No one to sign DD’s passport renewal!!

Trying to renew DD’s passport and we have no one to sign. I could ask my manager but she hasn’t known me for 2 years and I wouldn’t want to put her in that position to lie for us.

I have 2 friends both SAHM, DH doesn’t have anyone he can ask the person he did ask doesn’t have a passport.

What on earth do we do?

I have so many people I could ask at work as I’m a HR professional but I haven’t know them two years.

Teachers are still allowed to sign? I'm a teaching assistant and recently signed my friends 2 children's for her

That is your friend though, just because a child is in the class, they might not necessarily know the parent.

it is very difficult, the only who I would know to sign mine is DH's friend who is a retired teacher, I don't know anyone else suitable.

Teachers and GP’s not allowed to anymore

Teachers absolutely are! I work in a school where even the Head will do it if they’ve known the child long enough. The individual school may have a policy that says no though, but the teacher could still do it on a personal basis even then if they’ve known the child long enough.

For friends but not for students unless you have known their parents non professionally for more than two years.

Wrong! For students is fine too.

changeme4this · 16/03/2024 18:02

I asked our GP when DD was 3 months old. No one question why she didn’t know her for 2 years…. 😂

NonGardener · 16/03/2024 18:10

According to this site (HM GOV) teachers can countersign, with no restrictions mentioned. But a countersignature is not required for a renewal (unless for a child under 11).

See here: https://www.gov.uk/countersigning-passport-applications

and here: https://www.gov.uk/countersigning-passport-applications/accepted-occupations-for-countersignatories

Google is your friend! ;-)

OhItsOnlyCynthia · 16/03/2024 18:15

Does anyone know if teachers can countersign?

I’m a teacher and I’ve signed loads over the years. Did one on Monday!

DappledThings · 16/03/2024 17:06

I think it does. Are you thinking only of the sexual meaning?

Yeah I have no idea what random dictionary your are quoting there but believe me, “suggestive” as a standalone adjective “the list is suggestive” only means sexually suggestive.

you need “indicative” or “non-exclusive”.

I write legal and policy documents, which often refer to lists. I know what I’m talking about.

Yeah, fair enough. Indicative is definitely a far better word in the context. Suggestive has started to have the other meaning and is clearly understandable in this particular context. Although the idea of someone being turned on by a solemn list of professions is quite funny.

They could only sign if they have known the parent for 2 years

Helow
can anybody guide me through what I need to ask my children school for TA job in school as I am working far away that is costing me 1000 pounds!

marcopront · 16/03/2024 19:12

Wrong! For students is fine too.

How do you interpret this ?

"be able to identify you, for example they’re a friend, neighbour or colleague (not just someone who knows you professionally)"

changeme4this · 16/03/2024 18:02

Probably because they had read the regulations and knew it was you they had to have known for two years not the child.

Vinomummyinlockdown · 16/03/2024 19:50

Recently renewed passports for both my kids. One didn’t need countersign, one DID.

pollymere · 16/03/2024 19:56

I'm a teacher and I regularly do passports for people without problems. Officially I think it can be anyone in a "Professional" occupation bar relatives.

pollymere · 16/03/2024 20:01

I just had a look at the list! Chiropodist, Licencee at your local pub, an optician, a pharmacist, someone in the Post Office, someone who owns a Ltd company, anyone with Professional Qualifications (teacher comes under this) etc.

Here is the link to the list...https://www.gov.uk/countersigning-passport-applications/accepted-occupations-for-countersignatories

She must have known a teacher somewhere for 2 years? You must have friends you've known for 2 years, who know your daughter? Your daughter might have had friends for 2 years, whose parents have known your daughter and can sign? You might even have a dentist?

Roselilly36 · 15/03/2024 08:49

I don’t think you need to get it countersigned for a renewal OP. I renewed my sons passport recently so he now has a new adult passport (we were renewing child to first adult one) just uploaded new photo, all went through fine, had his new passport in 8 days.

I had to get both my kids renewals countersigned just a couple of years ago. And I’ve countersigned many in the last year for friends and their children who aren’t getting first passports and who are getting renewals.

Efrogwraig · 16/03/2024 21:07

Local cllr. Employee in local govt. Both can sign.

Secondaryappealhelp · 16/03/2024 21:17

I've recently renewed both my kids passports and they needed countersigning. I'm now envious of all those who have escaped it!

Viewsaremyown · 16/03/2024 21:35

Next door neighbour. Manager. Anyone you work with. I’m sure plenty of people will be willing to help you out. Don’t worry about the 2 year rule, they won’t follow up on that.

linsey2581 · 16/03/2024 21:48

Just get a family member to do it one that’s name doesn’t connect to yours though. I get my auntie to do my kids (the are 20 and 21 now but still) she signed my husbands too. I get my aunties partner to sign mine. It no longer has to be a professional person.

Passenger42 · 16/03/2024 21:52

I think your majorly over thinking this on the 2 year rule. Just ask your manager or a colleague at work, do you seriously think they will say no? Or promote your husband scaffolder mate to site manager on the form, as long as he has a passport it will go through.
