To go to bed earlier and get up earlier

I’m looking for some advice on this. I was just putting then bins back in and I had my neighbour walk over to me, requesting we go to bed earlier as their kids arent going to bed because they are pointing out our lights in our house on late at night so using that as an excuse not to go to bed wgen asked too. They are also seeing our curtains closed sometimes like today as its bank holiday I was in bed until 1am which I do do sometimes as im currently looking for work. I don’t want people to not be sleeping (especially kids) because of something I am doing.

Your neighbour cannot dictate what time you go to bed or open or close your curtains. They need to tell their kids that other people go to bed when they want to, and it's not up to their children. Crazy.

Watchkeys · 01/04/2024 13:51

You're not responsible for their kids' bedtimes. Unless you've got spotlights pointed at their bedroom windows, this makes no sense.

LipstickLil · 01/04/2024 13:54

Your neighbours are batshit! What time you go to bed is none of their business and if their kids are using your lights on as an excuse to stay up, it's up to them to point out to their kids that what time the neighbours go to bed is irrelevant. Do as you wish OP. Go to bed when you wish. And ignore your neighbours.

Magicisuponus · 01/04/2024 13:54

🤣 of course you don’t have to go to bed earlier because your neighbours are not able to explain to their kids that people do different things 🤣

Jimjamjaroo · 01/04/2024 13:56

Agree with pp - your neighbours are absolutely batshit!!

AGodawfulsmallaffair · 01/04/2024 13:59

Your neighbours are absolutely crazy! If I tried to tell a random person in my street what time to go to bed I’d be run out of town 😆

Hermittrismegistus · 01/04/2024 14:02

You can't seriously be considering going to bed when your neighbour tells you to? WTF

Jimjamjaroo · 01/04/2024 14:02

And what on earth has your curtains being closed in the day time got to do with anything?? I do that with mine in the summer to keep rooms cool as we've got crazy efficient insulation and we bake! I'd back off and grey rock a bit, they sound like a potential PITA.

MidnightPatrol · 01/04/2024 14:03

My neighbours have always dictated my bed times, totally normal

pootlin · 01/04/2024 14:03

Yes, I suggest you tuck up in bed at 7pm with a cup of cocoa.

Is this an April fools??

sunnyday98 · 01/04/2024 14:07

@VoiceOfCommonSense must be

Mrsjayy · 01/04/2024 14:09

My god do people actually have the brass neck to say that, bloody hell op poor you having to live next door to such passive parents.

dudsville · 01/04/2024 14:11

She's trying to parent you rather than her own children. Very weird thing to do.

dudsville · 01/04/2024 14:11

Also, beware, I'm assuming by your post that you didn't laugh and walk away, so she may think you'll consider further requests like these.

ErrolTheDragon · 01/04/2024 14:13

You're not.
If you or your kids were being noisy late into the evening (or unsociably early in the morning ) that'd be a different thing.

BeachBeerBbq · 01/04/2024 14:14

This is a joke purely because no one irl would even entertain adhering to the demands

PossumintheHouse · 01/04/2024 14:15

If my neighbours had demanded this I'd be down the shop the next day buying a multi-coloured disco ball.

StonwEd · 01/04/2024 14:18

I mean what did they say when you laughed out loud?
This isn’t real

oldperson1 · 01/04/2024 15:49

Is this an April Fool post😅

oldperson1 · 01/04/2024 15:50

Just saw pp asking sorry

Same. They also decide how we decorate the house, what we eat, when we eat, what car we buy etc. They said our people carrier was too big and an eyesore so we got a Smart car which means we can’t take all of our children out. Oh well, at least the neighbours are happy! I can’t make decisions for myself

hottchocolate · 01/04/2024 17:55

Is this a joke?

DatingDinosaur · 01/04/2024 18:32

And here was me thinking this would be a topic about the clocks changing 😂

Bootskates · 01/04/2024 18:36

You can't go to bed early now, she'll think she can dictate your life.

If she brings it up again tell her you're an adult and you'll go to bed when you please and not a minute before.
