If the child goes over you are told to shut up if you criticise the parents because 'they've suffered enough!' 🤷🏼‍♀️

Over a month ago parents had their toddler by the side of the River Soar and the child fell in and his body still hasn't been found.

Absolute madness of the parents but any criticism gets you told off!

I live on a cliff and always have the dogs on their leads out the front, so I can't understand why people would take a risk with a small child.

The cliffs are crumbling, how much help do you think a parent would be holding their toddler’s hand if there was a rockfall

That's not the point. If adults want to gamble with their own lives ambling around on a crumbling cliff, that's up to them, but what right have they got to gamble with a child's life like that?

Why in God's name isn't this area fenced off!? It is a tragedy waiting to happen

The cliff edge is miles long and the edge is dynamic as parts are falling all the time. A fence would give people a false sense of security when in fact within minutes it could change and be centimeters from the edge - or the fence could fall in completely!

crumblingschools · 30/03/2024 00:13

@takealettermsjones that’s what I am saying. Another poster was saying it’s fine because the parent is holding the child’s hand

Excited101 · 30/03/2024 00:14

I had to speak to a member of staff at a railway station after I saw the same stupid woman 2 weeks running, let her 2 year old wander around freely on the platform while she stood a couple of metres away. People are fucking stupid.

there is an awful lot of coast line in the UK, much of it dangerous cliffs. Most councils with popular public paths along the top of these cliffs manage to fence them, and maintain the fences a safe distance from the current active crumbling sites

NeverendingRabbitHole · 30/03/2024 00:15

They really, really are @Excited101

The stupidity of people never ceases to amaze me

CutthroatDruTheViolent · 30/03/2024 00:15

Reminds me of a picture of a couple with a baby in a pram walking along the prom with 30 foot high waves in terrible weather a couple of years ago.

I don't care how much you trust your toddler to not bolt, you take extra precautions at a place like this.

white chalk is quite a rare cliff type - it's very, very crumbly

Many other cliffs are much more stable so a fence will last many years.

At Beachy head it would last days or months, max

crumblingschools · 30/03/2024 00:19

I always wonder about people who let their dog off lead whilst walking along unfenced cliff tops

Because it would have to be a very long fence, which would reduce the aesthetic appeal of the place, and because it's not unreasonable to expect people to use a bit of common sense.

SabrinaThwaite · 30/03/2024 00:42

There was this one too - couple with a child:

There has been a terrible tragedy near me today - child apparently unsupervised near waters edge- one child lost their life, and another is likely to be screwed up for life.

coxesorangepippin · 30/03/2024 01:28

My kids have grown up scrambling/climbing and this feels like a total non story to me

^

To a six year old driving a fucking tractor instead of watching paw patrol if a morning ?

Come on

non story like the child near me who lost their life today - got too close too the edge - in front of their sibling who will never recover from today, I doubt

costahotchocolatesaremyweakness · 30/03/2024 01:57

A family friend (young boy) died falling from a cliff playing. That photo puts the fear of god into me.

Northernsouloldies · 30/03/2024 02:01

Who in their right mind would pitch a tent on cliff edge.i got the heebies just looking at it.

CosmosQueen · 30/03/2024 05:09

Darwinism in action.
I bet they thought they were being so clever 🫣

FarmingWife · 30/03/2024 05:28

I live next to some cliffs that have a castle and a walk, which is a big tourist attraction. I went there once and it terrified me! (I do have a fear of sudden drops though)

I never took my kids there. Ever. There have been several tragic stories involving children in the time I’ve lived here. It just puts the fear right up me.

Threewheeler1 · 30/03/2024 06:11

I grew up on the chalk cliffs along the coast from here. We'd be out every day along the cliff paths.
It was crumbling all the time. The coastline around there is constantly changing.
These people are utterly reckless.
Much like the people who sit directly under the sheer cliff face of beaches, despite there being warnings everywhere to stay away because of the landslides and actual evidence of the large landslides right next to them.

DrJoanAllenby · 30/03/2024 08:04

We have ponies, cows and sheep wandering around and sadly people are hell bent on taking photos.
