Does anyone else think colds and viruses and more frequent now and worse than they were a few years ago? It just seems to take longer to shift them and I’m sure they feel worse than pre covid.

OP posts:

I seem to have had a cold for three months . Its ridiculous.

Mairzydotes · 19/03/2024 13:02

Perhaps. Although, it's not necessarily since covid , as myself and a lot of people I know were poorly with various viruses in the autumn of 2019.

Onshoreyean · 19/03/2024 13:03

No tbh

Mrsjayy · 19/03/2024 13:05

Not really maybe "we" are more aware of colds because of covid but normal colds and flu can hang about for weeks.

PurpleCar02 · 19/03/2024 13:05

I think they are worse, now it seems like I get something with a cold eg tonsillitis/sinus issues and they seem to last much longer! But I do have small children and I didn’t before Covid so it could also be that for me 😁

coxesorangepippin · 19/03/2024 13:06

They seem less coldy and more virusy/ sinus and chest infections

Rather than those nose dripping bunged up colds of the 90's

HelloMiss · 19/03/2024 13:06

No not really

Lots more complaining about a common cold though. Resilience seems to have dropped

WardrobesAreFull · 19/03/2024 13:07

No not really. Maybe it’s a stage of life thing? Do you have young children?

LlynTegid · 19/03/2024 13:08

I think the lack of much below freezing weather may have contributed.

QuestionableMouse · 19/03/2024 13:10

I really feel like since I've had covid any sort of respiratory virus seems to hit me harder. Have Long Covid though so that probably contributes.

Tagyoureit · 19/03/2024 13:11

I think you're right. It seems to take longer to shift a cold these days and I've heard that from a few people

AnneLovesGilbert · 19/03/2024 13:11

I see you’ve met my children 🤦‍♀️

It is never fucking ending.

stayathomer · 19/03/2024 13:13

The doctor said to us last November that the average cough/cold is taking between 5 weeks and 2 months to shift now. We had a hellish winter, being on the spring weather!!

mynameiscalypso · 19/03/2024 13:13

Nope, it's the reverse for me. Fewer colds and none of them have been bad at all. And that's despite being immunocompromised and having a child in Reception

whatdidshedotogetahillnamedafterher · 19/03/2024 13:14

My daughter is 12 and its every 5 to 6 weeks she flops. I cannot get her right. She is totally into sports and has a super healthy diet but it knocks her off her feet and totally wipes her out. I genuinely cannot understand it,

Bobskeleton · 19/03/2024 13:15

Yes feel worse with the slightest cold these days. My guess is social distancing for months during COVID had a negative impact on our immune systems.

This has been me Sad since October......

Try and keep fit, eat relatively healthy, out in the fresh air, multi vitamins and vit d tablets........and yet I have been suffering from 3- odd weeks cold, with a few days respite, then feeling ill again.....it's ridiculous and depressing.....

Emailed the docs to see if perhaps a course of antibiotics would help clear any possible lingering infection that is causing my immune system to be so shit - they replied I should hear back from them by the 2nd April Hmm

Wish I knew the answer

Hope your daughter gets better soon Flowers

Yeah maybe, milder wetter winters so viruses are lingering.

ilovebreadsauce · 19/03/2024 13:24

I have had 4 infections since Xmas. All the same.Mild cold with horrendous cough

Lianna077 · 19/03/2024 13:24

Absolutely agree. My grandchildren seem to be ill all the time, with brief respites over holiday periods. It’s been particularly bad since Christmas.

I never seem to get a normal cold nowadays, it’s straight into a chest infection or sinus infection with high temperatures and a longer recovery time.

I assume it’s the impact that the lockdown has had, or a long term effect from having had COVID.

Deliadidit · 19/03/2024 13:29

I think it’s a combination of Covid and all being inside for what felt like years! but also as a country I think we’re becoming more unhealthy; lack of exercise, sunlight, poor diet all plays havoc with the immune system.

YouStupidWoman · 19/03/2024 13:33

Probably due to most people completely shagging their immune system with those bloody "vaccines".....

🤦‍♀️

Which children had the covid vaccine if that’s what you’re implying is the cause?

Vanessasbag · 19/03/2024 14:14

You're not wrong @Cloud44 !
More aggressive viruses results in a stronger physical reaction.
