To just find Facebook so cringey?

One particular person will post every mundane thing to do with their children.

Hetes a photo of our family movie night in the living room. Or the family cooking a pizza. Like who cares?! She even took a photo of her relative coming home in an ambulance - making sure she got the paramedics in. Like how about give that elderly relative some privacy?

And I have one that posts videos of her talking to the camera in her car “hi everyone, just on my way to work”

I think social media is amazing. But why do people have to share the most mundane things. Just enjoy watching a film with your family. You don’t need to alert anyone you’re doing this.

Tough crowd @Rippedjeansharley 😬😆 I get it, which is why I don't bother with FB anymore.. some posters here are really taking this personally.. also why would you post photos publicly if they are for family members in other countries? Surely you'd just send them privately? Or do you like the the clicks and engagement? It's ok to admit that's what it is ☺️

PassingStranger · 17/03/2024 15:58

There's one person I know who posts hundreds of pictures of her daughter. Just everyday pictures nothing special.

Anyone would think she is the only person to have a daughter.
It's really unfair on the child too.
It's sad, it's like an addiction.

Is Facebook mandatory now or something?

Createausernametoday · 17/03/2024 16:03

I love FB but miss the days of hearing about folks pegging out the washing and “nom nom” pics with a huge Sunday lunch

Needmorelego · 17/03/2024 16:03

@OkPedro I don't do it for "likes" - I do it because I like it.
I tried a blog for a while. Despite the whole "once something is online it's there for ever" I find it hard to find my blog online (the name I used was one that is similar/identical to many other blogs).
I find the layout of Facebook easy to use and access.

Bangbangcauliflower101 · 17/03/2024 16:06

I share our family life a bit because I want family who live far away to see my daughter and I also see it as a journal and want my daughter to be able to see it when she’s older.
I’m not over sharing in a cringey way and only hey a handful of likes from loved ones who know how hellish my life used to be and are genuinely happy for me that things have moved into a lighter space.

AgilePlumHedgehog · 17/03/2024 16:38

I wonder what the chances are of FB falling over one day and all the 'journals' being lost? Maybe not next week or next year, but i imagine it'll happen eventually

hopscotcher · 17/03/2024 16:42

I quite enjoy some of the 'cringey' sharing people do on FB - find it quite entertaining. It's slightly endearing that some people still use it as if it's a diary. If it starts to annoy/bore me though, I put them on 30 day snooze or unfollow.
My pet hate is people who put up Wordle scores every day - I have 2 friends who've been doing that for a good couple of years. They are definitely unfollowed.

Needmorelego · 17/03/2024 16:42

@AgilePlumHedgehog yes it might happen one day.
But for now it does what I like and I am happy with it.

They have multiple data centres, so unlikely that will happen.

BeckiWithAnI · 17/03/2024 16:50

Personally, I quite like to see some of the mundane posts. Makes me feel more normal that my life isn’t ever always private jets and trips to the Maldives.
I like to see people stopping to take pleasure in the small things in life to be honest. I have more interest in Susan’s poorly photographed latte than Mrs Wannabe’s #bestlife #couplesgoals #wellneededvacay

Also, if you don’t like these posts just hide/mute them. Problem solved.

LuckyPeonies · 17/03/2024 17:13

@Rippedjeansharley I agree with you, which is why I stopped using facebook. Husband still uses it occasionally to keep up with relatives and acquaintances and, going by what he occasionally shows me, quite a few people don’t do anything without posting as many photos as possible.

I also hate the attention-seeking, the cryptic posts designed to attract concern, the ‘oooh, pookie, you are my sole mate (yes, that’s how it was spelled) and i lurve you to the moon and back, for eternity’ - cue imminent separation and ‘single’ status. I don’t miss it !

They have multiple data centres, so unlikely that will happen.

It will if they stop making money from it.

However I concede that won’t be any time soon given the numbers still scrolling.

It will still go on.

The child has not given their consent to be photographed every day since birth and put on social media.

Itloggedmeoutagain · 17/03/2024 17:28

My last couple of posts... one recommending a small business. Had a text today to say thank you as it lead to a new client.
Other was of my dog doing something daft.
My feed is full of people and things that are of interest to me because in use the unfollow button for anything that bores me. That's the point of having the option

Lovelynames123 · 17/03/2024 17:31

I have someone like this on my friends list, and to make it worse, every day she posts all of her memories 😂 but she's a nice woman, I've known her for years, so instead of unfriending I just unfollowed, or you could just scroll past...

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 17/03/2024 17:31

I agree. There’s one guy who posts a story everyday of the ‘4am club’ in the gym. Then bangs on about it like we should all be there at that time. A woman I know posts every single present she ever gets.

RageAgainstTheCoffeeMachine · 17/03/2024 17:37

I've had FB since it started.
I refuse all friends requests, so I have no one at all on mine, I don't post any pictures including a profile pic, nor do I post any comments.
I use it just to follow groups that I'm interested in and that's it.
Whenever anyone has asked if I have FB, I just say no, I don't have it.
It's bliss.

It happened to MySpace (remember that?)

I was in a band when I was young and a few years ago something happened and MySpace lost millions of accounts. our recordings / gig videos and pictures were only on there and they're all lost 😢

Needmorelego · 17/03/2024 17:41

@teaandtoastwithmarmite so why do you follow that "one guy" if you aren't interested?
