Does anyone else think colds and viruses and more frequent now and worse than they were a few years ago? It just seems to take longer to shift them and I’m sure they feel worse than pre covid.

There's some nasty ones about and I suspect that there are many people whose systems have been weakened by Covid. Not a good combination

Teddleshon · 19/03/2024 15:59

Yep, this is our experience. No doubt due to the fact that immune systems suffered thanks to the lockdowns.

TrickorTreacle · 19/03/2024 17:01

It's called getting old.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 19/03/2024 17:05

I worked in a customer facing role all through Covid. I've just got my first cold in about five years - it's a stinker though!

Have no school aged children bringing the bugs home, which I think has helped.

telestrations · 19/03/2024 17:15

No the last two years I've knock wood barely had the sniffle but Summer/Autumn 2022 I had 3 separate bouts of possible COVID each with a slightly different symptom each lasting about a month. All tested negative but my GP said they all matched the time/main symptom for it.

In my 20s however I would spend the whole of Autumn/Winter with colds and get 2-3 bouts of tonsillitis until I moved from the UK. Then I would just get one stinker at the start of every Autumn.

Not in my experience

Patrickiscrazy · 19/03/2024 17:36

Hm, that's interesting.
I don't tend to get them, really, but they seem to last long and developing into chronic conditions,
wonder whether it's our immune systems overreacting.

Teddleshon · 20/03/2024 08:28

@TrickorTreacle you get fewer colds as you age.

Soñando25 · 20/03/2024 08:33

Yes, definitely, or it's certainly the case in my family and among friends too.

Elebag · 20/03/2024 08:35

Do you have primary school children? They're germ factories. Those years were awful.

you I've had every covid jab and booster going. No colds.

TuesdayWhistler · 20/03/2024 08:36

I know these days I seem to be sniffly, snotty and tired and feeling 'not right' more often than I feel clear nosed, awake and healthy.

I think the lack of much below freezing weather may have contributed.

I agree. It’s so much milder and wetter now and a paradise for germs. I’m not being rose tinted when I say I remember a lot of winters in the 90s/2000s as being much colder - a lot of frosts, temperature hovering just above freezing a lot of the time. Now it just seems to rain and be between 7-12 degrees.

I am vey very lucky with a very robust immune system which thankfully my now young adult kids have inherited .My SIL has much younger kids aged 10 and 6 years and I am absolutely flabbergasted at how often they are all really ill either the kids or the whole family .Its non stop and so difficult for them .They seem to be on heightened awareness for infection all the time .
