Marc Jacobs Bag - keep or return?

Heyduggee123 · 26/03/2024 21:01

We’re on holiday in the states and I’ve gone slightly mad in one of those discount shopping malls. I got this bag about £150 less than what I’d pay in the UK (but I’d never ever buy a Marc Jacobs bag in the uk - I just don’t get the opportunity to shop)

anyway I keep looking at it and thinking that I should take it back and swap it for a more practical bag, this one gets my phone & keys in it but that’s about it.

I have 5 year old twins so not at all practical 😂

what do you think?

YABU - return it for something more sensible

YANBU - keep it it’s beautiful

Marc Jacobs Bag - keep or return?

I was going to say you're on a hiding to nothing posting this on AIBU, get yourself on Style & Beauty, but people are being surprisingly civilised!
If you like it, use it and enjoy it. I'm not a handbag using person, but a small bag like that can be surprisingly practical.

Biscoffisthebest · 29/03/2024 16:57

Love both of them! Well done on your bargains - I really love the Kate Spade one.

Return it, buy a nice cheaper bag and give the remainder of the money you can afford to spend to a food bank or homeless charity.

And furthermore, sell all your possessions, live in sack cloth under a bridge and donate the proceeds to starving orphans.

OP has earned this money, she can spend it however she likes without being shamed by strangers on the internet.

Bingate6 · 29/03/2024 17:03

I find small bags loads more practical as these days I just take my phone and keys, all kids crap goes in a separate bag in the car! Love the Kate Spade one.

I feel like my words may have touched a nerve with you but I'm not responsible for the feelings (shame or otherwise) of other people. The OP is free to spend her money in any way she pleases but she asked for opinions from strangers on the Internet and I gave mine.

‘Touched a nerve’ 😂😂

I suspect that’s wishful thinking on your part.

Jukeboxtardis · 29/03/2024 21:03

Same as with men, if you aren't sure then it's a no.

BIossomtoes · 29/03/2024 21:04

Nice bags @Heyduggee123. I love a cross body and that one’s a beaut.

RudolfsLeftToe · 29/03/2024 21:06

Keep it!! It’s a gorgeous bag and you’ve got it for a steal!

Thisisthedawningoftheageofaquarius · 29/03/2024 21:09

I have that MJ one in a slightly bigger size in black and love it; it gets loads of compliments as well

enjoy!!!

ManchesterBeatrice · 29/03/2024 21:09

Good god, it's horrific.

Absolutely not - I would never 'wish' for my words to make anyone uncomfortable. I wonder why you think I would? Why is that thought amusing to you? The OP asked for opinions and I gave mine. Saschka disagreed with my comment and I responded. That's all there is to it.

UpsideLeft · 29/03/2024 21:10

They're both really lovely bags

You'll enjoy using them especially once you're back home because they'll remind you or your trip to the states

What a truly ridiculous comment

Compared to the last handbag thread on S&B the replies on this thread have been surprisingly reasonable. IKEA bag, trumpet or Lalique Vase anyone 🤦🏻‍♀️

Are you unable to tell me what is ridiculous about what I said @UpsideLeft? I wasn't trying to be funny. I would really like to understand why you felt the need to offer what looks like an insult without any qualification.

What's ridiculous about it?

It's ridiculous because you're basically saying eveone needs to buy smart price items and donate every single disposable penny they have after spending the absolute minimum on an item.
I guarantee you don't do this.

She's well within her rights to spend any amount on a bag and not give a penny to a food bank.

Why on earth do you think that she needs to do that?

Again, coming from someone who regularly uses food banks.

I wonder what motivated you to say "you're basically saying eveone needs to buy smart price items and donate every single disposable penny they have after spending the absolute minimum on an item" - this is just a facetious strawman argument @KnightsAway . I didn't say that at all. I have absolutely not said anything like that anywhere on this thread. I responded to the OP's direct question by saying that, in my opinion, they should return the bag and get a nice cheaper bag and donate the difference. My comment was in response this one question. I have not suggested anywhere on this thread that anyone should donate every penny of their disposable income to charity or suggested that I do that either. I am not foodbank user, I donate regularly to various local and national charities but I also spend my disposable income on nice things occasionally too - I choose not to spend it on very expensive items which are of limited usefulness because that is my choice when spending my money. I hope this clarifies my position.
