Caught on camera, who pays

Person A asked person B for a lift to the station after work. Person B drove through a restricted zone at the station, was caught on camera and has been issued a fine. Person B wants person A to pay. Person A has refused. Who is BU?

I think A should offer half, if they are aware of the fine.

If I had been B I wouldn't even have told A about the fine - it's my car, I'm the driver, it's my responsibility, regardless of whether I was doing a favour for someone else or not.

In this case, because the journey was purely for the passenger's benefit.

While of course it's legally the driver's responsibility, I'd feel morally obliged not to leave someone out of pocket if they made this sort of mistake while doing me a favour.

In that case you'd be forking out for taxi and uber fines. Driver is responsible for the vehicle so the driver pays.

Why they were making that journey or for whose benefit is irrelevant.

Nah. They're driving professionally, not as a free favour. Not remotely comparable.

If I was A I’d offer to split the cost, if I was B then I’d just pay it. It’s the drivers responsibility really to be aware but I’d feel bad as the passenger too

If A doesn't offer to pay at least half, good luck getting a lift ever again. Yes, B is the driver in charge of the vehicle, but wouldn't be in this position if they weren't doing a favour (A asked for a lift), so common decency would dictate an offer to pay.

This.
