4

Cluborange666 · 06/04/2024 12:25

4-5 but good at literacy.

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 06/04/2024 12:26

@SoupDragon my previous point on dyslexia is that this could also mean and older child could also have written

Yes of course younger non dyslexic children write this way.

rainbowstardrops · 06/04/2024 12:26

I've seen a lot of children's handwriting over the years and that could be anything between 3-6 I'd say. Have they copied the phrase? The spelling is better than the handwriting as that's not how it's taught in schools.

TheBeeb · 06/04/2024 12:27

Similar to my reception age child's handwriting so I'd say 4/5

BobbyBiscuits · 06/04/2024 12:27

It really depends on the education they've had. I knew kids who were really advanced in other ways but their writing wasn't far off that aged 10. They had been at a Steiner school.
I've seen kids of 4 write cursive. I Wasn't taught how to 'write' at primary school, I did learn it organically, where I wanted to write cursive. But that was aged 10. Before that my writing style was quite infantile because my school didn't focus on that type of learning. The content was what was considered more important.
Ive seen 3 yo and 10yo write similar to this...

fiddleleaffig · 06/04/2024 12:27

Key stage 1 so anywhere from 4 to 7 depending on the child. Writing looks younger but spelling is all correct so I wouldn't say preschool (especially the word "see you" as they aren't phonetically spelt so tricky for reception children)

Notmyuser · 06/04/2024 12:27

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 06/04/2024 12:19

@Notmyuser

Doesn’t look dyslexic to me

It looks very like my dyslexic child's writing.

How old is your dyslexic child? The spelling is very good for a young dyslexic child.

Sidge · 06/04/2024 12:28

3-5 I think

Dacadactyl · 06/04/2024 12:28

How old is the child OP?

Cluborange666 · 06/04/2024 12:28

Reminds me of my own son who could read simple books at 2.5, never had to be taught spelling and taught himself how to write. He was writing like this before he started school. He has since been diagnosed with dyspraxia, autism and adhd (hence the early linguistic skills). He’s still bright but not at the top of his year in school and needs a lot more support than other kids his age.

missgenzmum · 06/04/2024 12:28

4-6, everything is spelled right and the only problem is the handwriting. maybe 7 or 8 if the child has dysgraphia.

Spirallingdownwards · 06/04/2024 12:30

I agree. Definitely a pre school age child who has not been taught in a school setting yet.

Westfacing · 06/04/2024 12:31

Six? That's a very nice D in Doggie!

Cbeebiesisdifferentonasaturday · 06/04/2024 12:31

Hi, thank you everyone, just reading through the replies.
My dc is 5.5, but we’re abroad and she’s in a Pre school, this looks like it accounts for the style of writing? I’ve been reluctant to practise handwriting with her as it’s taught differently where we are and I don’t want to confuse her.
I’ve been reading with her at home, she’s level 4 (Chip & Biff books) does this seem ok?
I’m a little worried she’ll be behind as they don’t start reading where we are until 6, I haven’t been pushing her, just curious if it looks okish for this age?

As above would depend if they'd copied or written completely independently and if they naturally try/enjoy writing or are reluctant so could be any age between about late 3 and 7. I work in a p1 class where dc are aged 5/6 now and most of them couldn't do that independently. We've only just got to Y in sounds and letter formation and many won't have a grasp of it yet some won't even recognise the sound , then you've got the odd one writing immaculate full sentences. Varies massively

yikesanotherbooboo · 06/04/2024 12:31

Interesting; my DD would have written like that in R and my DSes in Yr1. I agree that the letter formation is a bit odd but I suppose it would depend on how they had been taught. None of mine practised writing before school .

She will catch up when she gets to school I wouldn't worry.

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 06/04/2024 12:32

I think this is going to be a stealth boast, I agree with PPs I don't think this child has been taught via a structured phonics/handwriting system, the letter formation doesn't follow the usual rules and there is a mix of upper and lower case DoGGy etc , so I'm sure OP will be back to tell us this is her self taught 18 months old

space99 · 06/04/2024 12:33

I would say 4

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 06/04/2024 12:33

Cross post, that makes sense OP her spelling is good if you want her to learn cursive look at CGP or read write inc support materials for get to prescribe handwriting at home

happyasharry · 06/04/2024 12:34

About 5.

Far better than my 4 year old would manage.
My 6 year old writes a lot better than this

funinthesun19 · 06/04/2024 12:34

4/5. Looks a lot like my 5 year old DD’s writing.

You aren’t going to get accurate answers I’m afraid. You can only compare what she is doing with what she has been taught.

My only concern would be if you moved back home.
