So DS16 has just gone out with his friends and has a sleepover (aka party) tonight. His parting shot as he left was to ask us (DH and I) if we could tidy his room as he's a friend coming round tomorrow and doesn't want them to think he lives in a hovel !
I think I started laughing more when he told me it wouldn't take too long to do !!! Bless

Well lots of kids earn pocket money for doing chores so tell him you want some money first 😂

BeaLola · 16/03/2024 12:27

Good point - I may invoice him

I'd respond like I always do to my teen "oh um let me think about that................no" Grin

Scaffoldingisugly · 16/03/2024 12:32

He can tell his mate it's a grunge thing...

FarmGirl78 · 16/03/2024 13:59

Is he coming straight home with friend tomorrow? ie, he won't have chance to see it before he arrives back? I would tidy his room, make it spotless. But change his duvet and curtains for some pink floral affair that I have no doubt your local charity shop will have in stock. And put some fairy lights around his headboard, and tuck his favourite teddy bear under the duvet, head on pillow. He won't ask again.

VestibuleVirgin · 16/03/2024 17:13

He can tell his friend that he is trying to channel his inner Tracy Emin for an art project!

Brilliant! If you're feeling arty you could even make an 'I love my Mummy' poster for his wall.

PainterInPeril · 16/03/2024 18:01

@FarmGirl78 You are so naughty!🤣🤣 (But yes, OP, do pretty it up. Would be hilarious! 😂)

JMSA · 16/03/2024 18:04

With his baby photos all over the room Grin

mcmen05 · 16/03/2024 18:08

Is he bringing a girl back. I wouldn't embarrass him. I'd tidy it up if it was a girl but not if it's just lads hanging out.

BeaLola · 16/03/2024 21:08

Thank you all - am tempted by sone of these (well all really )

Yes it's a girl whose visiting tomorrow - "no not a girlfriend Mum but a girl whose a friend "- suffice to say as I dropped him in town he E under me to also remove his teddy bear from the room that obviously he expects me to tidy

Apologies - watching the rugby - he reminded me to remove the Teddy

I'm half expecting a text tomorrow morning reminding me ....

Why would you want to humiliate him like that?

Popfan · 16/03/2024 21:40

Do you know, if he's a good kid I'd do it. Why not make it nice for him for his friend to see? Yes he should have done it himself but sometimes it's nice to help them out. Doing nice things for our kids also fosters them doing good things themselves.

Because it’s funny, and obviously a joke and whoever he brings home will also realise his mum did it as a joke. No one will think he actually lives like that and he won’t be humiliated.
You clearly didn’t grow up with a a family who enjoyed the silly.

Tbh this would make my 24yr old laugh ( he’d probably quite like it )

pinkstripeycat · 16/03/2024 21:48

If I did that (floral curtains & teddy) to my DS16 he’d laugh and instantly realise why I’d done it. Taking the mick is how our family are; a house full of boys and an ex-squaddie (DH)

80skid · 16/03/2024 21:50

I would be dressing his room with cuddly toys and anything I could think of that would embarrass him 😂

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 16/03/2024 21:52

I'd tidy it. If he reminded you, it's obviously important to him.

Surely if it was important to him he would have tidied it himself?

Remember the bit at the beginning where it said "light-hearted"? Well, that.
