagranny what do you get for £10 a head please?
Sounds more like a cream tea than a full afternoon tea for that price surely?
If it's any good, I might pop along Smile

You get a pot of tea or Americano, classic sandwich selection, fruit or Devon scone, jam, clotted cream and fresh strawberries, a macaron, a mini cupcake and a palmier. You can also have Prosecco for an extra charge. Honestly, it’s really nice for the price 🥰

Just for you guys I photographed my gentleman's afternoon tea. Started with a sherbet lemon cocktail. Then enjoyed tomato soup, smoked mackerel pate with sourdough. Then Welsh rarebit, sausage roll, spring rolls. I fell at the sandwich gate only managing the coronation chicken.

In South Asia we have a strong but slightly modified afternoon tea tradition. Hot savouries such as samosas/kebabs/savoury pastries/toasted sandwiches that maybe a asianified and then something sweet with copious amounts proper looseleaf tea. in Bangladesh we call it nashta
