Don’t get a dog

Manyandyoucanwalkover · 28/03/2024 23:30

Dogs are really hard work. They don’t come house trained, so expect to have wee and poo all over your floors. They will eat stuff they shouldn’t and then they vomit. They can be very noisy, they bark and they whine. Some keep you awake half the night. The vet’s bills are horrendous. £75 for a consultation, then medication on top of that. They need regular medication for worms, ticks and fleas. Many dogs need trips to the dog groomer, factor in about £50 every six weeks. This is for 10 years or more. Then they break your heart. 🐾💔

Please don’t get a dog, unless you have thought about all the above.

Oh FGS. You happen to have a high maintenance cat. In general, cats are much less work than dogs - I don't know why that is so hard to wrap your head round. It's like someone saying, 'Oh Springer Spaniels don't need a lot of exercise because my Springer is very lazy and hates going out,' when that is not the norm. And by the way PP said they can be left overnight, not left out, and I've never once, in my 50 odd years, seen a cat being walked. I know people do it, but it is rare.

Exactly this. That poster is getting all salty and narked because she is fed up of her super high maintenance cat, that is clearly just desperate to be let outside instead of cooped up in the house. Of course cats are much easier to look after (overall) than dogs. I can't believe anyone would actually try to say any different. I am embarrassed for @Oscarbravoromeo 😬

YaMuvva · 02/04/2024 23:47

I mean this is all fairly obvious.

Id rather pull an eyeball out than get a dog. I see no benefit whatsoever to having a dog, and I’m always surprised how many people get them (sadly I’m no longer surprised how few actually bother their arses to train them)

YaMuvva · 02/04/2024 23:49

I’ve seen a car being walked and it was one of the most ridiculous things. I think it’s awful and selfish to keep a cat as a house cat. It would literally be like cooping up a human. If you want a cat move away from the main road then get one

As an aside I might make HighMaintenanceCat my username

You can see if posters hit the thanks button. There’s no sign of it on this thread.

Yes you ARE 100% wrong. No-one can see the THANKS except the person who has been thanked! Why are you so insistent that you're correct? You are soooo wrong. 😆 I'm cringing for you! 😬

SabreIsMyFave · 02/04/2024 23:40

Oh sorry, I was responding to what you SAID, not what you MEANT! 🙄

Don't spout ridiculous hyperbole and daft exaggerations to try and look all totes hilaire and clever, and then get all salty when someone calls you out on it eh?

Edited

I would address your post but I really can't understand how you've reached the conclusions you have. Your post makes no sense at all. You clearly lack basic comprehension. Hence the need to use so many emoticons and CAPS. Not forgetting the old !

But thanks for the guidance, I'll try not to be so "totes hilaire" in the future.

You can’t see it but I’ve had 64 thanks for my thread.

I see, you're only in it for the thanks.

I'm not gettiing one. I'd hate to have to leave everywhere early to check if they are ok.
Plus im massively lazy.

Oblomov24 · 03/04/2024 07:16

Dh last night said he wants to get a dog when he retires. I do love dogs but don't really want one.

I think the message in the OP is aimed at those who want a dog but haven’t thought through the work involved, not those who don’t have any desire for one.

My post was aimed at people who are thinking about getting a dog but who haven’t thought it through. I’m very sad about how many poor dogs end up in rescue centres. That is all.

Not even comparable. As long as the food bowl is regularly replenished, 95% of cat ownership is like having an extra cushion on the sofa. As long as you can handle the occasional death stare or demand for attention when said cushion awakes, cat ownership is pretty low intensity.

"As long as you can handle the occasional death stare" YES! It's a thing then, Phew! My best friend suddenly becomes a predator and I shudder.

Oh my goodness Sabre, your post is unflinchingly accurate about the house of someone who keeps multiple dogs. Faeces and urine everywhere and the house is a pigsty, not to mention the expense, why do people do it?
I once worked with someone who was allergic to dogs, she mentioned she could smell dogs on other people's clothing, yet dog owners seem unaware of this, or it doesn't bother them. I'd be mortified if people avoided me due to my clothes smelling of dog.

I encounter loads of people who smell… BO, cigarette smoke, unwashed clothes etc. Dog smell is far less offensive to me than those things.

There are FAR more people stinking of dogs than of BO and cigarette smoke IMO

Yeah, dog smell is a thing, but it is not offensive unless you specifically don't like it. I mean, some people like the smell of cigarette smoke.
And there are some perfumes I can't stand. To each their own.

I've stopped going to restaurants now in Cornwall, the smell of dogs especially when wet, barking, slobbing and farting, Streets and buildings covered in dog waste, A boards dripping in dog urine and beaches have become a barking dog toilet. Constantly moving out of the way and tripping over dog leads somehow dog owners think they right of passage because we love them as dog owners,

Manyandyoucanwalkover · 04/04/2024 09:53

I hope the dog haters on here, are never in need of an assistance dog.

Going into a house with indoor cats is worse IMO. Stinks of cat piss. Cat owners can claim all they like that the litter trays help hide the smell. It doesn’t.

Dogs don’t shit and piss inside the house. House cats do. That is infinitely worse and far more unhygienic.

ThatPlumCritic · 04/04/2024 10:39

Why do dog owners always shout and use the strong hate word? Not the dogs I have issues with, it's their owners, next you're telling me you don't trust the non doggy people.

PaperDoIIs · 04/04/2024 12:02

@Devilshands SOME dogs don't. Some do and it's everywhere, not even contained to one box.

Quisto · 04/04/2024 13:50

@JiraffDeSaki your cockerpoo sounds very much like my neighbours' cockerpoo. My Miniature poodle was nothing like that, he was an absolute sweetheart. The cocker spaniels that I inherited were pretty feral though, very barky and food obsessed.

My house doesn’t have faeces and urine everywhere, nor is it a pigsty and I have 3 dogs! 🤬
