To buy myself an Easter egg for £20

I can’t have dairy and most dairy free chocolate isn’t nice. I ummed and aahed for ages thinking what a stupid amount of money on chocolate (even though we spend that and more on a takeaway without question). Today I bought it but I’m now home and questioning if I’m genuinely out of my mind?

AIBU?

If you’re having to skip a meal to afford it YABU.

If you can afford it without worry YANBU.

Would you be second guessing yourself this much if it had been a present for someone else?

mitogoshi · 27/03/2024 12:43

If you fancied it then it's fine.

For anyone looking for free from chocolate eggs, Aldi had a decent selection

MalcolmTuckersSwearBox · 27/03/2024 12:43

if you can afford it, what's the problem?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 27/03/2024 12:43

Buy it and enjoy it!

VickyEadieofThigh · 27/03/2024 12:43

I would! Enjoy it.

No not at all. I do think it’s an insane amount though even though it’s a treat. I might go and put the equivalent amount of money into a food bank later this week- might make me feel less guilty and inclined to return the egg.

I can’t have dairy and most dairy free chocolate isn’t nice

Doesn't that mean it won't even be very nice though? Or is it a certain brand that does taste ok

No, it’s a nice one (probably the only nice chocolate) but that’s why it’s so expensive!

We don’t spend a lot on chocolate generally (find most of it horrible nowadays) but treated me and DH to a £30 egg to share over Easter. Seems a bit mad but then some people probably spend that every fortnight on chocs.

KalaMush · 27/03/2024 12:53

YANBU. You only have an Easter egg once a year! Enjoy your treat.

TokyoSushi · 27/03/2024 12:54

Enjoy it!!

Flapearedknave · 27/03/2024 12:55

If you want to feel better, hotel chocolat have eggs for £80

neverbeenskiing · 27/03/2024 12:57

I really don't think you should feel guilty about treating yourself, unless it means not being able to afford essentials.

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 27/03/2024 13:15

Treat yourself !! Vegan chocolate can be weird so worth shelling out for the good stuff. Easter was a big holiday for my family growing up so an expensive egg is like buying a Christmas present for myself which is quite common Grin

totallybonkerswarning · 27/03/2024 13:17

I'd much rather see a post by someone who's treated themselves to something they want,

than reading a post by some winer that her partner booked the wrong type of cruise for her birthday so she's in floods of tears., Sometimes it's best to treat yourself 😊

LaurieFairyCake · 27/03/2024 14:15

I've got a £37.50 egg

And at Christmas I have a £40 box of my favourite chocolates

That's literally it for the year for me so very happy to have something I actually want

minipie · 27/03/2024 14:18

Will you get £20 worth of enjoyment from it? If so then don’t worry about whether it’s a daft amount objectively… if it is worth that to you then it’s worth it. Sounds like this is a rare find for you so worth it.

Revelatio · 27/03/2024 14:18

I bought a steak for £40 (it does serve 2!), I didn’t feel guilty about that. I don’t like chocolate, but if I did I wouldn’t feel guilty about spending £20 on it. You can always eat gruel for the rest of the week if you really want to martyr yourself!

takealettermsjones · 27/03/2024 14:32

As long as the box is bigger than your head, it is fine. gavel

What is this chocolate as my lo is dairy intolerant and I haven't really found a decent chocolate. And I wouldn't be feeling guilty, sounds like you rarely eat chocolate and it is Easter so just enjoy your egg guilt free😊

Excited101 · 27/03/2024 15:04

I get myself a hotel chocolat extra thick egg every Easter. But I buy it after Easter Sunday because then it’s half price!

InTheTimeItTookMeToEatAnEggSandwich · 27/03/2024 15:07

Good for you!

I’ve toyed with the idea but haven’t bought one. I don’t generally have one at all, I just thought it would be something nice. I stuck a couple of multipacks of chocolate bars on my home shopping order though, so it’s not as if I’m missing out!

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 27/03/2024 15:09

I will sometimes buy myself something nice like this - why not? Nobody else will and I'd rather have something that I really really want than nothing at all. I mutter 'because I'm worth it' as I buy it.

gamerchick · 27/03/2024 15:15

Dont be daft, why on earth would you feel guilty for treating yourself?

What brand is it? My husband is dairy free I'm happy to spend £20 on him for a nice one.
