Would you go abroad for surgery?

I have researched this clinic for months in Poland amazing reviews no deaths and brilliant infection rate very very low. I’ve had a consultation with the doctor who made me feel so at ease.

However I have a fear of dying and leaving my kids behind. I would still have the same fear here in the UK. But at least I know they won’t have to fly my body back.

I would be having a tummy tuck and breast up lift and would stay out there for a 7-10 days then fly home. I appreciate that when I come home there is pretty much no aftercare so if anything goes wrong I would have to rely on the NHS or fly back to Poland if I was well enough.

No. Private cosmetic surgery abroad is far too risky.

Spend the money on good underwear, counselling to boost your self esteem and a fitness instructor.

broccolienthusiast · 26/03/2024 19:08

I'm not into cosmetic surgeries but I do all my medical procedures and check-ups in Poland.

Yes. I lost someone during a routine surgery too in England.

Anyone can die during surgery. Elective surgery is a risk, in the UK or abroad.

But isn’t that the point - not that surgery is worse elsewhere, but that then you’re travelling on a plane hundreds of miles or another place that wasn’t involved and would have to try to pick up any issues?

Surely better to stay in one place until healed (whenever it is)

lostintheocean · 26/03/2024 19:12

Yes. The UK doctors are so out of date. I went to 4 about my nose, two admitted they weren’t skilled enough for what I wanted and the, one wanted me to do 3 separate surgeries to fix it and one was disgusting - stuck his fingers up my nose with no gloves on, barely spoke English and wanted to charge me £13K.

I found my surgeon through good research and got a fantastic result. I joined a WhatsApp group for other people having a rhinoplasty with the same doctor and many girls were having revisions with him because their UK doctor botched their first.

I had a breast lift in the UK, paid privately and I still had to go to the NHS as I got an infection and it was oozing and they provided no out of hours care.

Please don’t listen to people that have never had surgery or would never consider it as they will have no first hand experience or have researched it properly.

No.

FelicityBennett · 26/03/2024 19:13

No , I wouldn‘t , not because I don’t think other countries have better outcomes but more because I’m aware of the need for follow up and scrutiny if it goes wrong.
Plastic surgeons in this country are covered by indemnity and would provide follow up.
The NHS would save your life after plastic surgery gone wrong ie sepsis on ICU but would not repair any cosmetic damage or provide follow up eg gastric band . The advice on this is changing and primary care in future is not likely to fund bloods etc and you would have to pay for this privately anyway .
so check out follow up

My best friend is Lithuanian too and she goes back to see her dentist she also had a tummy tuck there. I feel bonkers considering it because I’m a big fat scardy cat!

ImAlwaysknackered · 26/03/2024 19:15

Yes, I almost had bariatric surgery in Lithuania. I’d only choose a close ish EU country.

I think people hear surgery abroad and automatically imagine some back street alley.

You need to do your research thoroughly and accept that with any surgery comes risks.

No! Have you seen that woman’s butt lift that went horribly wrong recently?

Yes but that was a BBL they are incredibly dangerous.

A fitness instructor won't help with loose skin after 100lb weight loss.

Yeah, nooo. That doesn't work when you have, say, 5 pounds of excess skin that hangs down to mid thigh.

Mumstaxi100 · 26/03/2024 19:20

I had a gastric sleeve the UK, the care wasn’t great and there was no aftercare offering.
Similar position as in I lost a lot of weight, I had all my plastic surgery in Lithuania. The care is fantastic, I even went out for general surgery as there is a 4 year wait for gallbladder remove.

If you're looking at Nordestetics (sp?) then join the Botched Facebook group...

Oh dear. They’re on my radar, have lots of rave reviews from people on the weightloss surgery group. 😢

KatharinaRosalie · 26/03/2024 19:21

Yes, I had upper eyelids done in Estonia. 'Abroad' is a really big place and any surgery anywhere has risks.

DeeCeeCherry · 26/03/2024 19:21

No. But to be honest, I personally know 2 women who have, and they're absolutely fine. One went to Turkey, the other Egypt. All surgery has risks anyway and I can't see why Poland would be any more dangerous than UK. Maybe put it off for a while as you're clearly fretful so, you're not ready. You either want surgery, or you don't- wait until youve reached the point where you're able to make the decision.

Turkeytummytuck · 26/03/2024 19:23

Yes I have been to Turkey and had surgery, I had a 360TT with lipo, a breast uplift and my arms done.

Research is the key to traveling abroad for surgery.
I had very successful surgery and I'm over the moon with the results.
OP if you are referring to Dr Adam Kalinsky Europe Surgery clinic or whatever name he is using atm in Poland PLEASE don't. He is a terrible surgeon, look at botched groups on Facebook.
Seriously please don't go to Poland and have surgery with him.

Elebag · 26/03/2024 19:26

No. And being on a plane two weeks after major surgery is a dreadful idea.

Nords have gone downhill very rapidly in the last 2/3 years. They were initially my first choice but I'm so glad I didn't choose them.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 26/03/2024 19:30

A woman I work with died just before Christmas having similar surgery abroad, she had three young children....

Never in a million years would I consider this.

Ponoka7 · 26/03/2024 19:33

It's all about research and considering if it is ever achievable (cost) in the UK. One of my friends nearly lost her life after a gastric bypass. They hadn't internally sewn her up properly and she has suffered for two years. Two other relatives have had successful tummy tucks/breast lifts. I've had a dental consultation and I'm waiting eighteen months to see if any issues are arising for former patients. There's no chance of me being able to afford implants over here.

FlyingDuck5 · 26/03/2024 19:43

No, why would you want to fly post surgery?
Just have it done in the UK if you want it

CanaryMary · 26/03/2024 19:45

Oh gosh absolutely not

AnAwfulPerson · 26/03/2024 19:47

Absolutely not. And I slightly wish the NHS could turn away people who have unnecessary surgery abroad and then expect the taxpayer to fund the repairs.

MorrisZapp · 26/03/2024 19:53

No, I wouldn't. I had a breast reduction last year at the hospital up the road from my house, trust me you will be absolutely banjaxed.

Motherrr · 26/03/2024 19:55

I did 18 years ago. Researched my clinic very carefully and went to South Africa. Can you get independent reviews of this place - not just reviews but actual genuine verified experiences and statistics - is there a middleman/facilitator type company who knows the area and surgeries very well and can point you in the right direction? That's what I went through years ago

Bottom line... if it seems too cheap and too good to be true, something is probably amiss
