To not eat food off the office floor?

Today we had our lunch in a meeting room in the office, there were 6 of us and I dropped some chocolate on the floor. I said “oh noo” and all of them said it’s fine just eat it. I said I’m not eating food off the floor! But they were all in agreement that it’s fine because it’s not sticky food and it’s not the ground outside. They said if it was them they would just eat it.

I said but everyone has been walking in here with their shoes, which have been outside. But they were all basically laughing at me for not eating it. It was lighthearted and I’m not offended or anything but I was just wondering, how many people would eat it? I thought more people would think like me and not want to eat something that’s been dropped on the office carpet where multiple people have been walking. But I was the only one with this opinion and now I feel baffled 😂

So.. would you eat it or not?

I would have eaten it. I've often eaten something which has fallen on the floor/ground and I'm rarely ill.

I mean it's up to you. According to some scientific evidence there is more germs and bacteria on your keyboard and desk then the loos. I would've eaten it but then I've got no standards 😊

It's chocolate... ofcourse I'd eat it! If it's dry food, fallen on to a dry floor and picked up again instantly, I'd definitely eat it.

Polyester office carpet fluff - no way.

PuggyPuggyPuggy · 31/03/2024 08:29

I don't see anything wrong with eating something that's been dropped, but it would also depend on what it is and where it's dropped. It's visible dirt / fluff that would put me off, not the idea of floor bacteria... although I wouldn't eat something that's touched the floor right by a toilet 🤷🏼‍♀️

Funny story: I was once in the kitchen while my sister was making something to eat. She turned around with her plate and something (I can't remember what she made) slid off and fell on the floor. She snatched it up, hesitated, then binned it. I snorted and said "I'd have still eaten it" and she said "I was going to, but you were watching!" 😂

Depends a. How good the food is b. How bad the floor is c. How moist the food is. Cost benefit analysis 😁. Given all of them would eat it...the floor probably isn't bad, so I would cos it's chocolate and it's not moist/ sticky 🍫...brush it down and it's all good 👍. If it was broccoli 🥦...Bin it 🤷

Bloody disgusting! Are people really that desperate for a crumb of chocolate (or any food for thst matter)?

GentleCritic · 31/03/2024 09:54

YANBU.
I share the same opinion as your office workers, if it's dry and there's nothing on it (take my glasses off, and check properly) I'd eat it, but only Infront of my family.

PaperDoIIs · 31/03/2024 09:57

Meh I probably would. I used to do it as a kid as well. I wasn't allowed certain stuff so I'd loiter around in case some of the other kids would drop some on the ground and then I'd eat it. Grin

Createausername1970 · 31/03/2024 10:05

On my own, I would have inspected it for anything obvious stuck to it. If it had something stuck to it, no I wouldn't eat it. If it looked unscathed then I would eat it.

In front of other people, I probably wouldn't.

Prelapsarianhag · 31/03/2024 11:55

I would and have many times. I am 71 and never had food poisoning of any kind.

HoneyButterPopcorn · 31/03/2024 11:57

Lord no - we have mice in the office so no way! The exterminators come in too so more alone knows what’s on the flooring.

NaiceUser · 31/03/2024 14:03

Absolutely not! Everyone walks around with their shoes on in an office! Shoes which have been on the ground outside. Eugh
