To go nuclear over this- bin and mug crimes

SpongeBlobSquareFace · 21/03/2024 15:15

My DH is normally lovely but he has done not one but two crimes and I need some perspective.

  1. He hasn't been emptying the kitchen bin, just pushing stuff further down. I tried to empty the bin just now as it stinks and the bag has burst sending the contents flying.
It's a mess and so much stuff is still lodged in there.
  1. The builder has been here and H gave him my mug for his brew. My mug that has 'Mum' written on it that I got as a gift.
I don't know why he has done that.

Are these things that would bother you?

XH did worse than that. DSis gave me a mug individually printed with a glorious photo of one of my favourite cricketers (Graham Thorpe in his prime, if anyone wants to know), and everyone was told NOT TO PUT IT IN THE DISHWASHER. So obviously XH put it in the dishwasher. Out comes mug a blurry smudge. One in a series of oh, so many reasons why he is X. Don't anyone DARE say "but at least he knew how to switch on the dishwasher"...

I'm also fairly sure he gave a bottle of fairly exclusive and expensive wine, which I was saving to share with DB, to the school for a raffle prize, but can't prove it.

HawkersEast · 21/03/2024 17:51

The bin is annoying but I'm sure we've all been there, shoved something in instead of taking it out.
The mug is pretty ridiculous, if it's that precious keep it somewhere where only you can access.
Neither if these are remotely nuclear territory. YABU.

Your bin should not smell. Food scraps should go in your food waste.

Was there a reason why you couldn't empty the bin yourself before it got too full?

Not everyone has a food waste bin.
Personally I would have done the bin myself but we dont have a particular division of tasks but the mug? I would have been pretty cross about that

weegiemum · 21/03/2024 19:05

Everyone in our house knows that the mugs on the top shelf of the mug cupboard are ones people think are special. The boy other person who gets to use my Moomin mug is ds, because he appreciates its size and shape and he has the same coffee out of the machine as I do and it fits perfectly!

Bin is a free for all!

God, these husband threads are never ending.
Just speak to the man, and stop boring us with your tedious domestic squabbles.

She's only asking for others opinions. You could just ignore this type of thread.

Where we are it is illegal to put food waste in your regular bin. I would’ve thought that this was the same throughout the UK

Nope - sadly not the case here.

GalileoHumpkins · 21/03/2024 19:43

Oh Yes,
The Mug, UGH!!!!!!!
I would have to ditch it sorry

Just wash it up like a normal human being and put it back in the cupboard. What do you think is so manky about the builder that you'd have to throw it away?

justthecat · 21/03/2024 19:52

Bin - only me that sorts it.
My mug, not a chance

No separate food waste where we live either.
Illegal though?? Frowned upon maybe, discouraged even, but illegal?? What is the penalty for this illegal activity 🤔?

No idea of the penalty, nor do I believe that they’d actually enforce it in a domestic setting but definitely has been illegal in NI since 2017. Looking now I’ve just seen that England is actually the only part of the UK which is lagging behind. Also illegal in Scotland and Wales

dudsville · 21/03/2024 20:13

My DH doesn't even want to touch my mugs for fear of breaking them, so that would never happen to me, but we do have a friend who stays over a lot who likes to use one of my mugs in particular. I now remove it from use when he visits.

DH also wouldn't do that with the bin. We both just take it out when we see it's full, so yeah that would big me too.

WandaWonder · 21/03/2024 20:14

Annoying the bin thing but would not enter my radar the mug thing

But even then I presume I do things that annoys dh also

Why exactly are you so possessive over mugs? You sound like a toddler

Blackcats7 · 21/03/2024 20:20

I would be furious. The bin thing is so much like the actions of a lazy teenager who thinks mum will do everything.
Regarding the mug I have separate workman mugs and my own mug is mine alone. I also used to keep a special mug for my ex-husband as I spat in his tea whenever he visited back in the days I still gave him occasional house room.

What vile and immature behaviour

Not illegal in Wales. 😀

It has been illegal in Wales since 2016.

Not if you knew the history.

Well I should be in prison then!

You can’t go comparing OP’s DH to a teenager whilst you showcase the mentality of a toddler

AdoraBell · 21/03/2024 20:37

The bin would give me the rage, the rage would be transferred onto DH while he clears it up and cleans ti floor.

Definitely get the builder to quote for a patio.

Tigertigertigertiger · 21/03/2024 20:37

Not a big deal
Let it go
