Would you go abroad for surgery?

Corporatemum · 26/03/2024 18:55

I have researched this clinic for months in Poland amazing reviews no deaths and brilliant infection rate very very low. I’ve had a consultation with the doctor who made me feel so at ease.

However I have a fear of dying and leaving my kids behind. I would still have the same fear here in the UK. But at least I know they won’t have to fly my body back.

I would be having a tummy tuck and breast up lift and would stay out there for a 7-10 days then fly home. I appreciate that when I come home there is pretty much no aftercare so if anything goes wrong I would have to rely on the NHS or fly back to Poland if I was well enough.

No. I wouldn't.

MotherofGorgons · 26/03/2024 18:56

No. But then i wouldn't have surgery at all. I don't suppose that's helpful, but you asked.

StylishM · 26/03/2024 18:56

If you're looking at Nordestetics (sp?) then join the Botched Facebook group...

Mariannas · 26/03/2024 18:56

No. And it’s not fair to make the NHS have to spend money correctly botched surgeries carried out abroad.

WaitingfortheTardis · 26/03/2024 18:57

No, I wouldn't do that.

AGodawfulsmallaffair · 26/03/2024 18:58

No! Have you seen that woman’s butt lift that went horribly wrong recently?

MindHowYouGoes · 26/03/2024 18:58

Absolutely not

Piggletta · 26/03/2024 18:58

Absolutely not.

fungipie · 26/03/2024 18:59

No, I wouldn't. And would never risk such an operation with young kids who rely on me.

BlueMum16 · 26/03/2024 18:59

No I wouldn't and having recently had private surgery in the UK (minor op) the NHS wouldn't support or treat me as a follow up as it wasn't life threatening and I had to wait until I could get back to the private hospital for a prescription.

gm2023 · 26/03/2024 18:59

No way. But then I’m not keen on the idea of cosmetic surgery, Botox, fillers, etc.

AhNowTed · 26/03/2024 18:59

No I wouldn't.

But I could afford it here.

However, my niece had a breast reduction in Turkey with no issues.

I do however think (with zero evidence) that taking matter out, is safer than putting matter in.

MotherofGorgons · 26/03/2024 19:00

Is the NHS even working where you are to fix you if anything goes wrong? It's completely stopped working where I am.

gerteddy · 26/03/2024 19:00

No I'd rather pay double or more and get it done here. Aside from what seems to be higher risks I cldnt imagine having to fly after a surgery.

Noyesnoyes · 26/03/2024 19:01

Nope

SofaSpuds · 26/03/2024 19:02

Not in a million years!

SecondHandFurniture · 26/03/2024 19:03

Not in a million years and doubly not for anything cosmetic.

I can't get past the poor woman who recently died in Turkey.

AllieOup · 26/03/2024 19:03

Yes.

I had a gastric sleeve in Turkey.

Am considering breast lift and tummy tuck in Lithuania.

Ihatethenewlook · 26/03/2024 19:03

I seriously considered it for many years for multiple different surgeries. But I would no longer take the risk. There’s been a few high profile cases in the news very recently, some were mothers who were getting either cosmetic or weight loss surgery. They lost their lives and left their children motherless for cheap surgeries. Also deaths or not, you cannot tell what’s going to happen, especially when you’re out of their care. I’m sure I read about a case in the last few days where someone developed sepsis on the plane home and died. That (probably) would not have happened if she was under proper care. It’s a no brainer for me when the risk your taking is your literal life

ChimneyPot · 26/03/2024 19:04

I would go abroad for a necessary procedure that wasn’t available at home or if there was a better surgeon/ history of success with a particular institution or doctor abroad.

Not for cheaper cosmetic surgeryz

MurderousCheekbones · 26/03/2024 19:05

Having had a tummy tuck, absolutely completely 100% not.

Needanewnamebeingwatched · 26/03/2024 19:06

Yes, I have had surgery in Turkey, well researched, hospitals amazingly clean and staff lovely.

I had a 360 FDL tummy tuck with breast lift and implants, they I went back for inner thigh and arm lift

Here in the UK we act as if we are the only country that can do quality surgery.

We just lost a friend who had a gallbladder operation in the UK and they nicked his bowel and died

CutiePatooties · 26/03/2024 19:06

No.

What if something goes wrong? Where is the aftercare?

Things can go wrong after any surgery, even with the best surgeon, so good aftercare is a necessity. What will you do if something bad happens and you can’t get the care you need?

ComtesseDeSpair · 26/03/2024 19:06

Yes, providing the data and stats are available and transparent. My Polish friends living in the U.K. often travel home when they need medical treatment because they think it’s better in Poland.

Yes. I lost someone during a routine surgery too in England.

Anyone can die during surgery. Elective surgery is a risk, in the UK or abroad.
