28 and full on wetting myself daily - help!

NC for this because very embarrassing!

I’m 28, and ever since having my son in 2020 my health has gone so, so downhill I feel like my body is completely breaking down.

Have always been a healthy 10-12, 12 at a max. Always worked from home and never been one to go to the gym. 4 years on from my son I am now a size 28 diagnosed with PCOS, pre-diabetic. I’ve lost every ounce of confidence I had and am now looking at weight loss surgery (private, not NHS).

Anyway, for the last week I have been wetting myself daily. Not just a little bit but full on, heavy urination.

I’ll get a slight need to go, and all of a sudden it will become urgent and even crossing my legs won’t stop it while I try to waddle to the bathroom.

Today, it happened just as I was walking back into my house, in broad daylight, in my drive. Dripping through my leggings into my shoes. I don’t think anyone saw but it’s absolutely mortifying and I’m losing my dignity.

I’ve called the GP today but can’t get an appointment until Thursday, so for now I’m just sat here worrying and feeling upset and disgusted.

I’m just wondering if this has happened to anyone before and/or had any advice. Can’t believe this is my body at 28.

UTI??

isthewashingdryyet · 02/04/2024 19:57

Sugar levels too high ? Weeing a lot is a sign of diabetes, so this could be a reason.

bless you, it sounds really horrid

Primefungus · 02/04/2024 20:02

For a start get big pads to give you some security. Then start a diary of when it happens and what you have had to drink that day. That might give you some clue and will be helpful if it need further investigations by continence team.

GP will probably want to see if a uti so if you can take a fresh wee sample when you visit then they can dip it then and there.

Good luck

mondaytosunday · 02/04/2024 20:16

I find the heavier I am the more I can't 'hold it'. I think it is a weight issue.

JPGR · 02/04/2024 21:43

Poor you. Try and preempt it by going regularly. I find it’s a mental thing. As soon as I think about it - my bladder takes over.

ExtraOnions · 02/04/2024 21:46

I had a UTI like this once .. it was horrible. I’d never peed myself before, I thought I had become incontinent. My sample needed to be sent off to be cultured, so the right anti-biotic could be found. Odd thing was that I didn’t have any of the other symptoms of a UTI

Rainbowx · 02/04/2024 21:50

I've had this before was a UTI suffer regularly now under hospital and made diet changes/drink no caffeine more water etc

MiniMaxi · 02/04/2024 21:59

Can be caused by ovarian cysts too - speak to your GP

TheShellBeach · 02/04/2024 22:00

.

mitogoshi · 02/04/2024 22:01

In the meantime modibodi have incontinence reusables and they were on sale at the weekend at least

Professionalmess · 02/04/2024 22:02

Whilst all the above posters are heading down potentially correct routes, obesity can trigger incontinence too. (As a bigger girl myself, I know how shit it is to constantly have ever health concerns attributed to weight, but it's true). I hope it's an easier fix such as a UTI. X

Hankunamatata · 02/04/2024 22:03

Firstly tena pants or pads in short term. They are amazing. Get full mot from GP. It could be diabetes, uti, sadly being very overweight can cause incontinence in some people etc

Hankunamatata · 02/04/2024 22:07

PCOS are often insulin resistant and rethink of foods can help

thebear1 · 02/04/2024 22:11

I've experienced similar but not daily. My GP has put me on medication and referred me to urology. I'm the meantime buy some pads or reusable ones.

scaredofff · 02/04/2024 22:14

You're not alone. I just turned 30 and in the last 6 months it has happened to me 4 times. Each time I've had a pee before setting off on a 18 minute car journey home from my mums, gotten out and felt a sudden urge and not made it further than the front door. Most recently a fortnight ago
No answers just want you to know you are not the only one

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 02/04/2024 22:18

I have a big chocolate cyst on my ovary and whilst I don’t wet myself I do feel the urge frequently and urgently. I do drink loads of water though.

Spidey66 · 02/04/2024 22:24

I've got an overactive bladder. I'm overweight too!

My GP tried some meds before Christmas, can't remember the name off the top of my head (sorry!) They helped but knocked me out. It was changed to the patch version, which had no effect, good or bad!

Before I went back to the GP again by chance i saw a thread here (will see if i can find it)which suggested an antihistamine. Any one that suits, basically, but the ones you can get cheaply otc in pound shops etc. I was a bit sceptical but thought I'd try it and yeah, while it's not 100% improved its about 95% better.

SkaneTos · 02/04/2024 22:25

You need to get an answer from the GP, of course, but in the meantime, get some big absorbent pads!

Spidey66 · 02/04/2024 22:32

Sorry I cant find the thread :(

CharlotteBog · 02/04/2024 23:51

That's a great deal of weight to put on in 4 years. Do you think it's just down to over eating or might there be something else going on?

ladyofshertonabbas · 02/04/2024 23:55

Yes I have had this. Dr told me to give up caffeine. I didn’t believe him. It was true though. Caffeine stimulates the bladder.
the NHS squeezy app takes you through daily exercise.
is there a psychological aspect? Eg nearing home, body thinks it can go for a wee, then you wet yourself. Been there.
but see the Dr. And do give up coffee.

Darla9 · 03/04/2024 00:00

I had this with a UTI! Wet myself at work about a metre from the toilet cubicle as I bolted towards it. Had to put on clothes out the lost and found box and go up to my bosses door to say I was feeling sick all of a sudden and I had to go home. Wet myself again in the car on the way home. I had no control over it at all. It was awful! Got antibiotics and it went back to normal thankfully

Notthatcatagain · 03/04/2024 00:13

Its very common and can be caused by a number of things but is usually treatable. In the short term buy pads rather than pants because they are much easier to change. Don't invest in washable unless you are sure it's going to be a long job, they are very expensive. Period pants are no good because they don't hold enough volume so go for the best quality bladder control pads you can afford, you might have to try a couple of brands to find the right shape for you. Always carry a spare or two and get a roll of dog waste bags to use for disposal. Ask your GP for a referral to your local continence nurse, she can probably get you some samples (although the ones I was sent were all fairy sized) you can get bed pads for extra protection at night. Tesco do an own brand which work fine and are reasonably priced.

Twolittleloves · 03/04/2024 00:27

Aww bless you- this was me in my early twenties- due to recurrent UTI's which attacked my bladder.... its absolutely horrid.I was at work caring for children and luckily there was a side toilet I would quickly have to use but sometimes I was changing their nappies and couldn't just move, so ended up wetting myself (luckily in the toilet area so nobody saw)
Often had to rush to the toilet and it was touch and go to get there in time.Sound of running water was my absolute enemy. Was scared to drink incase it made me wet myself more (although lack of fluids make UTI's worse so was a catch 22 situation)
Once wet myself sitting in my car all over the seat as I thought I could hold on but couldn't.
It's mortifying and deliberating.
Could yours be a UTI related? Sending love, I know how awful it is.
