To buy myself an Easter egg for £20

I can’t have dairy and most dairy free chocolate isn’t nice. I ummed and aahed for ages thinking what a stupid amount of money on chocolate (even though we spend that and more on a takeaway without question). Today I bought it but I’m now home and questioning if I’m genuinely out of my mind?

Also why all the hand wringing! We all deserve a treat especially at Easter. Enjoy OP.

Ihatemondays1962 · 27/03/2024 15:17

I'd also be interested in knowing the make as I am trying to cut down on dairy.

SinnerBoy · 27/03/2024 15:19

Why not? It's your money and you can afford it.

Mind you, at that price, don't eat it all at once!

murasaki · 27/03/2024 15:26

I've spent £20 on an egg for DP (I don't like chocolate, so I get vicarious pleasure from this) so it had better be good! I don't regret it though. Enjoy your treat.

Dinoswearunderpants · 27/03/2024 15:37

If you have the money, then do it!

I spent £59 on a Lindt Easter hamper and have zero regrets.

everycowandagain · 27/03/2024 15:43

I bought myself a Hotel Chocolat Ostrich Egg, still over £70 even with 15% off. No regrets.

Howaboutthats · 27/03/2024 15:16

What brand is it? My husband is dairy free I'm happy to spend £20 on him for a nice one.

Hotel Chocolat. Nutmilk. Really, really good. If you don’t want to spend that without checking if he likes it they also do a small pot of chocolate buttons with a rabbit on it for about £2, they’re made from the same stuff

Thanks I'm going to get one now!

DilemmaDelilah · 27/03/2024 17:20

Easter eggs are hugely overpriced.... If I was spending £20 on chocolate for myself I would just buy chocolate... rather than a chocolate egg! More chocolate for the money. However I do expect an egg from my DH -and I have got him one.

So - if you want chocolate and can afford it go ahead! (But don't buy an expensive Easter egg get more chocolate)

BedRot · 27/03/2024 17:20

I’m sat in Itsu right now eating £9 worth of sashimi because I just really fancied it. Enjoy it OP.

Nutmilk, Hotel Chocolat

I cant find anything nutmilk on the website 😩 what am I doing wrong? Exact links would be hugely helpful and I would appreciate it thank you!

as you say, you'd spend more on a takeaway, and much more eating out, so why begrudge yourself this? Assuming you won't eat it all in one go it'll be the equivalent of dessert for a few days.
https://www.countryandtownhouse.com/food-and-drink/bettys-easter-egg/ Betty's are selling one for £375

kikisparks · 27/03/2024 17:32

Nomo are pretty good for those asking, about £6 an egg I think.

Hold on, I’ll find it. If you search for vegan Easter egg it’ll come up

@Howaboutthats I got a bigger one that should’ve bee £29.45 but was just over £20 with discount, though I bought it in store today. Doesn’t seem to be online, maybe they sold out? They have the smaller one though! It’s all insanely good

Dont be daft, why on earth would you feel guilty for treating yourself?

This, if you can afford it why not?!
Just get the Easter egg and enjoy!

PutOnYourRedShoesAndLetsDance · 27/03/2024 17:50

Lindt dairy free Choc from sainsburys is absolutely gorgeous.. l get that for my daughter..
Can l ask what Easter egg it is you got?
Op I'd enjoy it and savour every mouthful.
It's a treat.

kikisparks · 27/03/2024 18:09

Buttermilk vegan chocolate is lovely too.

Daisy12Maisie · 27/03/2024 18:59

I just paid £29 for a new pair of leggings to wear to the gym. Bearing in mind I do not care at all what I look like at the gym and I could have got several pairs in primary for that price. I just wanted them. So £20 for an Easter egg considering you can't have much chocolate seems reasonable to me.

Lavenderandbrown · 27/03/2024 21:02

i love holiday traditions and always buy multiple types of candy (more than 20$ and I can tell prices have increased ) and make a big basket for all to share. Plenty of folk spend this and more on wine/special menu items for the holiday. Enjoy your egg OP. Life is meant to be enjoyed

bakewellbride · 27/03/2024 21:44

Have you tried hip chocolate op? It's honestly so good.

TeaWithHobnobs · 27/03/2024 21:49

Why not buy it? It's a once a year treat and nice dairy free chocolate is hard to find. Hope you enjoy every bite!

I'm always on the lookout for lovely tasting, vegan chocolate so thanks for the link.
