Tingling in urethra after a UTI has resolved....?

Posting here for traffic - sorry!!!

I've been having a nightmare over the past few months with a UTI which just wouldn't shift. Was eventually prescribed antibiotics for an extended period and it seemed to improve, but for the past few weeks I still get this tingling feeling in my urethra/general area down there after peeing. Urinating itself is usually fine, though maybe feels slightly more stingy than usual? Not even a sting, just a weird tingly feeling.

I do have a urogyane appointment next week but in the meantime wondered if anyone also had a leftover tingly/inflamed feeling in their urethra even when a UTI had resolved. It's miserable and starting to think it'll never go :(

For context I'm 32, so don't think it can be menopause related. Also cleared of STDs, smear test normal etc.

Didn't you already ask this yesterday? I imagine most responses will be the same still

My external areas 'down there' sting slightly after peeing, but I think that's because during my latest UTI, I passed so much water that the delicate areas got a bit sore? I have tried Vagisil incontinence cream (I'm not incontinent) it soothes those areas and has helped.

If there's another thread on the same topic, would you mind posting a link?

pickledwillies · 20/03/2024 14:20

@Springtime43 I did in the women's health thread, but got no responses. Hence posting here for traffic...

Me all the time... but I'm waiting for operation on a severe prolapse bladder.

pickledwillies · 20/03/2024 16:14

@PutOnYourRedShoesAndLetsDance Ah, hope it goes well! I don't think that's what mine is, but will ask the ureogyane to check...

I had this and then I was hospitalised with a kidney stone that was causing a partial blockage further up, please don'tet this worry you but demand a scan as once that was resolved I was so much better and the consultant who saw me told me I was at risk of Sepsis when he took my bloods. I didn't feel like I had a UTI at all, just residual symptoms so I was really surprised. I was struggling to clear my wee before and my kidney got infected which was then causing these odd UTI pangs.

pickledwillies · 20/03/2024 18:25

@CreateAUsername2024 Ah, thanks! Will ask the doc to check for this. How did they remove the stone?

I was lucky enough that it carried on moving, the pain I'd gone to hospital with was it passing but they kept me under observation for a couple of days until my scan confirmed it had gone. As my bloods didn't show the infection going up I had an antibiotic drip and if it hadn't gone I'd have had a stent put in which I've had before and was no trouble at all only temproary :)

I hope your appointment goes well, and I would be interested to hear what the consultant says, if you would be ok about reporting back?

dahliaaa · 21/03/2024 10:00

@pickledwillies I've got same issue with unresolved uti.
Do you mind if I ask how long the extended dose of antibiotics was?
And also are you able to see the Urogynaecologist on nhs or have you needed to go privately ?
Hope your appointment helps.

controversial cure - I had this irritation for months following prolonged antibiotics, for cystitis, then thrush, just wanted to sit in a bowl of ice cubes, tried regular salt, splashing in a shallow bath, same with vinegar, till house smelt like a chippy, soothing but did not end the incessant tickle
until a reflexologist recommended a stiff neat rough whisky, not a single smooth malt, a really cheap one, before bed, so I did, the idea is that it burns off the germs
irritates the bladder, then same next night. Reader, it worked.

good luck OP with your hospital appointment, realising your situation may require more intense medical attention, try not to worry

pickledwillies · 21/03/2024 10:20

@SOxon Haha what! Whiskey? Ok...my brother has some, I'll ask him.

Wow!! That's definitely worth a try - what sort of whiskey did you get (I know nothing about whiskey) how much did you drink and for how long?

I'm about to try cranberry capsules.

Bells, cheapest, in a small glass, a good glug, before bed, had a good night’s sleep!
then again next night. It worked for me, please no one castigate me if it fails to work for you.

I was already taking cranberry tablets and cranberry juice in a box, until it was cut half with water and lost its efficacy.
Robinsons lemon barley water too, made my own, boiled up barley, squeezed lemons, cut out sugar entirely, tried all manner of remedies until I lighted upon the Scottish cure all.

Isitisit · 21/03/2024 12:42

I get this post UTIs seems to be left over inflammation. I find staying hydrated helps.

Springtime43 · 21/03/2024 12:53

A few people have suggested D-Mannose. But I will try the whiskey next - so just one glass, on two consecutive nights? That's all it took?

This is amazing, I've just had this work for me in the last few days purely accidentally! Late night Irish coffee which is unusual for me and I noticed the slight sting was gone! Still a bit of odour tho so I was going to go back to the doctor - maybe I'll just have another whiskey!

Springtime43 · 21/03/2024 14:09

I have just been out and bought a small bottle of Bells (I smuggled it back into the house, in case the neighbours wondered why I'm buying whisky in the middle of the day ....... )

If Cranberry tablets don't help, I will definitely be cracking open the bottle.

Cheers!

pickledwillies · 21/03/2024 14:13

@Springtime43 Hahah. Maybe I'll try this also!

Ive had this for months now, been back and forth to the doctors and i cant even count the amount of urine samples they have lost. Kind of given up trying and just living with it at the moment. Might give the Bells a go :-)
