Posting here for traffic and because I’m impatient lol.

due soon and I know this is probably a bit of a dumb thing to think about but I’m wondering what clothes I’ll be able to wear for those first 6 weeks after having my baby. I’m not going for the most stylish fashion contest lol but more for comfort with a bit of style for those first trips out. I’ve heard people still wore some of their maternity clothes those first few weeks and to be honest I’ve lived in leggings most of this pregnancy and will do after. I know every woman is different and how everyone’s body reacts and goes back to normal or a new normal varies. I didn’t put on much weight this pregnancy so I’m hoping my shape will come back sooner and I’ve bought those belly wrap things to help recovery and my shape return. Hoping to do a lot of walks as the nicer weather returns so that should help recovery and getting my body back.

Whatever was cleanest.
Or pyjamas and dressing gown.

Bearbookagainandagain · 15/03/2024 14:55

Had a C-section: loose lounge pants mostly since spending a lot of time at home breastfeeding in the first few weeks, changed for leggings when going out.
Loose tops and comfy breastfeeding bras that are easy to use.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 15/03/2024 14:56

After my last two, I wore a lot of leggings and baggy T-shirts. I will be wearing the same when my DS is born in the next week. Whatever’s comfortable.

Anothnamechang · 15/03/2024 14:58

First two times I was pjs , second time I was leggings and hoodies but only cause I was walking and sitting in nicu and hated people seeing me in pjs 🤣🤣

Friendshipover5 · 15/03/2024 15:00

Pyjamas mostly. Or I stayed in my maternity jeans cause they were so comfy!

PoppingTomorrow · 15/03/2024 15:01

As above - c section so high waisted knickers and high waisted harem pants or my maternity leggings.

Long shapeless button down dress when I wanted to be smarter - for breastfeeding.

I bought a couple of cardigans as I thought they'd be easier but it was cOLD so I ended up pulling jumper up and best /tshirt down.

Lounge bras or my normal bra pulled down to feed (nursing bras were a Faff with my GGs.

Slip on or zip-up boots, because something easy to put on/off with no hands is helpful.

Hat/hood rather than brolly when wet.

scratchyscratchy · 15/03/2024 15:01

All DCs were late Spring / Summer Babies so on the days I actually got dressed I wore stretchy, slip summer dresses. Anything Breastfeeding friendly and that I could whip off in case of sick / poo accidents Grin

AnneLovesGilbert · 15/03/2024 15:03

Wide legged pjs as I had a catheter for a few weeks then pregnancy leggings and by about 6 weeks I was back in normal jeans. I had a c section but it healed quite quickly.

Hairspray123 · 15/03/2024 15:04

If you are breastfeeding, something you can do that in comfortably, vest top with some kind of jumper or shirt eg denim over and leggings. You will probably still be fairly pregnant for a while while your insides make their way back down and so nothing with a tighter waist band.

MyBigFatGreekSalad · 15/03/2024 15:07

Currently 3 weeks postpartum and I've been really struggling!

Because it needs to be breastfeeding friendly, cover my bum area because of the big pads 😂 and be lose to cover my tummy (nearly gone down now so it's getting easier!)

I've been wearing leggings with oversized jumpers/ sweatshirts

Midi dresses with a low cut so can breastfeed easily

Elastic waist wide leg trousers with cardigan to button down and feed.

PlatinumBlondeXo · 15/03/2024 15:08

Thanks so much for all the suggestions. I think I’ll still keep my maternity stuff for those first few weeks for comfort and I’ve plenty of black leggings that will come in handy. I plan to combo feed and If that goes well I’ll order some breastfeeding tops from Shein. I’ve plenty of pjs for those house days lol even though I plan to get outside at least once a day even just for a walk around the block for fresh air lol.

ditto with these but also added some shirts i could either do up or have undone over a vest or something, think linen shirt or denim shirt.

Tangled123 · 15/03/2024 15:16

I had a June baby, so mostly lived in maternity shorts or leggings/pyjamas if it got cold.

PrincessTeaSet · 15/03/2024 15:16

I still wore the maternity stuff for several weeks while I gradually lost weight. Then back into whatever stuff fitted first out of my other clothes. Breastfeeding restricted my wardrobe somewhat. I guess it was 3-6 months before I was back to my pre pregnancy size (more or less). My waist has not returned to previous so some things never fitted again (dresses mainly)

BarbieDangerous · 15/03/2024 15:18

Leggings leggings leggings

KnittedCardi · 15/03/2024 15:21

Summer babies, so just into flowy summer dresses. With second baby I was back to the school run within a week, so definitely back to normal for me!

Mushroo · 15/03/2024 15:22

A lot of leggings! I bought the massive M&S knickers and they were brilliant for going over the c section scar.

So my general attire was leggings and a big jumper (December baby). I also had a wrap dress for December occasions like new year.

I was back in jeans probably about 3 weeks post partum but appreciate I was probably not the norm with that.

I thought with breastfeeding I’d wear a lot of button down shirts, but I’ve actually found them more exposing that just large jumpers / t shirts.

Toottooot · 15/03/2024 15:23

Jammies or jeans and t shirts - normal clothes really.

oldgreysquirrel · 15/03/2024 15:26

I had a vaginal birth with no stitches. I wore leggings with oversized shirts for most of the first six weeks (I got a few from charity shops as I knew I wouldn't be in them for long) over 'secret support vests', which were both comfortable and easy to breastfeed in. After that time most of my normal clothes fit, but I didn't wear jeans much as I was spending a lot of time relaxing at home!

mightydolphin · 15/03/2024 15:28

I wore big, baggy sweaters, loose shirts with a vest top underneath for breastfeeding. I wore jeans with them - the ones that fit. I also wore jumper dresses with tights.

I'm still wearing the same three sets of jeans now at 5 months pp with a wide variety of tops that I'm gradually 'unlocking' as I lose weight. My more unforgiving size 8 jeans are a way off though. I was approx. 2 stone overweight after my baby mind you. I'm 1 stone 4 pounds away from my pre-baby weight at the moment.

Cas112 · 15/03/2024 15:33

If I absolutely HAD to get dressed them joggers but sized up so they was loose and oversized tees

ancienticecream · 15/03/2024 15:43

I wore my normal clothes. Trousers and shorts (summer baby), and jeans after a couple of weeks. Boxy t-shirts made it easier to breastfeed. I had a couple of specialist breastfeeding tops but tbh they were more trouble than they're worth.

I'll be doing it all over again soon :D

Nevermind31 · 15/03/2024 15:47

Breastfeeding tops and maternity leggings/ trousers.
it is unlikely that you will be able to fit into normal clothes straight after anyway.
It will come in time

Stickthatupyourdojo · 15/03/2024 15:49

I had my baby this time last year and I wore maternity leggings, breastfeeding friendly strappy tops that were long and a cardigan. Easy access to everything, didn't sit on my c section scar and comfy but presentable enough for visitors and appointments.

itsgettingweird · 15/03/2024 16:05

I had a c section. Also lived in a hot country. Plus had an august baby.

I continued to wear what I wore when pregnant.

Jersey skirts and cotton t shirts. Or bikini as swam a lot Grin
