To think most make up is a waste of time?

I've never been a girly girl, never seen the point of tanning, nails, fashionable clothes, makeup etc. I do wear makeup on occasion, but it takes me 5 minutes to apply- some powder, a little mascara and maybe some lip tint.

I used to use more makeup to cover blemishes when a teenager.

But I know so many women who spend hours a week on their face. The time, the effort and the expense seems to be immense. I just don't get it. Why spend so long applying expensive paint to your face? Why not just look how you look? Men don't go through all this nonsense and somehow we are able to stand to look at their bare faces.

I know some people are going to say makeup is their hobby, they enjoy it, fine. I'm more addressing those who feel they have to put it on before leaving the house every day.

Help me to understand!

I am probably pretty close to the definition of a girly girl. I wear a full face of makeup if I'm leaving the house, get my hair done and have my nails done, I also like more feminine clothes and shoes. The only thing I've never done is tan.

I do it because I like it. I enjoy doing it, I like how it makes me feel, I enjoy the time I spend in the hairdressers and the nail salon. Often my appearance sparks conversation (I dress quite brightly) and I find it an easy way to connect with people.

I also totally understand why people don't like it and that's fine, different strokes for different folks. It may feel like a waste of time to some people, but I'm sure there are things other people do that feel like a waste of time to me.

This is exactly how I feel. I don't have my nails done because they don't grow so I just keep them short but I do tan. I like to look groomed. I like to have nice hair. I've been single for 10 years so I'm not doing it for anybody but me. Also I'm an older mum and prefer not to look like his nanna 🤷🏻‍♀️. I just like to look nice. I don't care what any gosh thinks about that.

Any gosh 🤣. Anybody that should have said!

Couldn't agree more but I'm sure you'll get lots of aggro. How dare you not wear makeup? You'll look old, unattractive, unprofessional etcetcetc.

Personally I would take all those over a red, itchy, inflamed eczematous face, which is what I'd get with makeup. Plus life's too short.

I don't enjoy doing my hair or makeup but I look like shit when I don't. I wish I was one of those women that enjoyed it, practised, and spent hours doing it. I think women that use makeup to highlight their beauty look wonderful.

Yep I'm the same OP!

For work days I do wear mascara and a tiny bit of blusher, out of habit really because I started wearing it when I was about 17 yrs old and never stopped really. But I just can't be bothered with anything more than that. Outside of work I'm bothering less and less to even do mascara.

For me the biggest waste of time is nails. I can't imagine sitting there for half an hour while someone paints my nails! What for?! I see so many women with long polished nails (gel fakes I guess).

Nails, I am a complete slob

One layer of undercoat, two layers and paint over the edges of my skin a bit (weird I know) two layers.
Looks crap for a day, but when all the bits on the skin flake off the manicure bit looks good (not salon good but I'll have saved 30 quid or however much these days) and lasts longer.

As for rest of makeup, it feels like I have a few minutes of meditation, even if I just smooth cream on and no other makeup

Re getting nails done. I was in a shop yesterday where the girl had to fill in the order on a keyboard. She had massively long, painted nails - so long that she could barely type.
Ridiculous 😄

I always wonder how one wipes their ass effectively with such nails 😁
